UpaDowna's mission is to provide access to outdoor adventures for all through programs and events that empower individuals, create healthier communities, and foster a respect for the environment. Drawing on the three main "peaks" of our mission: empowering individuals, creating healthier communities, and fostering a respect for the environment, we will shift our focus to making sure any activity we do is directly serving our mission under one of the "peaks". Since limiting our "programs" to 6 activities (hike, bike, camp, climb, SUP, speaker series) this limits our ability to offer different ways to engage the community in the outdoors. It also doesn't create a space for our important cleanups and other community-minded events and fundraisers. By creating 3 "buckets" of programs, we are able to fill each bucket as we see fit, or as time, money, and resources allow.

SUMMIT SERIES

What: The "Summit Series" focuses on empowering individuals. Consisting of a series of activities and classes that focus on an individual skill or sport. The Summit Series activities allow growth for individuals by increasing one's knowledge and skills with a "series" of classes that build upon a base.

Goals: -Helping participants try a new lifetime activity -to create a safe and fun environment to step out of one's comfort zone -to help individuals overcome a fear, apprehension, or questions about an activity -to empower individuals to "reach a peak" that they have identified as a barrier or goal ie: transportation to an activity, adaptive adventures, scholarships to camps, entry fees to races, etc. Activities Include: -Paddleboarding (currently a program) -Climbing (currently a program) -Camping (currently a program) Could also include 3rd Saturday Adventure (currently a program) and activities such as fishing, archery, snow sports, adaptive adventures.

community campfire

What: "Community Campfire" creates an atmosphere in the outdoors that is fun, friendly, open to all, and is centered around a group activity. This program promotes gathering of a community around a common goal, topic, or adventure that is done together. Networking, social engagement, support, and interaction is encouraged. Goals: -create a comfortable environment for participants to learn together -spark motivation to stay active together -learn from one another -build community Activities Include: -Cycling (currently a program) -Hiking (currently a program) -Speaker Series (currently a program) Could also include 101 classes, nature therapy, and neighborhood specific activities.

environment essentials What: "Environment Essentials" is focused on taking care of what we use. By incorporating our trail and park cleanups into this program, we provide a connection from outdoor activity to environmental stewardship. Adopting principles like Leave No Trace, and SHIFT, we'll help each individual that participates in this program to understand their connection to nature and the importance of taking care of what we have. Goals: -provide community service opportunities -teach responsible recreation -environmental stewardship -provide environmentally friendly tips and tricks. Activities Include: -trail clean ups -park clean ups Could also include Leave No Trace, trail etiquette, and hiking-with-dog classes.
