Which Merit Weekend?

There are three Merit Weekends: March 8-9, March 22-23 and March 29-30, 2019. Please reference the college information section to determine your college availability. Using your myUK portal, you may select the weekend that best suits your schedule; however, space is limited and will fill up on a first-come, first-served basis. If all weekends are full, you can register for one of our “see blue.” U summer orientation dates.

Registering for Merit Weekend

If you have not activated your linkblue account through the myUK system, please do so by going to newstudent.uky.edu and use the UK student ID number and temporary pass code provided in your admission letter.

If you HAVE NOT registered for “see blue.” U Orientation

If paying via international bank transfer or international credit card, you will select one of our international payment vendors. Once you select one and click the Continue button, you will be redirected to that vendor’s website to complete your payment.

Login to myUK.uky.edu with your linkblue username and password. Select Student Services; Select Admissions; Select “see blue.” U Orientation Registration; Select Register for an Orientation; Select the Merit Weekend date of choice (March 8-9, March 22-23 or March 29-30); Select the number of guests attending with you (DO NOT include yourself in this number); Select Continue and choose your payment method. Once you have selected your payment method click the Next button to enter your payment method information.

Please do not attempt to pay your orientation fees directly through the UK Account Services tab, Web Payment Services or Guest Access through the student portal. Proceed through the “see blue.” U Orientation Registration to make any changes or payments.

The following instructions are based on your payment method selection:

Please note that if payment is not made at the time of confirmation you will not be confirmed for Merit Weekend and will need to reserve your space when your payment can be completed.

If paying via credit or debit card, a new browser window will open and display our credit/debit card payment form, powered by Value Payment Systems, LLC (please note the convenience fees associated with credit and debit transactions). Follow the instructions to enter and process your payment. When finished, the window will close and you will receive a confirmation message in the student portal.

If you HAVE registered for “see blue.” U Orientation Login to myUK.uky.edu with your linkblue username and password; Select Student Services; Select Admissions; Select “see blue.” U Orientation Registration; Select Switch Orientation; Select the Orientation you would like to attend and click Continue. There will be no additional charges switching your orientation unless you add additional guests.

If paying via electronic check, you will proceed through our UK check payment process. Follow the prompts to enter and confirm your bank and routing numbers, the account holder name and click Submit Payment. Please note that it will take several days for your transaction to post through your financial institution.

Placement Exam Information

Four: Register for your official proctored placement test. You may take your official test online or when you arrive on campus. See below for registration:

• Online (before Merit Weekend) with ProctorU for a small fee. Visit www.uky.edu/app/proctoruinformation to sign up with an online proctor through ProctorU • On campus during your Merit Weekend. Visit www.uky.edu/app/aleks-proctored-registration to sign up on campus for one session. Exams will be offered at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Please sign up for a date that corresponds with your confirmed Merit Weekend. When arriving on campus, please check-in first for Merit Weekend (Singletary Center for the Arts on March 8 and 22; Gatton Student Center on March 29) and you will be directed to the College of Nursing Building to complete the exam.

Who takes the proctored ALEKS placement test? • All admitted first-time students with a math ACT score 29 or below • All admitted first-time students with a math SAT score 680 or below How to prepare for your proctored ALEKS placement test for Merit Weekend One: Take a practice ALEKS test to unlock your individualized study modules at ukidp.uky.edu/oxauth/ login.htm. Two: Log back in to your ALEKS placement account (created in step one) to access your individualized learning modules. Your practice test and study modules create a study plan to better prepare you for taking your proctored placement test.

If you have any questions, visit www.uky.edu/app/ placement-testing or via email at app@uky.edu It is strongly encouraged that you complete the ALEKS placement test prior to your arrival at Merit Weekend. If it is not completed, please plan accordingly to ensure you complete check-in, math placement exam and/or foreign language exams prior to the start of the program at 1:30 p.m.

Three: You must complete at least three (3) hours in your learning modules before you can take your official, proctored test.

Foreign Language Exams

Foreign language exams in Chinese, French, German and Spanish are available during Merit Weekend. The requirement to take the exam is based on the college in which you will be enrolling. If you do not know your college, please log into the myUK web portal and select the Student Services tab, select myInfo, select myProfile: Students with a major offered by the College of Arts and Sciences: If you took Chinese, French, German or Spanish in high school, you are required to take the placement exam in the appropriate language. If you took two languages in high school, please take the exam in the language you studied the longest or the language with which you plan to continue. If you completed another foreign language and would like to continue with that language, please speak with your advisor on Day 2 regarding placement options. Students with a major in a college other than the College of Arts and Sciences: You must take the exam if you have high school credit for a language and wish to continue studying the same language. You do not need the exam if you want to start in the first level of a different language than you took in high school or if you do not plan to study a language in the fall. If you took two languages in high school, please take the exam in the language you studied the longest or the language with which you plan to continue. If you completed a foreign language other than Chinese, French, German or Spanish in high school and would like to continue with that language, please speak with your advisor on Day 2 regarding placement options. This is a computer-based proficiency exam which takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. The exam covers reading comprehension and listening. The exams will be offered on Friday at the following times: 9:15 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Please note: Space is limited at each exam time, so please arrive early to reserve a place at your preferred time. Reservations will not be taken prior to the Friday you arrive at Merit Weekend. You can reserve your exam time on a first-come, first-served basis at check-in.

Family andGuests On Saturday, guests will attend a Family and Guest Program that will include a chance to learn about various services offered at the University of Kentucky including academic expectations and college advising information, University Health Services, Student Account Services, life at UK and Lexington and more. You will also attend lunch with your students and representatives from the University of Kentucky.

Programming during Merit Weekend is based on your academic college and major and allows our college advisors to prepare for your arrival. You will be best served by researching majors now and notifying us of any changes. Visit www. uky.edu/academics for complete information on every major UK offers. If you would like to change your major, please send your name, UK Student ID number and new major to orientation@uky.edu as soon as possible. Changes must be submitted no later than one week prior to your Merit Weekend.

Payment Information

There is a $250 Merit Weekend payment that includes the Merit Weekend orientation fee and enrollment prepayment.

Refunds for Merit Weekend Cancellations

Refunds will only be made for cancellations requested by the Monday prior to your Merit Weekend (by March 4 for March 8-9; by March 18 for March 22-23; by March 25 for March 29-30). If you are requesting a refund due to cancellation or attendance for a student or family member/guest, please submit your request in writing via email to orientation@uky.edu. Refunds will only be processed after receiving the request via email.

Refunds for Not Enrolling

Attending Merit Weekend does not obligate you to attend the University of Kentucky. Students who choose not to enroll at UK will receive a refund of the $125 enrollment pre-payment ONLY but not the $125 Merit Weekend orientation fee if notified by May 1. To request this refund, students must notify the University of Kentucky by May 1 in writing via email to orientation@uky.edu. Refunds will only be processed after receiving the request via email.

Driving Directions to the South Limestone Garage

From I-75 North: (Traveling from Southeastern Kentucky) Take Exit 104 (marked Athens/Lexington). Turn left off the ramp onto Athens-Boonesboro/Richmond Road and follow to downtown Lexington for approximately 8 miles. Turn left onto South Upper Street. Go through four stoplights and turn left into the parking garage. At the entrance, pull a white ticket from the ticket dispenser by pushing the blue button. From I-75 South/ I-64 East or West: (Traveling from Northern Kentucky/Louisville or Eastern Kentucky) Traveling South on I-75/I-64 East or West Take Exit 113 (marked Paris/Lexington). Turn right off the ramp onto North Broadway (US 68). Follow through downtown for 3.5 miles. Turn left onto Bolivar Street; the street will end at South Upper Street. Turn right onto South Upper Street, then take an immediate left into the South Limestone Garage (Parking Structure #5). Pull a white ticket at the entrance from the ticket dispenser by pushing the blue button. From Bluegrass Parkway: (Traveling from Elizabethtown or Western Kentucky) Turn right off the exit onto Route 60 (Versailles Road). Follow until it becomes a one-way street, West Maxwell Street. After crossing Broadway, take a right at the second light onto South Upper Street. Enter the parking garage on the left and pull a white ticket at the entrance from the ticket dispenser by pushing the blue button. From US 27-N: (Traveling from Nicholasville Road or Harrodsburg Road) Take US 27-N (Nicholasville Road) and continue straight (27-N turns into South Limestone). After driving under the third skywalk, enter the parking garage on the left and pull a white ticket from the ticket dispenser by pushing the blue button. If using a mobile app, the physical address of the South Limestone Garage is 409 South Limestone, Lexington, KY 40506.

Overflow Parking If needed, overflow parking will be available in the Gatton Student Center parking lot located at 160 Avenue of Champions. Entrance to the lot is located at the intersection of Avenue of Champions and Lexington Avenue.

Where to Park

South Limestone Garage (PS#5) – enter from either South Upper Street or S. Limestone (see map above). Pull a white/visitor ticket upon entering the structure.

Exiting the Parking Structure – There is no need to stop at the office or the pay station. The gates will be open for exit after 6 p.m. on Friday and all day on Saturday.

Where NOT to Park

• Handicap zones – call 859-257-5757 to obtain a parking permit for UK handicap parking zones. • Service zones (yellow and white striped lines or yellow and black striped lines). • Yellow lines. • Reserved spaces. • Parking meters. • Parking meters are available for short-term parking only. The cost is 25 cents for 15 minutes. Some parking meters have time limits of 45 minutes while others have limits of 3 hours. All parking meters are 24-hour controlled.

Overflow Parking – If needed, overflow parking will be available in the Gatton Student Center parking lot located at 160 Avenue of Champions. Entrance to the lot is located at the intersection of Avenue of Champions and Lexington Avenue.

Campus Tours & Residence Hall Open Houses

o If you would like to tour the UK campus the Visitor Center will offer a 60-minute campus tour on Friday at 9 a.m. and on Saturday at 1 p.m. These tours are available only to Merit Weekend students and their guests. All tours will begin from the UK Visitor Center in the Gatton Student Center. o Students can view a model residence hall room in Jewell Hall located across from the Gatton Student Center on Friday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Additional Information • If you applied for competitive scholarships through the Office of Academic Scholarships you can expect to receive notification no later than April 1. Attending Merit Weekend does not impact any decisions regarding the scholarship award process at UK. • Overnight accommodations are not provided at Merit Weekend. If you are planning to stay overnight in Lexington we strongly recommend that you make your hotel reservations as early as possible. There are many events in Lexington in the spring and hotel availability may be limited. For more information about accommodations in Lexington, visit seeblue.com/hotels and see the Lexington Hotel Discounts at the bottom of the website. • You can attend Merit Weekend while you are in your final college selection process. Attending Merit Weekend is an opportunity and does not obligate you to attend UK (see page 10 for refund information). • Final high school transcripts must be received by June 15, 2019.
