The “Sharjah Breast Care Centre” is the result of an agreement between Gustave Roussy Cancer Centre in Paris, Pink Caravan & University Hospital Sharjah, which were willing to instigate and develop a multidisciplinary “Breast Cancer Unit”. Its aims are to improve breast cancer prevention, favor early screening and improve patient’s outcome after treatment. The objectives of the Centre are: Fast diagnosis of the breast disease (benign or malignant) Development of a treatment pathway Breast cancer surgery, including oncoplastic (reconstructive and plastic surgery) The administration of chemotherapy, particularly in the out-patient setting

Sharjah Breast Care Centre is a comprehensive and integrative breast centre exclusively dedicated to the prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. It offers a full array of collaborative services, from initial screenings and diagnosis to innovative treatment and supportive counseling. Patients who have breast complaints will receive services ranging from diagnosis to state-of-the-art treatments related to benign breast conditions or breast cancer. We realize that each person is unique, so our personalized multidisciplinary team approach ensures that you will receive the care that is best for you.

The centre has a diverse team of healthcare professionals led by a breast surgeon and supported by a Medical Oncologist, a Breast Radiologist, Breast Care Specialist Nurses, Physician Assistants, Plastic Surgeons, Psychologists, Physical Therapists and others, as needed.

Physicians at Sharjah Breast Care Centre also evaluate several other breast conditions, including: Abnormal mammograms and new or suspicious lumps Breast cancer risk assessment and family history of breast cancer Enlarged breasts (gynecomastia) in men Noncancerous (benign) breast disease, atypical, ductal and lobular hyperplasia and lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) Other breast problems such as changes in breast skin, nipple discharge, breast infection and breast pain Patient education on preventive measures

Comprehensive screening, rapid diagnosis and treatment for women with all types of conditions of the breast are available at the state-of-the-art facility, conveniently located on the ground oor, near the Emergency Department and easily accessible to the Medical Diagnostic Imaging and.

Sharjah Breast Care Centre contribute to the National Cancer Plan In the United Arab Emirates, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. It represents the second cause of women deaths, with a highest mortality in the 45 - 59 age groups.

Most of the cases are diagnosed at the late stages and therefore the objective is to reduce the incidence of cancer and cancer deaths by 60% by the year 2025. Women should undergo regular screening in order to detect the disease at its earliest stage of development.

We recommend that all women above 40, or younger women with a family history of breast cancer should have regular screening.

Sharjah Breast Care Centre is a multidisciplinary centre which proposes a coordinated patient pathway care for all breast diseases and at all stages

women will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Breast Self Examination helps you detect it early with a survival rate up to 98%.

Presentation of the Patient Pathway Model Sharjah Breast Care Centre SCREENING We provide a short-term, state of the art breast screening unit using clinical examination, mammogram and or ultrasound. High-risk women can be proposed speciďŹ c screening programs as recommended in international guidelines.

DIAGNOSIS We provide state of the art diagnostic technologies (imaging, pathology and biology).

MULTIDISCIPLINARY DECISIONS ON PATIENTS TREATMENTS In case of breast cancer diagnosis, our multidisciplinary team discusses together the best appropriate treatment course for each patient including: Surgery including oncoplastic and reconstructive plastic surgery, as well as sentinel node biopsy Medical treatments including chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, antibodies, as required Radiation therapy

BREAST CANCER SURGERY We perform all procedures of breast surgery including: Breast conservative surgery and sentinel lymph node dissection Oncoplastic surgery in order not to distort shape of breast Prosthetic or autologous breast reconstruction Correction of aesthetic and functional sequelae of breast surgery

A Multidisciplinary Team at UHS fellowship training in cardiovascular surgery with Dr DeBakey at the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.

He then obtained his American Board Certification in General Surgery and went to complete certification in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in 1990.

Dr. Toufik Tabbara

MD, American Board of Surgery Certified, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery Certified, Breast Cancer Surgeon, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) Consultant General Surgeon

QUALIFICATIONS Dr. Tabbara graduated in 1977 from the Aleppo Medical School, Syria. He then pursued his surgical residency training in Huron Road Hospital, Cleveland and Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Dr. Tabbara is highly experienced in almost all major and minor surgical procedures and has managed all kinds of surgical emergencies.

Dr Tabbara is well versed in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) procedures, endocrine operations (conventional and video assisted), breast surgery, visceral surgery (gastro intestinal and colorectal operations), hernia repair, bile duct reconstruction operations, anorectal procedures, and emergency procedures, among other surgeries. He undertakes both diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

He established the department of surgery from the start in Mississippi, USA and was responsible for planning and development of surgery theaters at Al Mafraq hospital Abu Dhabi & Annapolis Hospital Michigan, USA. He has served as a Senior Lecturer at Ajman Gulf Medical School and contributed to the surgical program coordination and development of surgical curriculum for undergraduates and residents in the UAE in the College of Medicine and the College of Health Sciences, University Hospital Sharjah UAE.

EXPERIENCE Dr. Obaideen is a Consultant Radiologist and French board certified with 25 years of experience in the field of Radiology and Imaging.

SPECIAL INTEREST Dr. Tabbara is a Canadian national, American Board Certified general surgeon with 30 years of extensive experience in surgery with a special interest in Advanced Laparoscopic surgery including colon, gastric, esophageal, adrenal… (Over 20 years’ experience) and in breast cancer patient management including Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy and oncoplastic surgery following partial mastectomy.

He also specializes in state of the art outpatient management of varicose veins using radiofrequency closure of veins and sclerotherapy and painless management of benign anal diseases such as hemorrhoids.

Prior to joining University Hospital Sharjah (UHS), Dr. Obaideen was a Director of Radiodiagnostics and Medical Imaging in North West Armed Force Hospital – a 600 bedded hospital in Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other hospitals across Saudi Arabia and France.

QUALIFICATIONS Dr. Obaideen graduated from Aleppo University, Syria in 1981. He completed his DIS of Radiodiagnostics “French Board” from Jean Monnet University, St. Etienne Academy of Lyon, France.

He is also an Associate professor of Radiology

Dr. Obaideen is a member of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties – Consultant Radiologist, Radiological Society of Saudi Arabic, Radiological Society of North America and European Society of Radiology.

Dr. Obaideen has published his work in international journals and presented his experience in several local and international radiology conferences. He is also a reviewer for the most famous journal of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

A Multidisciplinary Team at UHS University of Turku, Finland, focusing on Prognostic and Predictive Markers in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.

He lately completed his Fellowship from Royal College of Physician. (FRCP-UK).

EXPERIENCE Dr. Riyad has been a practicing medical oncologist in UAE since 2013 onwards.

Previous clinical placements include the consultant of Medical Oncology at the Medical Oncology unit, Department of Medicine, Benghazi Medical Centre, Benghazi, Libya and Medical Oncology specialist at Department of Oncology & Radiotherapy, Turku University Hospital, Turku, Finland, where he initially started as Oncology Resident.

He is an active member of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), a member European Society of Digestive Oncology (ESDO), an active member of the European School of Oncology (ESO), member of Finnish Medical Society (Duodecim) and a member of the

European Association of Cancer Research (EACR).

Beside his academic involvement in teaching, he is also in the editorial board of various international peer review journals including: World Journal Of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
