Former chair of the CU Department of Surgery and medical pioneer Dr. Guillermo Aragón changed thousands of lives throughout his career and inspired generations of physicians to follow in his footsteps. To continue this proud legacy, he endowed a chair to ensure resources are available in perpetuity to attract and retain the best physician-scientists in the world.

Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Endowed Chair in Retinal Diseases

William P. Arend Endowed Chair in Rheumatology

After receiving outstanding care at the UCHealth Eye Center, Sue Anschutz-Rodgers was inspired to establish the first endowed chair in the CU Department of Ophthalmology. This gift supports academic research in retinal diseases and helps researchers create new, more effective therapies for patients.

This chair was established to support programmatic research and education in the CU Department of Rheumatology. This support ensures long-term funding for critical research and programmatic support for the department, and helps them recruit and retain some of the best and brightest physician-researchers.

Louise Baum Endowed Chair for Neurology

This chair was established to support research investigating degenerative diseases of the brain. This research is informing the development of existing therapies and new treatment options to better the lives of those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases.

Tomas Berl, MD, Endowed Chair in Kidney Disease and Hypertension Research

S. Gilbert Blount Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research

This chair was funded by gifts from friends and admirers of S. Gilbert Blount, MD, including Donald G. White and Family, and the CU Department of Medicine. George B. Boedecker, Jr. and Boedecker Foundation Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine

George Boedecker and the Boedecker Foundation endowed this chair to ensure that the CU Department of Emergency Medicine is able to attract and retain the world’s finest physicians, and continue to increase knowledge of optimal emergency medicine approaches for generations to come.

Charles Boettcher II Endowed Chair in Atherosclerosis Research The Boettcher Foundation has a long history of investing in Colorado. At CU Anschutz, they endowed this chair in recognition of Charles Boettcher II, a lifelong Coloradan passionate about improving society and supporting his community. This fund supports research in atherosclerosis.

Joyce M. Brown Chair for Developmental Therapeutics in Women’s Cancers

After Joyce Brown was diagnosed with advanced gynecological cancer in 2014, she was treated at the CU Cancer Center by Jennifer Diamond, MD. This experience inspired Joyce and her husband, Dick, to give back to support the Women’s Cancer Developmental Therapeutics Program. Their philanthropy advances new therapies for women’s cancers to improve patient outcomes.

Ira C. Brownlie Endowed Chair in Craniofacial Molecular Biology

Established to honor Ira Brownlie’s distinguished career in dentistry, his daughter, Elizabeth Timpte, created this endowed chair in craniofacial molecular biology. This fund helps provide scholarships, equipment and faculty support for the CU School of Dental Medicine.

Paul A. Bunn, Jr. Endowed Chair in Cancer Research

This chair was created in honor of Dr. Robert Freedman, former chair of the CU Department of Psychiatry Robert Freedman to ensure the department has the resources to carry forward his proud legacy of growing the department. Epperson-Zorn Endowed Chair for Innovation in Family Medicine

Satish K. Garg and Bimla Garg Barbara Davis Center Young Adult Clinic Endowed Chair

Through the generosity of the Williams Family Foundation, this gift helps the CU Department of Family Medicine secure resources for physicians to conceptualize and test ideas pertinent to continuing improvements in individual and population health.

Lula O. Lubchenco, MD, Endowed Chair in Neonatology

This endowed chair was made possible through the generous support of the CU Section of Neonatology, the Lubchenco and Josephson families, and other benefactors committed to carrying forward Dr. Lula Olga Lubchenco’s legacy as a pioneer in the care of newborn infants. The creation of this chair marks an important milestone at CU Anschutz as the first chair named in honor of a female faculty member and distinguished alumna of the CU School of Medicine.

Edgar L., Patricia M. Makowski and Family Endowed Chair in Obstetrics

Edgar Makowski was the former chair of the CU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and helped build a foundation of excellence. Under his leadership, the OB/GYN residency program doubled in size and extramural research funding increased. This endowed chair stands as an enduring tribute to Dr. Makowski’s legacy as a pioneer in the field and will support faculty for generations.

Michael L. Manco-Johnson, MD, Endowed Chair in Radiology

Michael L. Manco-Johnson, MD, was the former chair of the CU Department of Radiology and a 1972 CU School of Medicine alumnus. He was a leader in the field of diagnostic ultrasound, an accomplished physician and researcher, and a mentor to many. By establishing this chair, the department will continue the critical work set in motion by Dr. Manco-Johnson, and carry forward his proud legacy in perpetuity.

Marsico Chair for Excellence in the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center

With a passion for mental and behavioral health, the Marisco family established an endowed chair to ensure the long-term growth and success of the Johnson Depression Center. Generosity from the Marsico family ensures faculty and practitioners there will continue to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

This endowed chair was established in memory of Emily McClintock Addlesperger, with commitments from her parents Peggy and Richard McClintock, along with family, friends and the CU Gynecologic Oncology Council. Charles Elliott Morris Endowed Chair in Neurology

Charles and his wife, Naomi, were the first married couple admitted to the CU School of Medicine and both graduated in 1955. They went on to lead successful careers in medicine and remained connected to CU. This endowed chair honors the Morris family and carries forward their hope of inspiring future generations of physicians.

In honor of Paul R. Joanne Posner-Mayer Endowed Chair in Physical Therapy This is the first endowed chair in the CU Physical Therapy Program, and supports the recruitment and retention of top faculty. Joanne Posner-Mayer (’73) launched a company, Fitball, after graduating from CU and is now dedicated to giving back to the program where she got her start. This endowed chair is just one avenue of her support that will live in perpetuity.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Endowed Chair

Mary and George Sissel’s grandson, Ben, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and immediately sought care at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Once the diagnosis was confirmed, Ben became a patient at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes — a decision he credits with changing his life. This chair provides resources for faculty working on a cure for type 1 diabetes.
