IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATES IN NEVADA The death toll from COVID-19 in Nevada rose on more to 113 on Sunday afternoon. As of 2 p.m., there were 2,836 cases reported in the state .With 461 known positive cases in Washoe County, the Northern Nevada area reported 12 total deaths, 61 recoveries, 388 active cases, 30 people currently hospitalized and 28 people who have been released from the hospital.Clark County reported 2,324 cases on Sunday afternoon and 100 deaths. On Sunday, the county released a number of those who have recovered: 1,028 or 44.23%. #StayHomeForNevada; https://www.unlv.edu/coronavirus
COMFORT FOOD- THE BEST BROWNIE RECIPE EVER: Ingredients:
½
cup + 2 tablespoons salted butter melted
1 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ cup melted milk chocolate chips ¾ cup all-purpose flour ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup milk chocolate chips
Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a metal 9x9 pan with parchment paper. 2. Pour melted butter into a large mixing bowl. Whisk in sugar by hand until smooth, 30 seconds. 3. Add in eggs and vanilla extract. Whisk 1 minute. 4. Whisk in melted chocolate until combined and smooth. 5. Use a rubber spatula to stir in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until just combined. Stir in whole chocolate chips. 6. Pour into prepared pan and smooth out. 7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let cool in pan 30 minutes before slicing.

The third annual recipient is Judge Jacqueline Bluth. Judge Bluth is a William S. Boyd School of Law alumna. After graduating in 2007, she began her legal career at the Clark County District Attorney’s office. Before long, her exceptional trial advocacy skills earned her a promotion to the Special Victims Unit. In the years that followed, she worked tirelessly to bring justice to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and, upon receiving another hardearned promotion to the murder team, victims of homicide. Judge Bluth was appointed to the bench in 2019. She is one of the youngest judges to be appointed to the Eighth Judicial District Court. Even as a district court judge, she finds time to mentor students, participate in Boyd’s in-house student competitions, and volunteers within the Nevada community. Judge Bluth has truly blazed a trail in the Nevada criminal justice system. From Boyd to the Nevada bench in just twelve years, she stands as proof that Boyd graduates can excel in law—and her career has only just begun. Congratulations Judge Bluth!
Each year, the Society of Advocates gives the Franny Forsman Award for Excellence in Advocacy to a graduating student who is an outstanding advocate at Boyd. The recipient is a member of the Society of Advocates who exemplifies outstanding performance in their competitions, is dedicated to the Society of Advocates, and is committed to helping other students with their advocacy skills. This year’s recipient is Zach Meyer. Zach is one of this year’s Vice Presidents on SOA and a member of both the moot court and mock trial teams. In mock trial, Zach was a quarterfinalist at the 2020 National Trial Competition. And last year in moot court, Zach advanced to the quarter-finals of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition. Zach has shown a dedication to the team and to students by consistently helping Boyd students, both as a Teaching Assistant and a mentor. Congratulations Zach!
This year, the Society of Advocates is giving a new award, the Robert Eglet Outstanding Advocate Award, to a graduating member of the mock trial team who has shown competitive success in mock trial and dedication to the team. The first ever recipient of the award is Mary Huggins. Mary is this year’s Mock Trial Chair on SOA and a member of the mock trial team. As one of the first members to qualify for the team, Mary has shown dedication to building the program and mentoring new members of the team. During her time at Boyd, Mary was a quarterfinalist at the National Trial Competition and took second place at Boyd’s NJA Trial Advocacy Competition her 1L year. Mary also competed on the national BLSA Mock Trial team and coached the national qualifying BLSA team the next year. Congratulations Mary!
