Your course Crime, justice and policing are inherently linked to the world of politics. Studying the two disciplines together gives you an opportunity to see how they interrelate, and how political processes can shape the criminal justice system and vice versa.
Organisations and societies need professionals who understand the factors behind crime, and how to bring crime rates down. This course will help to equip you with the critical analytic skills you need to create a career in this stimulating and rewarding sphere.

Within this course you’ll look at popular conceptions of crime in the media, and criminal action. You’ll study the ideas and philosophies behind contemporary political issues in society, and how they affect theories of crime and crime reduction.
You’ll have the opportunity to apply the theory through a 90-hour work placement in your second year, giving you practical experience in a professional setting. You’ll also benefit from guest lecturers such as MP’s and political figures, and engage in student-led debates. In your second year you’ll have the opportunity to study abroad for a term. Previous students have studied in America, France, Italy and Spain.
