Richard Abrams and Marian Rewers Endowed Chair

In honor of Drs. Abrams’ and Rewers’ 30-year career dedicated to the management of childhood diabetes, this chair supports research focused on prevention at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Throughout their careers, Drs. Nancy Carroll Allen Endowed Chair in Hematology Research

Aragón | Gonzalez-Gíustí Endowed Chair in Surgery

The Anschutz Foundation is dedicated to expanding health care options for people in the Rocky Mountain region. This chair fuels research, mentoring and education efforts in the Center for Women’s Health Research. As one of the only endowed chairs in women’s health, this allows CU to recruit and retain the best and brightest physician-researchers.

Former chair of the CU Department of Surgery and medical pioneer Dr. Guillermo Aragón changed thousands of lives throughout his career and inspired generations of physicians to follow in his footsteps. To continue this proud legacy, he endowed a chair to ensure resources are available in perpetuity to attract and retain the best physician-scientists in the world.

Sue Anschutz-Rodgers Endowed Chair in Retinal Diseases

William P. Arend Endowed Chair in Rheumatology

After receiving outstanding care at the UCHealth Eye Center, Sue Anschutz-Rodgers was inspired to establish the first endowed chair in the CU Department of Ophthalmology. This gift supports academic research in retinal diseases and helps researchers create new, more effective therapies for patients.

This chair was established to support programmatic research and education in the CU Department of Rheumatology. This support ensures long-term funding for critical research and programmatic support for the department, and helps them recruit and retain some of the best and brightest physician-researchers.

Louise Baum Endowed Chair for Neurology

This chair was established to support research investigating degenerative diseases of the brain. This research is informing the development of existing therapies and new treatment options to better the lives of those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases.

Tomas Berl, MD, Endowed Chair in Kidney Disease and Hypertension Research

This chair was established to honor the pioneering career of Tomas Berl, MD, professor emeritus in nephrology at CU Anschutz. The fund supports research in renal diseases and hypertension, and ensures that our best and brightest faculty have the resources they need for innovative thinking.

S. Gilbert Blount Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research

This chair was funded by gifts from friends and admirers of S. Gilbert Blount, MD, including Donald G. White and Family, and the CU Department of Medicine. This fitting recognition of Dr. Blount’s career advances research in the Division of Cardiology, helping transform the care available to patients.

George B. Boedecker, Jr. and Boedecker Foundation Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine

George Boedecker and the Boedecker Foundation endowed this chair to ensure that the CU Department of Emergency Medicine is able to attract and retain the world’s finest physicians, and continue to increase knowledge of optimal emergency medicine approaches for generations to come.

Charles Boettcher II Endowed Chair in Atherosclerosis Research The Boettcher Foundation has a long history of investing in Colorado. At CU Anschutz, they endowed this chair in recognition of Charles Boettcher II, a lifelong Coloradan passionate about improving society and supporting his community. This fund supports research in atherosclerosis.

Joyce M. Brown Chair for Developmental Therapeutics in Women’s Cancers Fund

After Joyce Brown was diagnosed with advanced gynecological cancer in 2014, she was treated at the CU Cancer Center by Jennifer Diamond, MD. This experience inspired Joyce and her husband, Dick, to give back to support the Women’s Cancer Developmental Therapeutics Program. Their philanthropy advances new therapies for women’s cancers to improve patient outcomes.

Ira C. Brownlie Endowed Chair in Craniofacial Molecular Biology

Established to honor Ira Brownlie’s distinguished career in dentistry, his daughter, Elizabeth Timpte, created this endowed chair in craniofacial molecular biology. This fund helps provide scholarships, equipment and faculty support for the CU School of Dental Medicine.

Paul A. Bunn, Jr. Endowed Chair in Cancer Research

This chair honors Dr. Bunn’s steadfast commitment to serving others. This fund advances the CU Cancer Center’s vision of changing lives and making cancer a disease of the past. This chair fuels the center’s continued pursuit of innovation in research and excellence in cancer care.

Paul Bunn | James Dudley Endowed Chair in Cancer Research

Elisabeth Dudley and the Dudley family created this chair in honor of Dr. Bunn’s unwavering compassion and humility while caring for her husband, James Dudley.

This fund has brought to life an ambitious vision for the CU Cancer Center and fueled its continued pursuit of bold breakthroughs with transformative potential for cancer care.

James C. Campbell Endowed Chair for Pulmonary Medicine James Campbell was able to realize his dream of giving back after receiving his undergraduate degree from CU Boulder. By establishing this chair in the CU Department of Pulmonary Medicine, he is creating a legacy of transforming lives and supporting the activities of early-career researchers.

CancerCure | AMC Cancer Fund Endowed Chair for Cancer Prevention and Control

A group of dedicated community members collaborated to create this chair to support cancer prevention and control. With this endowment, CancerCure is making an impact on the lives of countless people who benefit from early detection and prevention in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.

The Cancer League of Colorado is dedicated to making a lasting impact in the fight against cancer and the quest for a cure. This chair ensures researchers at the CU Cancer Center have the resources to transform cancer prevention and care, and ultimately find a cure, and that the best possible care is available to the people of Colorado and beyond.

H. Peter Chase Endowed Chair

In partnership with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Dr. Chase created this endowed chair to support pediatric research and clinical care programs at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. This support helps researchers develop therapies for newly diagnosed patients.

Henry N. Claman, MD, Endowed Chair in Clinical Immunology Research

Funded by gifts from Dr. Claman, this chair was established in the CU Division of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. This support advances vital research in clinical immunology and has a significant impact on patients in the Rocky Mountain region.

Mack L. Clayton Endowed Chair in Orthopedics

An anonymous donor established this chair in recognition of the outstanding care available in the CU Department of Orthopedics and to honor the 40-year career of Dr. Clayton — a pioneer in orthopedics. This chair ensures the department has the resources to recruit and retain top talent to provide leading patient care for years to come.

Robert F. and Patricia Young Connor Endowed Chair in Young Women’s Breast Cancer Research

As part of a longstanding philanthropic relationship with CU, the Connor Family Foundation established this endowed chair to support research in young women’s breast cancer, with the goal of improving outcomes for patients and giving hope to their families.

By establishing this chair in their parents’ names, the Connors are leaving an enduring legacy in their honor.

D’Ambrosia Family Endowed Chair in Orthopedics

Dr. Robert D’Ambrosia joined the CU Department of Orthopedics in 2002 as professor and chair. He endowed this chair to provide critical support for ongoing research, faculty and education programs in the department. This fund helps the department recruit and retain some of the best and brightest physician-researchers.

The Patten-Davis Foundation endowed this chair in honor of co-founder Amy Davis, a longtime supporter of innovative research at CU. This chair supports research in basic human immunology and immune modulation to enhance cancer treatment across the disease spectrum.

Martha Cannon Dear Endowed Chair for Breast Cancer Research

Walt Dear endowed this chair in memory of his wife and as a testament to his appreciation for the extraordinary care she received at the CU Cancer Center. This chair provides critical resources to advance life-changing research and patient care for those with breast cancer.

Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation Chair in Early Childhood Caries

Longtime CU School of Dental Medicine partner Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation is passionate about ensuring children have access to high-quality dental care. With this chair, they are providing resources in perpetuity to support future teaching opportunities and the expansion of faculty expertise in childhood caries prevention and treatment.

The CU Department of Surgery is dedicated to attracting and retaining top talent. To transform surgery in the Division of Urology, the department established this chair to provide resources for bright minds in surgery as they pioneer and advance new therapies and deliver world-class patient care.

Michael W. Dunaway Endowed Chair in Vascular Surgery

Founder and CEO of Polestar Labs Michael Dunaway spent an entire career in health care and understands the importance of a robust research program. This chair provides vital resources to faculty in the CU Division of Vascular Surgery to continue a world-class research operation.

Frieda and G.S. Eisenbarth Clinical Immunology Endowed Chair

This chair was funded by several generous benefactors including the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, Children’s Diabetes Foundation, Colorado Prevention Center and Societe Generale. This endowment supports research enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and other autoimmune disorders at the Barbara Davis Center.

Endowed Chair in Orthopedic Spinal Innovation

Robert Freedman, MD, Endowed Chair in Psychiatry

This endowed chair was created in recognition of the outstanding care available through the CU Department of Orthopedics. This funding supports talented leaders in the field and their research in spinal innovation. This investment in spine research at CU Anschutz helps ensure the university’s continued leadership in the field and ability to help patients regain their mobility.

This chair was created in honor of Dr. Robert Freedman, former chair of the CU Department of Psychiatry Robert Freedman to ensure the department has the resources to carry forward his proud legacy of growing the department. Under Dr. Freedman’s leadership, research operations grew and patient care for pregnant women and newborn children expanded.

Epperson-Zorn Endowed Chair for Innovation in Family Medicine

Satish K. Garg and Bimla Garg Barbara Davis Center Young Adult Clinic Endowed Chair

Through the generosity of the Williams Family Foundation, this gift helps the CU Department of Family Medicine secure resources for physicians to conceptualize and test ideas pertinent to continuing improvements in individual and population health.

This work informs practice, education and research in family medicine.

The Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes community of supporters, in partnership with the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, created this chair to further research into the prevention and treatment of adolescent diabetes. This funding is helping CU researchers develop new, less-invasive therapy options for young adults with diabetes.

Charles C. Gates Endowed Chair in Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology

Operating as the only comprehensive regenerative medicine center within an 800-mile radius, the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine brings the vision of Charles C. Gates to life. Established by the Gates Frontiers Fund, this chair has helped CU recruit top talent from around the world to conduct leading-edge research in a state-of-the-art facility, transforming the medicine of tomorrow.

John S. Gates Endowed Chair in Stem Cell Biology

Recognizing the importance of recruiting and retaining top talent, the Gates Frontiers Fund established this chair in honor of John Gates, one of two trustees of the Gates Frontiers Fund. This endowment provides resources to recruit the best and brightest physicianresearchers from around the world.

Tim Gill Endowed Chair for AIDS Research

Understanding the overwhelming need for AIDS research, this chair was established to advance research initiatives focused on AIDS and related infectious diseases. With this gift, the CU Department of Infectious Diseases is able recruit and retain some of the best and brightest physician-researchers to drive progress in the field.

This chair was established to advance education, clinical services and research in health maintenance and disease prevention at the Colorado Prevention Center. The fund supports the center’s activities in clinic trials, research and prevention outreach.

Green-Edelman Endowed Chair for Practice-Based Research in Family Medicine

This gift was made by the A.F. Williams Foundation to fuel research efforts in the CU Department of Family Medicine focused on enhancing the patient experience in primary care. With these resources, CU faculty are developing new models that integrate physical and mental health care to treat the whole person.

David F. and Margaret Turley Grohne Chair in Cancer Prevention After a personal experience with cancer, Margaret Grohne wanted to give back and help researchers prevent, treat and cure the disease. To accomplish these goals, the Grohnes established this chair to further support the research that will make possible future discoveries benefiting people with cancer in Colorado and across the country.

Passionate supporters of the CU Cancer Center, Margaret and David Grohne endowed this chair to fuel cancer treatment research. Currently, this fund provides vital resources to the CU Department of Radiation Oncology as faculty explore novel ways to deliver radiotherapy and improve the quality of life of people battling cancer.

David F. and Margaret Turley Grohne Chair in Translational Cancer Research With a family history of cancer, the Grohnes know the importance of robust clinical care options. This chair was established to fuel high-risk, high-reward research to better understand how cancer spreads and create new treatments, moving novel therapies from research bench to patient bedside quickly.

Grohne-Stapp Endowed Chair for Cancer Research

With personal family histories of cancer, Margaret Stapp and the Grohne family are passionate about helping find a cure. This chair was established to advance promising research at the CU Cancer Center.

Hart Family Endowed Chair in Emphysema Research

The generous spirit of Robert Hart is evident in this endowed chair that supports critical research in pulmonary disease. This forward-thinking work is helping researchers better understand emphysema and develop new therapies for patients.

Hawkins Sports Medicine Endowed Chair

William R. Hiatt Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Research

Pia and Fred R. Hirsch Endowed Chair in Lung Cancer Research

Igal Kam, MD, Endowed Chair in Transplant Surgery

In honor of Dr. Kam’s lifelong passion and dedication to transplant surgery, this chair was established to support research and technical improvements in the field. This fund ensures that the best and brightest minds in surgery have the resources to continue developing new techniques and treatment options for patients.

Kern Foundation Joel S. Levine, MD, Endowed Chair

A group of dedicated benefactors including the Kern Foundation, Rose Community Foundation, Patricia Crown, Lillian Irvin and the CU Department of Medicine worked together to create this chair, which is advancing research in inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Colorado.

Mary Rossick Kern and Jerome Kern Endowed Chair in Thyroid Tumor Research

Through the vision and generosity of the Kern family, this chair was created to enhance the superior research and clinical care that are hallmarks of the CU Division of Endocrinology. Their commitment makes innovative research ideas possible, extending the impact on thyroid cancer far beyond the boundaries of traditional academic medicine.

Leopold Korn and Michael Korn Endowed Chair in Parkinson’s Disease A family history of Parkinson’s disease inspired the creation of this endowed chair. This generous support provides resources for the CU School of Medicine to recruit and retain top talent in Parkinson’s disease research and treatment. The family hopes their philanthropy will enhance the care available to patients today and provide a pathway to a cure tomorrow.

Successful Denver-area entrepreneurs with no known connection to the University of Colorado, Joseph and Rose LaConte made a transformative gift through their estate to support cardiology. This endowed chair is making a measurable impact at CU Anschutz by supporting research and innovation in cardiology treatments.

Edgar L., Patricia M. Makowski and Family Endowed Chair in Obstetrics

Edgar Makowski was the former chair of the CU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and helped build a foundation of excellence. Under his leadership, the OB/GYN residency program doubled in size and extramural research funding increased. This endowed chair stands as an enduring tribute to Dr. Makowski’s legacy as a pioneer in the field and will support faculty for generations.

Gordon Meiklejohn Endowed Chair for Internal Medicine

With a passion for mental and behavioral health, the Marisco family established an endowed chair to ensure the long-term growth and success of the Johnson Depression Center. Generosity from the Marsico family ensures faculty and practitioners there will continue to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

To further Dr. Meiklejohn’s legacy of excellence in teaching, research and patient care, a group of colleagues established this fund to recognize his contributions and service to the CU School of Medicine, and to further enrich the academic experience for generations of students to come.

Roger S. Mitchell Endowed Chair in Lung and Critical Care Research

Inspired by the care and compassion his mother received at CU Anschutz, Thomas Marsico and his wife, Cydney, endowed this chair in her memory. Cleo Meador and George Ryland Scott Chair of Medicine in Hematology

This chair was established by Dr. Robert and Nancy Allen to provide critical support for research in hematological diseases. This fund helps attract and retain top talent, and gives them the resources necessary to transform the CU Department of Hematology.

In honor of Dr. Roger Mitchell, who dedicated his career to providing high-quality patient care, this chair was established to support research and care in lung disease. Daniel and Janet Mordecai Chair in Cancer Stem Cell Research

With the hope of accelerating cancer research and improving patient outcomes, Janet Mordecai endowed this chair to support collaboration between the CU Cancer Center and the Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine. Charles Elliott Morris Endowed Chair in Neurology

Charles and his wife, Naomi, were the first married couple admitted to the CU School of Medicine and both graduated in 1955. They went on to lead successful careers in medicine and remained connected to CU. This endowed chair honors the Morris family and carries forward their hope of inspiring future generations of physicians.

Paul R. O’Hara II Endowed Chair in Esophageal Cancer

In honor of Paul R. O’Hara II, and out of gratitude for the care he received while at the CU Cancer Center, Katy and Paul Rady established this chair to support promising research in the search for a cure for esophageal cancer. By establishing this named chair, the Rady family is carrying forward Paul O’Hara’s legacy in perpetuity.

Orr Family Endowed Chair in Adult Diabetes

Inspired by innovative research efforts at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes and eager to help move them forward, Wyoming couple Susie and Ed Orr established the Orr Family Endowed Chair in Adult Diabetes in 2017. The Orrs are passionate about advancing our understanding of diabetes and speeding new developments from the lab to the clinic.

Courtenay C. and Lucy Patten Davis Endowed Chair in Lung Cancer Research

After a personal experience with lung cancer treatment at the CU Cancer Center, an anonymous benefactor endowed this chair to ensure that future generations will have access to world-class care. The research this fund makes possible is leading to innovative treatment options that were not previously thought possible.

Courtenay C. and Lucy Patten Davis Endowed Chair in Surgical Thoracic Oncology

In recognition of outstanding care received at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, an anonymous benefactor endowed this chair to support thoracic oncology. The research made possible with this support is leading to new surgical options for patients diagnosed with thoracic cancer.

Thomas L. Petty Chair for Pulmonary Research

This fund was created to celebrate the life and work of Dr. Petty, and to further his research in and impact on the field of pulmonary medicine. Dr. Petty’s many contributions to the field directly improved quality of life for thousands of patients. This fund continues lifeenhancing research in pulmonary medicine.

Kenneth B. Poirier Cardiac Transplant Endowed Chair

Mr. and Mrs. Millman left their mark in business and philanthropy throughout the Denver area. This endowed chair supports education and clinical care in cardiology, and enables CU to bring thought leaders in advanced heart failure and transplant to campus. These activities enhance the student educational experience and provide opportunities for knowledge sharing.

Joanne Posner-Mayer Endowed Chair in Physical Therapy This is the first endowed chair in the CU Physical Therapy Program, and supports the recruitment and retention of top faculty. Joanne Posner-Mayer (’73) launched a company, Fitball, after graduating from CU and is now dedicated to giving back to the program where she got her start. This endowed chair is just one avenue of her support that will live in perpetuity.

Dr. William Robinson Endowed Chair in Cancer Research Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Endowed Chair

Through an anonymous gift, this chair was established to support the graduate program in psychiatric mental health nursing in the CU College of Nursing. This funding supports innovative curriculum development and the delivery of a high-quality nursing education to the next generation of mental health leaders.

Bobby Rifkin Endowed Chair in Prostate Cancer Research

This chair was funded by gifts from Bobby Rifkin, his friends, the CU Cancer Center and the CU Department of Medicine. This chair advances prostate cancer research focused on the development of new and innovative treatment options.

Monroe and Rella Rifkin Endowed Chair in Cancer Research

With the hope that research will change the trajectory of breast cancer treatment, Monroe and Rella Rifkin support efforts in breast cancer mitigation and prevention at the CU Cancer Center. As a breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Rifkin knows the value of high-quality health care, and this fund is helping researchers make breast cancer a disease of the past.

This chair recognizes the outstanding career of Dr. William Robinson, a pioneer in white blood cell regulation and first head of the CU Division of Medical Oncology. He also founded the melanoma tissue bank at CU that encourages national and international collaboration. This support fuels basic and translational research, and carries forward Dr. Robinson’s proud legacy.

Rocky Mountain Endowed Chair in Renal Research

University of Colorado Medicine, formerly University Physicians, Inc., provides critical resources to the CU Anschutz Medical Campus in support of research and education programs. This chair, funded in partnership with the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension, ensures that CU faculty have the resources they need to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients with kidney diseases.

Morton and Sandra Saffer Endowed Chair in Personalized Cancer Treatment and Oncology Leadership Mrs. Saffer established this chair in gratitude for the high-quality care that she received at the CU Cancer Center. The Saffer Chair provides valuable resources to retain and recruit top talent, and to accelerate research exploring new genetic pharmacology treatments in the field of oncology. She is leaving an important legacy, helping to speed promising cancer research.

Named in honor of his children, this chair was funded by Dr. Paul Seligman and Dr. Robert and Nancy Allen to provide ongoing support for research in the CU Division of Hematology. John H. and Cynthia H. Schultz Endowed Chair in Surgery

Ruth and Ralph Seligman Endowed Chair in Hematology

After a personal experience with the CU Department of Surgery, Cynthia and John Schultz endowed this chair to support innovative surgical therapies and collaboration among physician-researchers at CU. These funds are also used to pioneer and enhance a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Named in honor of Dr. Paul Seligman’s parents, this chair was funded by Dr. Paul Seligman and Dr. Robert and Nancy Allen and the CU Division of Hematology. This funding specifically supports research into hematologic conditions such as cancer, in order to bring about better understanding of disease and the development of novel therapeutics.

Anna and John J. Sie Endowed Chair for the Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome

This chair preserves Dr. Linda Crnic’s commitment to helping those with Down syndrome and ensures her legacy is carried forward through innovative research and individualized clinical care. These funds allow the institute to expand the number of researchers investigating ways to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome.

Sissel & Findlow Family Chair

Mary and George Sissel’s grandson, Ben, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and immediately sought care at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Once the diagnosis was confirmed, Ben became a patient at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes — a decision he credits with changing his life. This chair provides resources for faculty working on a cure for type 1 diabetes.

Slater Family Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology

The Slaters established this chair to advance scientific discovery in the CU Department of Ophthalmology.

A longstanding partner of the department, the Slater family was motivated by the belief that future curative therapies for blinding diseases are within reach.

Charley J. Smyth Chair in Rheumatology Research

This chair was established by the Arthritis Foundation and the Helen and Arthur E. Doni Solich Family Endowed Chair in Ocular Stem Cell Research

After watching his mother struggle with the ill effects of macular degeneration, George Solich endowed a chair in the hope that someday macular degeneration will be a disease of the past. With the increasing prevalence of the disease in an aging population, this chair provides vital resources to rapidly advance new and effective treatments.

Stapp | Harlow Endowed Chair for Cancer Research

Funding for this chair began with William Harlow in 1954, who gave to support hematology and cancer research. Decades later, Margaret Stapp completed the funding for this chair to advance cancer research and care in the CU Division of Medical Oncology after her husband’s battle with cancer.

John M. Stewart Chair for Peptide Research

After 40 years leading the field of peptide chemistry, Dr. Stewart endowed this chair to ensure that future generations of researchers would have the resources to continue forward-thinking research. This chair creates and enduring legacy to his leadership in the field and inspires others to pursue careers in research.

E. Stewart Taylor, MD, Endowed Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology

The CU School of Medicine and over 100 members of the CU community created this chair in obstetrics and gynecology. Named in recognition of Dr. Taylor, former chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, this chair carries forward his legacy of achievement in research and education on women’s health.

W.H. Lea for Justice Endowed Chair in Pediatric Law, Ethics and Policy Fund

This endowed chair was created to foster better understanding of legal the ethical considerations of children in health care settings. Funding in this area encourages collaboration among departments and organizations including the CU Department of Pediatrics, CU Department of Psychology, the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect and many others.

Judith and Joseph Wagner Chair in Women’s Health Research

This fund was created to accelerate women’s health breakthroughs through better understanding of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The Wagner Chair was one of the only chairs in women’s health research in the world when established, and the first at the University of Colorado.
