FINANCIAL AID UNO’s premier graduate education is offered at the most affordable tuition rates in the region and provides a multitude of funding opportunities for graduate students to help finance their education.

FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form the U.S. Department of Education requires to determine your financial aid eligibility. Students with financial need may be eligible for loans or work-study funding. The form is available starting October 1.

Graduate Assistantships are intended to reward students who have demonstrated high academic performance and potential at the graduate level. Graduate Assistants, or “GAs,” work 20 hours each week and carry a minimum of six graduate credit hours each semester. In addition to tuition remission, GAs receive a monthly stipend and are eligible for medical benefits.

[

The duties of a GA could be teaching; instructing and supervising undergraduate level labs; grading or evaluating performance of undergraduate students; collecting and processing research data for faculty; or preparing presentation materials.

TUITION-REDUCTION PROGRAMS Metropolitan Advantage Program The Metropolitan Advantage Program (MAP) offers residents or high school graduates of 11 Iowa counties the opportunity to attend UNO graduate programs at significantly reduced tuition rates that are lower than or competitive with four-year institutions in Iowa. Counties include Cass, Crawford, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Shelby, and Woodbury. Eligible UNO graduate students who are Iowa residents will pay 150 percent of resident tuition. The UNO reduced tuition is close to the rates charged by the University of Iowa, Iowa State, and the University of Northern Iowa.

INVOLVEMENT

UNO has been a part of the Omaha community for 110 years, which means we’ve had over a century to create traditions and keep the Maverick Momentum rolling! Go beyond the classroom and experience life alongside your fellow Mavericks.

DIVISION I ATHLETICS UNO’s student-athletes are successfully competing at the highest level in collegiate sports in Division I athletics. We hold membership in two athletic conferences: the National Collegiate Hockey Conference and the Summit League. With the 7,500-seat Baxter Arena and a state-of-the-art soccer pitch (field), the profile of UNO Athletics is rising both in prominence and as a point of pride for UNO, as well as the Omaha community.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Community engagement and service are fundamental components of UNO’s identity. This commitment to engagement is reflected in our academics, students, partnerships, and institutional framework. The Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), the first facility of its kind in the United States, opened in April 2014 to partner UNO resources with community needs. It is a unique space that serves to strengthen UNO’s existing outreach efforts and foster future opportunities for partnerships between UNO students, faculty, staff, and nonprofit or governmental organizations.

Service Learning The Service Learning Academy (SLA) combines academics and civic engagement to enhance student learning, advance community development, and foster engaged citizenship. Projects serve the community and create valuable learning experiences for students who apply their knowledge to real-life situations in the community.

MAVERICK PRODUCTIONS Maverick Productions (MavPro) is the official student programming board of UNO. This organization is comprised of approximately 30 dedicated students from all majors, backgrounds, and classifications. MavPro strives to provide activities that are social, educational, entertaining, and recreational for all students. Concerts, comedians, free food, giveaways, interactive and late-night events are just some of what MavPro offers UNO students.
