MA VISUAL COMMUNICATION

Do you have a passion for relaying complex concepts in a way that people can easily understand?

Are you interested in creating and applying your own graphical language across subject areas as diverse as type design, illustration, design for print and web, service design, and design for social impact? If so, our MA Visual Communication degree is for you.

In an age of information overload, visual communication professionals have never been more in demand. This course is designed to equip you with the skills you need for a professional career in the creative industries or digital marketing sector, with a focus on industry experience, interdisciplinary collaboration and self-initiated research.

You will study at the heart of the campus in our New Adelphi building, home to all Art, Design and Creative Technology subjects, one of the Northwest of England’s largest creative hubs, with easy access to networking opportunities. You’ll also be involved in working on live projects throughout your course, working with key cultural organisations across the cities of Salford and Greater Manchester.

MEET YOUR PROGRAMME LEADER TIM ISHERWOOD

‘Visual communication, in its many forms, is a vital aspect of our society. From image-making through illustration and printed media, to typeface design and concept driven awareness campaigns designed to change attitudes, and across multiple platforms, this subject area is vast, and vital. It is of increasing importance that students and practitioners of this discipline are able to understand their wider responsibilities in terms of function and impact. This course offers the opportunity to explore and develop responses to these scenarios, developed from the student’s personal perspective and relative to their specific interests and ambitions. This individual conversation inspires me on a weekly basis within the teaching of this programme’.

“I enjoyed how the master’s course allowed me to specialise in the areas that I am most interested in. I was encouraged to think critically and logically. My favourite project was when I created a new typeface which was based on the handle of the bus, to connect everyday living into my design.”
