01Introduction

Project Brief Design Overview

Project Brief

Traditional art and digital art have always been connected to one another. Skills used in one area can be transferred and used in the other. Despite their interconnectedness, no physical public space has provided a community for artists to hone both disciplines at the same time.

Pixional was created to change this. We aim to blend together the worlds of traditional and digital art by acting as a social hub for artists to exchange skills while having access to equipment that will aid in their success. This includes selling art supplies for both traditional and digital artists.

Our target audience is rather wide, as we want to appeal to artists of all ages who are willing to learn and want to participate in a physical community. We believe that art should be accessible, despite age or circumstance.

4

Design Overview

Pixional’s brand identity represents a mixture of digital and traditional. This can be seen immediately with our company name. It is a combination of “pixel” and “traditional,” and relates to the bigger idea of art by sounding similar to the word “pictional.”

The same reasoning can be applied to our color scheme and type face choices. The red and blue represent the two worlds, while the purple shows how they have mixed in our establishment. We have used two typefaces, a sans serif and a script, to also show how the worlds look different, but in reality, they intermingle in a single entity.

Color Palettes

The color palette we chose for Pixional consists of a red, purple, and blue. Each color carries meaning.

Many traditional art supply stores use red for their logos. Because of this, we decided to choose red as a stand in for traditional art.

The color blue is oftentimes associated with the idea of technology and cyberspace. Because of that, we felt it was the perfect color to represent digital art.

RGB: 24 83 102

CMYK: 0 83 49 0 #F05365

When one mixes blue and red, they get purple. Because we wanted to build a brand that encourages the mixing of traditional and digital, we felt purple perfectly showed how the two art forms mix together to create a holistic view on art.

Typefaces

Leelawadee and Georgia were used for our products. Leelawadee was a sans serif that matched Josefin Sans well and helped make the body copy feel full. Georgia was used for headers to compensate for Leelawadee’s limited family and provided a nice serif contrast.

Logo Description

“PIX” is taken from “pixel” and is written in a sans serif font to show digital geometric perfection. The capitilzation and heavier line weight is meant to help with pronounciation.

“Ional” is taken from “traditional.” It is written in script to appear more handwritten. The lowercase letters and varied line weight is meant to help with pronounciation.

The symbol is a stylized link symbol, which is also resembles two paperclips intersecting. In this case, a palette and mouse intersect to show the intersection of traditional and digital art.

The mouse icon was chosen because of its association to computers. It is colored blue to showcase the digital world. The line weight is consistant to mirror the “PIX” part of the logo, which is stable and thick.

Palettes are common icons for painting. It is red since it’s associated with traditional art. The line weight varies and has more of an organic shape to match the typeface used for “ional” in the logo.

The three colors on the palette represent the color scheme of Pixional.
