Credits: This pamphlet is based on a pamphlet that originally appeared in the Anchorage Daily News in 1994 on the 30th anniversary of the Good Friday earthquake. The concept for that booklet and much of the text came from a similar publication about the earthquake threat in San Francisco, entitled The Next Big Earthquake in the Bay Area May Come Sooner Than You Think, by Peter Ward, USGS. Additional material came from On Shaky Ground: Living with Earthquakes on the North Coast, by Lori Dengler and Kathy Moley, Humboldt State University. This pamphlet was prepared by the Alaska Earthquake Information Center (AEIC), the University of Alaska Fairbanks Geophysical Institute (GI-UAF), and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Department of the Interior, in cooperation with the Alaska Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM), Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (ADGGS), NOAA West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center (WC/ATWC), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security. Additional funding provided by the Conoco Philips Company. The pamphlet was written and compiled by Peter Haeussler (USGS), Roger Hansen (AEIC), Rod Combellick (ADGGS), Paul Whitmore (WC/ATWC), and Tom Smayda (DHS&EM). Layout and design by Deborah Coccia Manning, Digital Design Center, GI-UAF. Editing by James Roush, AEIC. Photographs from the Karl V. Steinbrugge Collection of the Earthquake Engineering Research Center are provided courtesy of the National Information Service for Earthquake Engineering, University of California Berkeley.
