This course gives you the chance to explore the sociological issues and debates which influence political theory, systems and practice, at both a national and international level. You’ll explore the issues of citizenship and identity, conflict resolution, democracy and development, and different systems of government.
Course length: 3yrs full-time
Politics is the study of how decisions are made in economic, social and political institutions. Sociology is the study of the social world in which we live, from social relationships and identities through to inequality and difference. Both subjects are rewarding disciplines and combining the two can help you build crucial skills that employers are looking for. You’ll have the opportunity to apply the theory through a 90-hour work placement in your second year, giving you practical experience in a professional setting. You’ll also benefit from guest lecturers such as MP’s and political figures, and engage in student-led debates. In your second year you’ll have the opportunity to study abroad for a term. Previous students have studied in America, France, Italy and Spain.

“For my work placement I’m working on a research project with a politics lecturer at the University on gendered Islamophobia, which has helped me to gain a range of interpersonal skills and has increased my interest to study at a postgraduate level.
