"We have hired a number of Exeter students into our industrial placement roles this year and the quality has been outstanding With a reputation for being one of the best Universities in the UK for Business Students, this is also reflected in the services offered by the Careers Team."

Harriette Gwilt, University Recruitment Graduate, Johnson & Johnson

Placements explained

"The quality of students from Exeter University has been consistently high, and we have enjoyed working with each and every student who has been placed with us. Often students have been able to come back to us following graduation, making the placement system an excellent method for seeking talent."

A placement is work or a project that is undertaken as part of a creditbearing module. They are usually paid, we would encourage this if possible but can be unpaid, unlike internships which must be paid at least the National Minimum Wage There is no one size fits all placement, in general they need to be something that builds on the skills and experiences of the student and helps them prepare for the graduate jobs market We would be happy to talk to you to discuss whether an opportunity you have could be offered as a placement.

Placements Process

The process is very similar to the one you would follow for any other job i e create the opportunity, advertise it, choose the best candidate, and offer the role. The key difference is that we will need to issue some paperwork (this is straightforward) to you to sign and agree once you have offered and the student has accepted the opportunity The student is likely to use the experience of their placement to write their end of module assignment, if you are concerned about any confidential information being used, please contact us and we can agree a nondisclosure agreement

Placement Support

Our dedicated Placements Team can offer support and advice across a number of different areas including, but not limited to, developing your placement opportunity, advertising, selecting the best candidate, contracts, onboarding, and support whilst the student is on placement We have also developed a range of placement information and guides which can be accessed by visiting the link below.
