GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends of the University of St. Francis,

Anne and I welcome you to tonight’s 2024 Caritas Scholarship Celebration. It brings us great joy to gather once again in-person, on-campus, and surrounded by friends both old and new.

It is because of the generosity you show at Caritas each year that our students are able to become the servant leaders of tomorrow. This evening is not only about the power of scholarship support but also about student success and the talented, hard-working students who are a testament to the value of a USF education.

A sincere thank you to our St. Francis-level presenting sponsor, D’Arcy Buick GMC, and Caritas Committee members Sue and Terry D’Arcy. Thanks, also, to Wintrust Financial for their continued leadership and support, and to all our other generous sponsors. Your contributions enable the University of St. Francis to provide a highquality, Franciscan-inspired college education that remains accessible to all of our students. We are deeply grateful for your support, including the efforts of our dedicated Caritas Committee who have made tonight’s event possible.

As we come together this evening, please take a moment to revel in the significance of your support in shaping our Franciscan future. Together, as we embark on our second century, your continued dedication ensures the realization of our shared vision and a shared tomorrow.

GREETINGS FROM STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Good Evening,

I want to start off by saying thank you. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come and support our university at this year’s Caritas Scholarship Celebration. It is with great and extraordinary pleasure that we gather here to highlight USF and all those who make it an immeasurably unique and successful university. Thank you for your unwavering support!

I am a senior here at USF, and the one thing I have learned throughout my tenure is that I definitely made the correct decision coming here. St. Francis has been a joy from start to finish. I really grew into my own skin while attending USF. It gave me numerous opportunities to be involved and come into my own as a student and as a student leader. The USF community is close-knit and truly knows no bounds. I always feel comfortable and welcome here and have fostered relationships with friends, professors, and mentors that will last a lifetime.

I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to this university and the scholarships which, created through Caritas, have allowed me to continue to study here and pursue my passions of science and student leadership. I know that this is a sentiment shared across the entire student body. Our education here will surely carry us forward into the next chapter of our lives as compassionate, respectful leaders, with an emphasis on upholding our integrity.

I know that I am not alone in my gratitude. Once again, on behalf of the USF student body and I, thank you for your support!

LIVE AUCTION

MEET THE AUCTIONEER

LARRY LITTLE

Illinois Charity Auctions (ICA) has been in the nonprofit and fundraising industry for over 20 years. Since opening its doors, ICA has developed a true passion for fundraising. While passion for the industry has played a large part in each ICA team member’s career choices, passion for helping others is, by far, the driving force. This overwhelming desire to help others led to the creation of ICA.

Larry Little, tonight’s auctioneer, has been helping charities hold benefit auctions for 15 years and holds the designation of Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS), a professional designation from the National Auctioneers Association. It signifies that an auctioneer has trained with leaders in the field of fundraising auctions, and has himself made a commitment to the industry.

Larry’s success in the charity benefit community is enhanced because of his deep commitment to charitable ventures. Twenty-five years ago, he founded Guardian Angel Basset Rescue, an organization that is one of the leading animal rescue groups in the Midwest.

Tonight, Larry also brings with him two other extraordinary auctioneers who will be helping with the auction... welcome to Stan Knudson and Erik Wilkinson!

20

LIVE AUCTION BIDS

To bid, raise your paddle, making sure the number is visible to the auctioneer. Spotters will assist the auctioneer in noting your bid. Use only the paddle number assigned to you.

The highest bidder of any item, as acknowledged by the auctioneer, will be the purchaser. Questions of priority and procedure will be decided by the auctioneer, whose decision will be final and binding. In the event of a dispute between bidders, the auctioneer will have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer the item in dispute. Upon auctioneer’s indication of “SOLD,” title to the item will pass to the highest bidder who thereupon assumes full risk and responsibility. By his/her purchase, the bidder waives any claim for liability against both the University of St. Francis and the donor of the property or service. All items are sold “AS IS”. Dollar values included in any item description are estimates provided by the donor and are not warranted by the Caritas Committee or the University of St. Francis for tax purposes or market value.

PAYMENT

• Payment for live and silent auction items must be made in full by midnight the night of the Caritas Scholarship Celebration.

• Winning bidders must pay in full for items by personal check, cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover.

• Checks should be made payable to the University of St. Francis.

• Upon payment, the winner will be directed to the appropriate location to claim the item. Gift certificates and trip information will be available at this time.

• All auction items must be removed or arrangements made for removal by midnight on April 13, 2024.

• You will be asked to sign for your items and will be offered an emailed receipt at checkout.

PADDLE RAISE

In celebration of over 100 years of providing quality education to deserving students of the University of St. Francis, you will have the opportunity during the live auction to raise your paddle and join others in supporting student scholarships. Each year, the University of St. Francis provides more than $23 million in institutional funds to help students make the dream of a college education come true. You may designate a scholarship to support or allow your funds to go where the need is greatest. All proceeds from tonight’s Caritas Scholarship Celebration will directly benefit student scholarship programs at USF. Everyone goes home a winner. Donations are 100% tax deductible.

MESSAGES FROM GRATEFUL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

ADAN CRUZ

SOPHOMORE FINANCE MAJOR & USF SOCCER PLAYER

“Why did I choose St. Francis? I am asked this question constantly when giving tours as a Saints Ambassador. I could give so many reasons, but one of them is what makes this school so special, and it is the people. From the moment I walked into the Welcome Center, I was greeted with such positivity! The environment here is made for you to be able to succeed. With the blessings that are the scholarships that I have received, I have been able to further my education by pursuing a degree in business. To be able to play the sport that I love while being able to receive a scholarship truly is a dream come true for me. I had other offers to play soccer, but as soon as I visited St. Francis I knew it was where I wanted to play. Being a part of University Ministry means I can assist students who may need someone to talk to and it does always have to pertain to religion. It may simply just be me and whoever talking and allowing them to express themselves and feel heard. I thank God for guiding me on this path that I am currently journeying through. That is why I want to give you, the donors, a big thank you for making my dreams a reality. It has been through your donations and bountifulness that students like me can carve out a future for themselves! Thank you and may God bless you in your work and everything you do!”

EMILY EAGAN

JUNIOR SOCIAL WORK MAJOR

“Currently, I am a junior at the University of St. Francis in the Social Work bachelors’ program. During a difficult point in high school, my school social worker provided me with authentic kindness and the support necessary for me to graduate. That experience provided me with the motivation and desire to do the same for others by becoming a Social Work major. This year alone, I have been blessed to be very involved on campus in University Ministry, Student Goverment, and as a student worker in the Advancement Office. Additionally I am a manager for our football team. I could never have dreamed to be so active in college without the backing of such kind and wonderful individuals like you.”

“Attending the University of St. Francis has been a pivotal phase in my life. Through my education at USF, I have been able to partake in immense opportunities that have not only aided in my educational development but my personal evolvement as well. The experiences I have been privileged to immerse myself in and the people I have met along the way are nothing short of a blessing. Moreover, it is well-known just how rigorous the college process can be, especially regarding finances and the burden it can carry. With a grateful heart, I can confidently express that the generosity of others has aided in the possibility of me attending this university. It’s through the kindness of others that these experiences have been a tangible and attainable achievement. As a soon-to-be BSN graduate, I am enthralled with the magnitude of my four years at the University of St. Francis and eager to pour into the cup of others just as so many have done for me.”

“I consider myself to be very fortunate for having the opportunity to grow and learn in the environment that USF provides. Since the moment I stepped foot on campus, I felt welcomed and secure—which was something that I was looking for when attending college. Commuting for about an hour for these past two years was not easy, but being here created a sense of a new world for me. USF’s community and sense of family is something that I am truly grateful for and will take with me even after I graduate. Not only have its wonderful people guided me, but they have also supported me in my time here at the university. This has all been possible with the generous support of scholarships, which have been a great help for me and also my parents. As a first-generation student, scholarships have allowed me to not only focus on my dreams but continue to dream about bigger things. I know that my story here at USF would have been different without its people, support and guidance, so thank you for allowing me to have a better chance for my future and career.”
