What is PARKINSON’S Disease? The World Parkinson’s awareness month will be celebrated on the 11th April 2017 in commemoration of the day of birth of Dr. James Parkinson, the English physician who first described the disease in his published article entitled, “An Essay of the Shaking Palsy”. This aims to promote better understanding of how this complex condition entails individualized care to improve the quality of life of the patients and their family.
The red tulip is the symbol of World Parkinson’s Disease day. In 1980, A Dutch horticulturist named J.W.S Van der Wereld, who had Parkinson’s disease, cultivated a red and white tulip and named the flower as the Dr. James Parkinson' tulip. It was on April 11, 2005 that the red tulip was launched as the official symbol of Parkinson’s Disease worldwide.
