General Information Registration Before collecting your gowns, you must register at the smaller Minerva Theatre, opposite the Chichester Festival Theatre. At Registration you will be given your theatre ticket with your seat row and number displayed. The ticket will also state the time by which you must take your seat in the Theatre. If you are late you may not be admitted into the Theatre. Failure to register or lateness will result in your name not being called at the ceremony and your certificate will be posted to you by Academic Registry. Programmes will be available as you enter the theatre and at the Graduation Information Point in the foyer of the main Theatre. Car parking The University of Chichester regrets it cannot provide car parking for Graduands and their guests. However, there are a number of car parks close to the Chichester Festival Theatre (where the ceremonies are held). A map of the public car parks in Chichester is provided with your Graduation Pack. You are advised to leave plenty of time to find a parking space. Car parking for people with disabilities Limited spaces will be available at the north end of the Northgate car park. Those with walking difficulties may be dropped off by the Theatre foyer prior to the driver finding a parking space. Parking by the foyer is not permitted.

General Information Academic dress When you have registered you can go to the robing area in the Steven Pimlott Building, next to the Minerva Theatre to collect your academic gown. Present your robe hire acknowledgement form and theatre seat ticket. Having robed, please leave the Steven Pimlott Building promptly to avoid congestion. A specific description of the University of Chichester academic dress is on page 18. Those receiving MPhil or PhD degrees will wear the academic dress of the University of Southampton - see page 19. Please note that all Graduands to be presented must wear academic dress comprising gown, mortarboard and hood, for the award they are receiving. To place your order visit www.wmnortham.co.uk or telephone 0870 2401852. Please ensure you have ordered your gown by 4 November 2011. Contact details: Wm Northam & Company Ltd. PO Box 367 Waterbeach Cambridgeshire CB25 9QY Enquiries: 0870 2401852 Email: student@wmnortham.co.uk Quote ‘University of Chichester’ and date of Ceremony. Tips for wearing hood and mortarboard We recommend you wear a shirt or blouse. The hood (or colours) is secured by a loop at the front, which will fasten onto a shirt or blouse button. This helps the hood to stay in place. The mortarboards do come in a variety of sizes so it’s a good idea to bring some hairpins to secure it firmly.

General Information Your presentation Presiding Officer: Derek Jenkins, Chair of Governors At the appropriate time, the staff usher will conduct the Graduands in your course to the foot of the stage. Go up on to the stage and shake hands with the Presiding Officer. Do not rush - take your time across the stage, be confident while you are on stage - and don’t forget, you are allowed to smile! A member of the platform party will then hand you an envelope. You will go off the steps on the opposite side of the stage, pass through the exit, go quietly through the foyer and return (via door 5 or 6) to your seat. In the foyer your envelope will be exchanged for your degree certificate. Staff ushers will be on hand to explain the process when you are seated, before the ceremony. For the benefit of your course colleagues going across the stage, please remain quiet while you go through the foyer. The Ceremony will last approximately 60 - 90 minutes and be brought to a formal close by the Vice-Chancellor. The platform party will then process from the stage, followed by the academic staff, graduands and, finally, guests. Theatre regulations require that children must have an allocated seat. They are not permitted to sit on parents’ or relatives’ laps. For the enjoyment of the Ceremony by Graduands and for the benefit of other guests, please ensure that small children remain in their seats. If your guests include young babies, please advise the Graduation Team now so that we can ensure they are near an exit.
