UCF

is a major metropolitan research university in

a dynamic city that is known worldwide for its

entertainment and hospitality. But there are many more reasons for you to become a UCF Knight.

UCF offers nationally and internationally recognized programs in engineering,

simulation, education, medicine, hospitality management, film and media, and other

fields. Our many partnerships with governments and industries result in unique facilities and special opportunities for internships, cooperative education experiences, servicelearning courses, and, ultimately, high-wage jobs upon graduation.

Our diverse student body draws from every state and more than 145 countries. But UCF students share common interests in growing intellectually, gaining hands-on

field experiences, participating in technologically advanced classrooms, and engaging

in clubs, organizations, and community service projects. Our faculty members are awardwinning teachers. They support undergraduate student research in many fields and are internationally known scholars.

In 2013, UCF will celebrate its 50th anniversary, and we are proud to be one of the great success stories in higher education. I hope that this viewbook will help you to discover how UCF stands for opportunity for you. Enjoy our inviting campus.

Cordially yours,

John C. Hitt, President

RYAN RUST Driven

Imagine 250,000 people (and growing) in 24 countries working together to send care packages to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ryan Rust’s Adopt a Hero program connects the generous with those far from home. I’ve always lived by the saying: If not you, then who? As an accomplished race car driver, Ryan has won more than 90 races. For me, racing comes down to fun, but it’s also the competition of it all.

LOCATION, LOCATION,

S

ure, you know about

Disney, Universal and

SeaWorld. But did you know

that Central Florida has 100-plus theme

parks and attractions? There are also more than

5,000 restaurants and an array of beautiful beaches just a short drive away, making this area one of the top vacation destinations in the world.

As a UCF student, you can take advantage of all of this and

more year-round. And you’ll never have to put on snow boots for

any of it. In fact, our weather is so mild, you can usually wear shorts

on Thanksgiving. Our sunny days are perfect for studying on the grass or by the Reflecting Pond.

But Orlando is not just theme parks. Our area has seen rapid growth and economic expansion as a center for the life sciences, medical innovation

and technological developments. That’s why nearly 60 percent of our alumni

stay in Central Florida to start their careers. More and more, Central Florida

is becoming a Knight nation. It’s a great place to live, work and play. Will you be its next permanent resident?

JEFF RUPERT The Art & Business of Music

UCF Music’s Jeff Rupert understands that music is an art and a business—and so the department started its own record label, in addition to its jazz festival. Flying Horse Records has released two albums and they’re rising in the charts. The goal is to give the students a voice, let them help make the record company. Jeff, his colleagues and his students also have a history of getting involved in the community. When we started the UCF–Orlando Jazz Festival, we developed a really important partnership with the community.
