t h e p e r i o d a f t e r the construction of the fortress and before that, when the city became a hub for the railway mainline, the population heavily increased in Boden with people from all over Sweden, who came to serve in the Swedish army, at the garrison hospital or by the railway. This mix of Swedish culture became a breeding ground for the cultural life that we can enjoy today with art, music, revue, theater, film and not least the literary legacy of proletarian writer and Nobel Prize winner; Eyvind Johnson.

Havremagasinet is today one of the largest art galleries in Sweden. Here exhibitions of local cultural roots are displayed, along with Nordic and international contemporary art that deals with current themes. This summer there is the international art exhibition ”You like me.” Through the works of contemporary artists of different origins, some with roots in indigenous communities worldwide, the exhibition examines how we are intertwined with one another, in solidarity, happiness, sadness, hopes, illusions, curiosity and fear. The works are presented in the form of video, installations, photography, paintings and more. A melting pot of different expressions. Parallel to this exhibition,

Havremagasinet takes a new grip on the Boden School in the exhibition ”Pendang”. Here they invite four contemporary artists, active in Norrbotten, who they think are linked to four of the artists from the Boden School. Boden School is the name of the loose grouping of 14 artists in Boden, who in the 50s and 60s, organized courses, painting travels and exhibitions together. By bringing together one of the Boden School artists with a contemporary artist, they want to lift the view of the beholder. When art of these eight artists set in a historical and contemporary perspective, what can you see in each artist’s expression – by mirroring it in another artist’s work? www.havremagasinet.se
