The Office of General Education and Dual Enrollment cannot express enough our gratitude to you for supporting your students’ search for rigorous academic opportunities and avenues to succeed in and out of the classroom. Your dedication to their success is what makes our partnership so strong and the education they receive so invaluable.

Over the past year, there has been change on all fronts. Some of you welcomed new instructors in your hallways, and wished farewell to others. Some seized the opportunity to lead a new course for your students to be challenged in, and others pressed on looking for innovative ways to deliver content. We hope you have enjoyed the past academic year with us as much as we have with you in your schools and with your students.

NEW ADDITION TO THE TEAM In March we added a new team member, Andy Soper. Andy joins our staff as the new Dual Enrollment Counselor. Originally from Estherville, IA, he now resides in Omaha with his wife Erin (UNO alumna) and their four year old daughter, Anna. Andy earned his bachelor’s degree in business from Buena Vista University (BVU) and also played on the golf team. After graduating from BVU, he worked at Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the Admissions office and was the head golf coach. He also completed his master’s degree in education from Iowa State University while working at ILCC. In 2016, Andy and his family moved to Omaha where he worked at Midland University in the admissions office and managed the dual enrollment program. Andy loves to play golf (since the age of 3), cook, and DIY projects with his wife. Andy and Erin are expecting their second child in June. Andy brings a wealth of higher education and dual enrollment experience to our office. We are excited to have him as a member of our team and you will be seeing him in your schools this fall. Welcome Andy!

REMINDERS, UPDATES, AND NEW FOR 2020-2021 SUPPORTING OUR PARTNERS

TRANSCRIPT REQUEST

UNO is proud of our dual enrollment partners and is pleased to support their efforts to deliver high quality courses that provide exceptional experiences and opportunities for students. Each year, UNO disburses over half of all dual enrollment revenue directly back to partnering high schools, faculty, and students. These funds support classroom improvements, enrichment activities, pay tuition for discipline specific graduate courses for teachers, and offset costs of Advanced Placement exams for students and their families. We look forward to building on this momentum in 2020-2021 to continue supporting our dual enrollment teachers and their students.

Ordering transcripts online through MavLINK is the fastest way to get transcripts processed. To order transcripts online:

DUAL ENROLLMENT ACADEMIC ADVISING (PILOT PROGRAM) In order to assist high school students with selecting and enrolling in courses that maximize their time and talents, our office will pilot academic advising to students who meet the eligibility requirements. If your school is interested in learning more about how to best prepare and inform students about their post-secondary course options, contact us at unodualenroll@unomaha.edu.

SYLLABUS Please continue to review and update your course syllabus to reflect what is being taught in your course as it aligns with the respective UNO Academic Department. If you need assistance with the template, organizing content, or have any questions about your course syllabus, please contact our office as soon as possible.

VIDGRID As a Dual Enrollment instructor you have access to all the technologies at UNO. One of those technologies is VidGrid. You can record your lectures, show demonstrations and send them to all of your students. CANVAS Did you know there is a Learning Management System (LMS) set up for you and your colleagues? That’s right, when you log into Canvas, you are a part of a “class” of your peer educators! You can distribute course materials, collaborate on topics, seek input, and share experiences. There is so much you can do with Canvas, especially with your peers.

1. Log into MavLINK using your assigned NUID and password received when enrolled into the Dual Enrollment Program.

If you do not know your NUID or password for logging into MavLINK, visit trueyou.nebraska.edu and navigate to Manage Your Accounts.

A paper transcript request form is available at dualenroll.unomaha.edu under Documents and Resources.

Cost; There is a $3 charge per transcript for students who are enrolled for the current semester at UNO. There is a $15 charge per transcript for former students and those not currently enrolled at UNO.

REMINDERS, UPDATES, AND NEW FOR 2020-2021 CONTD. FAMILY INFORMATION SESSIONS Family Information Sessions for future and current dual enrollment students and their families will be held at several Omaha area high schools. During these sessions, there will be a presentation about dual enrollment, followed by a Q&A session.

We are continuing to work with our school partners to plan Family Information Sessions for students and parents interested in learning more about UNO Dual Enrollment. If you are interested in having a UNO Dual Enrollment representative visit your school to talk with families, please email our office at unodualenroll@unomaha.edu. We will update the UNO Dual Enrollment Events page as visit dates are confirmed.

As we move forward with summer planning and some uncertainties about the fall, we have been exploring different avenues to make sure we can present the information in the best way to students and their families. Some of these options would be holding Zoom meeting townhalls for parents. This could be held during the day or in the evening. The other options would be presenting to students with a recording or a live session; we are flexible with working with each school to meet the needs of the students.

SCHOOL VISITS Stay up-to-date on visit dates, deadlines, and withdraw dates for the upcoming year. As we confirm visits to partnered schools, we will update our High School Visits page.
