Under the general supervision of the Regional Director (RD), Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (OMP), the Programme Officer will be responsible for the following key duties:
Prepare briefing materials for RD´s use on official trips or special meetings; Share meeting results, including analysis of opportunities from RD missions and follow-up; Identify and extract information from various sources and prepare briefing notes and/or resume for inclusion in correspondence and reports; Work with Heads of Units in the Regional Bureau (RB) to coordinate actions and produce information; Summarize and systematize information coming from the Executive Board sessions, focusing on regional priorities, and identify follow-up activities and/or implications for the RB and Country Offices; Participate in missions, international meetings, conferences, inter-agency meetings and donor visits; Prepare and update briefing notes for the Executive Director/Deputy Executive Director/Assistant Executive Director on country and region specific matters; Prepare statements and presentations for RD and the Deputy RD; Analyze and keep current on activities, political and social events of UN and other multilateral bodies/governments that may impact on WFP activities and programmes; Participate in task forces, working groups and other meetings to provide feedback to the RD; Coordinate and expedite office wide responses to sensitive telephone and written enquires on behalf of the RD; Prepare informal translations and may act as interpreter; Function as a Performance and Risk Management Champion (PARC), including undertaking the RB annual performance planning and review, and risk management processes; Act as gender focal point for OMP ensuring compliance with corporate, gender policy and lead the implementation of OMP’s gender strategy; Perform other related duties as required. 1
