FOUNDATIONS OF WEB DESIGN + DEVELOPMENT

LIGHTROOM BASICS WORKSHOP Adobe Lightroom is a software solution for both amateur and professional photographers that provides useful tools for digital imaging tasks. Lightroom helps photographers work faster and more efficiently with one image, a set of images or a large image library. Lightroom allows you to organize images and quickly make adjustments. In this overview, learn the basics of how to import images and sort them for organization and efficiency and understand some of the editing tools available.

This course offers an overview of the tools and languages available to creative designers who seek to use the web as their medium of choice. Discussions, readings, explanations and a handson approach allow you to explore the web as a creative outlet for both designers and developers. Learn the roles of various web scripting languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In addition, explore the importance of social media, web-based content management systems, multiplatform design and current development best practices. This course culminates with the design of a simple website to be used as a reference for future work.

This course takes you beyond the client side and technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript and introduces server-side concepts and technologies. Learn to use the Apache web server, the MySQL relational database and the PHP scripting language to create a simple database-driven web application. Programming concepts will be explored using PHP. You will design and create your own database, as well as learn basic Structured Query Language (SQL). Prerequisite: Introduction to Programming or equivalent experience.

FUNDAMENTALS OF DIGITAL OPERATIONS + PROJECT MANAGEMENT Are you freelancing, starting a design services-based business, or looking to become a member of an existing design and development team? This course on digital agency operations, business development and project management offers a comprehensive guide to the potential and pitfalls inherent in web-based projects. All aspects of digital agency operations are examined, from finding the right clients and negotiating the best price for your services, to contract writing basics and effectively scheduling and managing your workflow. Perform the steps an operations industry professional follows in planning, running, tracking and completing projects. By the end of this course you will be able to scope potential web-based work, create project tasks and identify and confirm user requirements, including interviewing techniques, and present solutions to common web-based project problems. Prerequisite: Web Design I or Overview of Social Media or equivalent experience.
