ANNUAL REPORT 2016

Our mission.... ...is to provide access to outdoor adventures for all through events and programs that empower individuals, create healthier communities, and foster a respect for the environment.

SUCCESS STORIES "UpaDowna has been really pivotal for me as a single mother, my oldest child has autism and that's something that has always been a challenge. There were times where I didn't feel safe or even comfortable going to the grocery store and you guys (UpaDowna) were so accepting and welcoming of us, even though we're always last and always at the end. I always thought that the UpaDowna events were a safe place for us to be." -Sarah K. talking about Pedal Party "My first UpaDowna event was the Climb Night and it was right around the time I ended up losing my job, my girlfriend moved back to St. Louis and everything kind of fell apart all at once. Then UpaDowna was there and man, it got me outdoors all the time. I started doing a bunch of 14ers and climbing more often, it definitely made my sanity more stable!" -Brandyn C. talking about Climb Night

"I found this organization through Facebook and this is the first time ever in life that I've been on the water. No swimming, no kayaking, no water skiing, nothing. I've come to UpaDowna SUP today and just killed it! They've been supportive and so much fun! That fear of the water has gone away and I LOVE it!" -Latrice P. Talking about Stand Up Paddleboard

SPECIAL EVENTS 2016 was the third year of our active fundraiser called "ROAR in the City- Really Outrageous Adventure Race". This event encourages teams of all ages and abilities to explore Downtown Colorado Springs by foot or by bike while competing in various activities of brawn and brains! Many teams find creative ways to travel from each destination by utilizing the local trails known as the "Legacy Loop". This event promotes teamwork, creative thinking, active cooperation, miles of walking, running, and riding as well as a fun celebration with all teams afterward. Funds raised from this event support our 6 programs. ROAR is a fun way to see the city, be active, and support a great nonprofit! More info at upadowna.org/roar

The Folk'n'Flannel had its inaugural year in 2016. In response to a request to host a "gala fundraiser", we decided to provide an event that truly portrays our mission, vision, and vibe! Taking place in the beautiful mountains of Deckers, Colorado, this overnight camping experience included a catered dinner, live folk music, yard games, dancing, s'mores, and a wide variety of outdoor adventure activities for participants to choose from the next day. This all ages, family friendly event is affordable and provided a great "Bang for your Buck"! Ending up in the positive for the first year, funds raised helped to sustain our mission. STEWARDSHIP Starting in 2015, UpaDowna adopted a portion of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail in which we clean up not only the path, but portions of the waterway as well. The section we adopted is a trail we use frequently and one of the most notoriously trashed trails along the creek. It runs south of America the Beautiful Park to S. Tejon St. In 2016, over 125 volunteers gathered 200+ bags of trash and removed over 6,000lbs of bagged trash, large dumped items, and more. Many groups have come out to help including youth, businesses, and military groups!

BOARD & STAFF Board members decide how UpaDowna allocates its funds, which programs are funded and when. Our all volunteer board is made up of a diverse cross section of business professionals in Colorado Springs and has a 100% donation rate. Our staff consists of one full time employee, one full time volunteer, and three hourly employees. Staff Members: Board Members: Dana Adoretti- Board Chair John Ferris Melissa Archibald Steve Ogle
