MA PUBLIC RELATIONS AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

Do you want to develop the technical and editorial skills needed to succeed in the modern digital communications workplace? From reputation management to content creation, our master’s degree in Public Relations and Digital Communications will equip you with the tools and training you need to launch your professional career. You can expect to:

/ Learn about the history and origins of public relations, as well as the ethical implications associated with the media industry.

/ Develop an understanding of what public relations campaigns involve, alongside developing a portfolio of work that can be used to demonstrate your skills and enhance your career prospects.

/ Network with practicing creatives across our exciting MediaCity campus, which is located next to the BBC and ITV and over 250 digital and media companies.

Our students write press releases, plan campaigns, pitch PR proposals to clients, produce videos, social media content and podcasts, write blog posts and more…all for real brands or artists!

Our students have heard from/had masterclasses from industry experts at places like BBC Radio Manchester, Lowry Theatre PR, Golin PR agency or the Royal Northern College of Music. They also go on industry visits, including to the BBC.

TO MAKE AN APPLICATION YOU WILL NEED TO...

/ Meet our entry criteria: IELTS 6.5 overall with a written element of 7.0 and no element below 6.0 and a secondclass honours degree, 2:2 or above.

/ Write a personal statement detailing your experience, motivations and knowledge of PR and digital communications and why the University of Salford, and this course is right for you.

WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU:

/ Get work experience, for example in the media on a local TV/Radio station, or write for a local magazine, newspaper or website.

/ Engage with TV, radio, online and print news features to develop your understanding of what stories the media are interested in. How do they make stories? Talk about this in your video.

/ Volunteer to create social media for a charity or sports team.

/ Send us a short, 3-minute video responding to set questions – treat it like an interview and talk about your work experience and why you want to study PR/digital communications.

/ Send us your portfolio.

/ Set up a LinkedIn profile to give examples of your work - include a link on your application.

/ Set up social media accounts- Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and YouTube. You will be creating content on these as part of the course. Include links on your application.
