When considering the type of university I wanted to attend, I was looking for a place that finds a good balance between academics, athletics, and a sense of community. Touring campus may have been one of the most valuable experiences in reaching a decision, as I was able to witness firsthand the incredible support students received from their professors, peers, and coaches. In making my final decision, not only was it important that I was enrolling in a rigorous academic program, but that I would be attending a place that would enable me to grow, continue playing sports, and have a strong and passionate community.

CHRISTIAN BRUNNER-LOPEZ MADRID, SPAIN CLASS OF 2019 FINANCE AND EUROPEAN STUDIES

During my time at Notre Dame, I have been involved in various business clubs to supplement my in-class education in a more applied environment. This has been incredibly helpful in discerning where my post-graduation interests lie and also to get to know other students better. Additionally, I work with international admissions by assisting in new projects and events to broaden Notre Dame’s international student body. Beyond the tailgates and football games, the traditions and student body, and the beautiful campus, I have been able to meet some incredible people and friends. Some of the most unique experiences I have gained as a result of being at Notre Dame include a summer studying abroad in Portugal as well as doing a business case with Peking University for a week in Beijing. I’m excited to continue my studies next semester in Hong Kong through a study abroad program before returning for my senior year at Notre Dame with the Irish.

I chose Notre Dame because of its welcoming community and familylike feel. Students and professors are passionate about education and your future success. An active student body, energetic school spirit, challenging/renowned academics, and superior alumni network are what make Notre Dame such a complete and well-rounded institution.

NICOLAS STOLZ SURREY, ENGLAND CLASS OF 2018 FINANCE MAJOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP MINOR

The opportunity to continue playing sports at a somewhat competitive level through interhall and club teams is something I am particularly appreciative of. Because of the opportunities Notre Dame has provided me and so many other international students with, I have a strong desire to pay forward these opportunities with more international students. As an international student ambassador, I act as a liaison to prospective students and work toward the goal of creating a more diverse university. I am extremely grateful for the caring and inclusive nature that comes with being a Domer. The ability to connect with a multitude of successful alumni working in a variety of fields has proved especially useful with my career search. An alum’s willingness to speak with you, hear your story, and provide advice that gives a fellow Domer a foot in the door, and ultimately an edge over competition, is unparalleled.

STUDENT PROFILES

I was first attracted to Notre Dame because of its reputation as a premier business school. My senior year of high school I visited the University and was amazed by the strong sense of community and students’ desire to make a positive impact in the world. I left campus knowing that Notre Dame could become my home away from home.

JANNE MERVI FUSS BREMEN, GERMANY CLASS OF 2019 FINANCE

Throughout my time at Notre Dame, I have participated in a variety of student clubs on campus. Student International Business Council has been the most influential to my development and future career discernment. Together with a team of students I participated in semester-long case studies with leading firms and formed valuable connections in the industry. The new Institute of Global Investing also has provided me with incredible opportunities to advance my understanding of finance and learn outside of the classroom. In no way has my time at Notre Dame been limited to my experiences on campus. Over breaks I participated in service projects in the Appalachia region, traveled to Cuba with my theology course, and consulted with local start-ups in South Africa. Next semester, I will be studying abroad in Jerusalem, Israel.

I chose Notre Dame because there simply is no other school like it. As soon as I stepped on campus, I understood why everyone who goes here is so in love with it. What makes our campus special is the community; every single person on this campus cares about you.

NICOLE WARREN ASCOT, ENGLAND CLASS OF 2021 COMPUTER SCIENCE

During my first week, I was walking to class with a group of friends, when we saw a girl sitting on a bench looking upset. We walked over to make sure she was okay, and within thirty seconds about six other students had joined us. No one knew the girl, but everyone was genuinely concerned. This made me realize how special the “ND family” is, a well-used phrase amongst students and alumni. There is always something going on at Notre Dame, and I am involved in the Society of Women Engineers, Engineers Without Borders, and the Celebration Choir, which have all been great ways to meet people on campus. Although I have only been here for a few months, I keep subconsciously referring to Notre Dame as “home,” and I already know that I have made friends for life.

Notre Dame has the unique ability to make you feel at home even when you are an ocean away from your family. From the moment I arrived on campus for my first visit, I felt welcome. This feeling of comfort paired with the world-class academics and the unparalleled amount of opportunities available made Notre Dame an easy choice.

SAM MACGINTY LETTERKENNY, IRELAND CLASS OF 2020 COMPUTER SCIENCE

As a computer science major, my free time is limited but I always make sure to find some space for fun in my week. I regularly spend my Saturday mornings out building homes with Habitat for Humanity or going running around the lakes. This year I became part of the student government as the commissioner for international student affairs. This has been a great opportunity for me to have a positive impact on the Notre Dame community. I started a business called GiveBee with a good friend of mine here at Notre Dame. GiveBee connects Instagram influencers and small businesses to create a community built on giving. The school supplied us with vital resources and information. I know that if I had stayed at home, I would not have met the right people or had the knowledge needed to pursue this dream of mine.

When I first considered Notre Dame, I was attracted by the academic strength and reputation of the business program. I also appreciated the flexibility in the curriculum that would allow me to take classes outside of my major. This enables a more diverse and enriching learning experience. I realized that it was the unique culture and collegiate environment that helped me make that big decision in favor of the Fighting Irish. As an international student coming to the United States for the first time in my life, I wanted to be in an environment that encouraged hard work and overcoming challenging situations, but was also non-cutthroat and collaborative. This is why I’m here today, and I never regretted my decision!

TATIANA VDOVINA MOSCOW, RUSSIA CLASS OF 2018 FINANCE AND GERMAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

I’ve been involved with quite a variety of things here on campus! As a firstyear and a sophomore, I was heavily involved in the Pasquerilla East Hall Council, where I was a student union representative, later a treasurer, and an executive board member. I was also a member of several committees in the Student Union Board and helped organize the Jazz Festival. In addition to that, I enjoyed doing different projects (finance and consulting) within the Student International Business Council as a project leader and a travel team member. I was able to do a semester-long internship with ProMazo, a student-led consulting firm that has a chapter on the Notre Dame campus and enabled us to work with the South Shore Line. As a current senior, I am beyond blessed and honored to be a part of the Applied Investment Management Club and get hands-on experience in portfolio management. Finally, the football games are not to be forgotten.

WORK EXPERIENCE

After graduating from Notre Dame, I joined the Ernst Young graduate consulting program in their Dublin office. I am on the IT Consulting Team, working mostly with large Irish banks, helping them to develop their IT infrastructure to improve customer experience and boost company profitability.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND INTERNSHIPS

At Notre Dame, I was on the Women’s Varsity Tennis team. This involved training for three hours every day with on-court practices and strength/ conditioning as well as matches most weekends. Through the athletics department, I was chair of community service for Student Athlete Advisory Council and was a member of the Rosenthal Leadership Academy. Outside of athletics, I participated in the McCloskey Business Plan competition with a Notre Dame initiative One Shirt, One Body. I also was a committee member of Love Your Melon, a non-profit that raises money for children’s cancer research through apparel sales. All of these extracurricular activities, along with my undergraduate business education, helped me land an internship at Credit Suisse in New York City. At Credit Suisse, I was a summer analyst in the Risk Department where I developed and managed products with an eye toward seeking innovative ways to support the changing needs of clients.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT NOTRE DAME

The sense of community at Notre Dame is evident from the minute you step on campus. From football games, dorm events, and lunches at the Dining hall, there is a sense of togetherness that is unmatched. The Notre Dame family will do anything to support each other, from helping each other find jobs to offering up their homes and being willing to talk to and support each other through thick and thin. During my time at Notre Dame, I always knew that there was somebody around who would be willing to share in my wins and woes and I have found that this has remained true even after graduation. Notre Dame is not something you are a part of for four years, but forever.

HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME

By choosing to attend Notre Dame, I had to step out of my comfort zone, living in a whole new country with very different customs and culture. I was forced to consider new ways of thinking and new perspectives that I had not encountered in Dublin. Secondly, my education at Notre Dame completely changed my academic and career goals. The professors at Notre Dame not only teach you how to apply business/political/scientific theories to what you are learning, but they also challenge you to engage in higher-level thinking and reflect upon how these theories influence and affect the world around us.

DUBLIN, IRELAND

WORK EXPERIENCE

After graduating from Notre Dame, I played on the Association of Tennis Professionals Tennis Circuit for four years and played Davis Cup for Ireland from 2009–2011. Having achieved my dream to play Davis Cup for Ireland, I retired in July 2011 to pursue a career in finance. I worked for Davy Stockbrokers in Dublin where I was responsible for managing a domestic and international client base in Dublin, London, and New York, including banks, hedge funds, pension funds, and insurance companies, working with the largest money managers across the globe. I currently work for Cantor Fitzgerald as a Senior Bond Broker. Cantor Fitzgerald are a Primary Dealer in Irish Government Bonds and a global leader in fixed income markets.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND INTERNSHIPS Notre Dame’s array of extracurriculars allowed me to learn about finance outside the classroom in a real-world context. I was involved in the Notre Dame International Club as a mentor for international firstyears and the Notre Dame Investment Club. The Varsity Tennis Team was a huge part of my life during my four years at Notre Dame. Our team finished in the Top 5 in the NCAA Rankings my senior year and I was a Monogram winner all four years.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT NOTRE DAME

My favorite thing about Notre Dame is the camaraderie and the sense of community among the students, faculty, and alumni. The friendships I built in my dorm (Alumni Hall) and the bonds that were created are still very strong. I got married last year in Ireland and ten of my hallmates traveled from the U.S. for my wedding. The ties that I formed through the Notre Dame community follow me everywhere I go and I noticed this during my time on the professional tennis circuit. I traveled to over twenty-five countries during my time on the circuit, and the Notre Dame network gave me a strong support network and sense of belonging no matter where I was in the world.

HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME

Attending Notre Dame was the best four years of my life. I got a rich and varied education and was privileged to attend one of the best business schools in America. I am incredibly grateful for the relationships that I formed while at Notre Dame with professors, alumni, and students. These relationships had the biggest impact on my life.

FINANCE AND POLITICAL SCIENCE

LONDON, ENGLAND

WORK EXPERIENCE

I am currently an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs in New York. I work primarily with healthcare companies advising them on leveraged buyouts, debt financings, capital structure considerations, and mergers and acquisitions. The work gives me the opportunity to apply many of the concepts I learned in the classroom and through the clubs I was a member of at Notre Dame.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND INTERNSHIPS Through Notre Dame, I had the opportunity to participate in organizations like the Student International Business Council (SIBC), which organizes semester long case studies with students and industry leading corporations. I also was a member of JIFFI, a student-run nonprofit offering microloans to people in South Bend, and I volunteered at the Robinson Community Learning Center. During my time at Notre Dame, I was able to take advantage of grant opportunities offered though research, professional development, and service. As a result, I was able to travel and complete internships in countries like South Africa, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Greece, and the United Kingdom.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT NOTRE DAME

The community at Notre Dame was the most important part of my Notre Dame experience. Through dorm life, classes, and clubs, the school offers you the opportunity to make friends and mentors that will last long past your time on campus.

HOW NOTRE DAME CHANGED ME

Notre Dame helped to expand my intellectual curiosity, develop my leadership capabilities, and shaped me into the person I am today. The University encourages its alumni to strive to make a difference in their communities and across the world and I hope to do the same throughout my career.
