STILL THE BEST IN THE NORTH WEST THE University has maintained last year’s strongest ever position in the National Student Survey (NSS), with Chester Students’ Union (CSU) holding its place at the top of the region for the second year running – and it’s all thanks to our students. A record number took part in this year’s NSS, helping the University to sustain its overall student satisfaction rate of 88%, meaning it has held on to second place within the North West, and positioning it 2% above the national average. And with a score of 75%, CSU is not only the leader in its field in the region, but also 7% above the sector average. The University has also earned joint first place in the North West for teaching (89%), and academic support (85%). Jonathan Harper, President of Chester Students’ Union, said: “This is wonderful news, and a credit to the constant hard work and enthusiasm displayed by all the CSU officers and staff. “We won’t be resting on our laurels however, and have even more support and activities planned for the coming academic year.” Dr Chris Haslam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor – Corporate Development and the Student Experience, added: “The NSS is one of the most important sets of results for the University as the Survey is all about the students, their experience and what they think about the institution. “Once again, we have achieved a really outstanding set of scores across the whole institution, with some fantastic improvements in key areas. It is extremely encouraging for everyone at the University that we continue to have very high levels of student satisfaction, significantly above the national average.” All final year students from every UK higher education institution are invited to participate in the NSS, which is independently administered by market research experts Ipsos MORI. Over the course of the next academic year, when the University celebrates its 175th anniversary, CSU will be launching an awareness raising campaign about the Survey with the hope of securing the University its best ever score, so look information across in the lead up to the 2015 questionnaire and make sure if you are in your final year that you have your say.
