Woman regains vision after 20 year darkness It took a decade for Sharjah resident Nidhal to drive out the unexpected darkness that came into her life after a surgery. When Nidhal was just 25, she had undergone a cataract surgery, which eventually led to vision loss. She was even told by doctors that she had to remain in darkness for life. Now at 45, the world is back to Nidhal in rich hues, and she could even drive without any strain to her eyes, thanks to University Hospital Sharjah (UHS).

Dr Qasem Alhammouri, UHS consultant opthalmologist, spoke of the procedures success: "This painless surgery required only 15-minutes to perform and allowed her to see clearly again."This operation helped clear the extensive mass of fibers and membranes around her lens, despite Mrs Nidhal being informed by two doctors that nothing could be done about her loss of vision and that laser surgery would not help."

Department of Medical Diagnostic Imaging UHS offers the most comprehensive range of state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and treatment tools. The Department of Radiology offers a comprehensive range of highly sophisticated diagnostic and interventional procedures including 128 Slice CT Scan, 1.5 tesla MRI, 3D and 4D Ultra Sonography, Colour Doppler, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Digital X-ray and Fluoroscopy (IVU, MCU and Barium Studies).

University Hospital Sharjah and Air Arabia sign a service level agreement University Hospital Sharjah has signed a Service Level Agreement with Air Arabia outlining a broad framework for healthcare services and education for the airline’s staff. As part of the agreement, the hospital will determine the primary, secondary and tertiary care needs of the staff and dependents and make referrals to the relevant specialists, as needed.

Coffee morning at UHS University Hospital Sharjah is organizing a Coffee Morning session, twice a month for all its doctors, nurses and other allied healthcare professional to provide with up-to-date, clinically relevant, scientifically rigorous, evidence-based medical information and training using educationally sound principles and formats in order to promote excellence in all aspects of medical care and coordination, patient safety, and the effective use of resources. UHS opens new ICU unit for longer-stay patient’s Interventional Cardiac catherisation suite to open in September

University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) has opened a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the second floor for critical patients who need to stay on ventilation for a longer period of time. These patients will be moved to the new Unit, named ICU B, from ICU A or the wards, where they were previously managed. ICU B has six special beds, as well as waiting areas for male and female family members of the patients. Opened on Sunday, 16 August, it has been designed specifically to cater for the needs of longer term patients, to maximize their comfort, personal attention and improve treatment.

As a result, ICU A will now have more beds available to manage acute patients, including cardiac patients, when the new Interventional cardiac catherisation suite opens in early September. Prof.

Hakam Yaseen, Medical Director, UHS said; “It is imperative that longer-term patients receive the specialist care and attention they require to maximise the efficacy of their treatment. UHS’s new Intensive Care Unit, ICU B, has been designed specifically to meet these needs. It also increases the availability of beds in ICU A, ensuring we have the capacity to treat a greater number of acute patients – which will become even more important with the opening of the new Interventional cardiac catherisation suite next month.”
