The panel discussion entitled “Conversations on Anthropology and
Sociology: Divergences and Intersections,” was held on July 16, 2021 and
served as the kick-off event of the year-long commemoration. This event
provided a forum for sociologists, anthropologists, and other scholars to
reflect on the achievements, struggles, and evolution of the two disciplines as
well as to discuss possible directions in the coming years.
Invited to the forum are prominent sociologists and an anthropologist who
studied and eventually taught at said departments: Professor Emeritus Randolf
S. David, Prof. Belen Tan-Gatue Medina, and Prof. Mary Racelis. During
the forum, these scholars highlighted how both anthropology and sociology
in UP have significantly changed from the 1950s and 1960s to the present.
