Because of you, 6,771 students received Co-op Course Material Scholarships this year. Thank you – many students have shared that this has been a game-changer for them as they come to UT to change the world. You are helping students change the world.
Looking forward to the upcoming academic year, we are excited to fund more scholarships, to introduce ourselves to the SEC, and introduce you to our renovated store and shopping experience! This spring we have focused on making needed up dates and changes to our store to improve the shopping experience and generate more funds to go to course material scholarships. ABOUT US
HISTORY
Founded in 1896, The Co-op’s original mission was to address the rising cost of course materials for Longhorn students.
Staying true to our original mission and vision set by the Co-op Founder & President and future University of Texas President, Dr. William J. Battle, today we envision a world in which the cost of course materials never prevents a single student from attending or graduating from The University of Texas at Austin.
While many college bookstore are operated by for-profit corperations, the University Co-op is an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit and operated by a board of directors comprised of students, faculty, and staff at the University of Texas at Austin.
Today, 6,771 students have received Co-op course material scholarships with many more to come!
Our retail store is the economic engine for our not-for-profit mission and every penny of profit goes directly to course material scholarships for Longhorns.
All of this is possible because of your support, thank you!

COREY MIDDLETON STORIES FROM OUR TEAM
What is your fondest memory of the Co-op?
Having a chance to meet countless students, student-employees, and diehard fans has been some of the best interactions during my time while here at the Co-op.
How have you seen the Co-op change since you started here?
So many changes over the years with the Co-op, externally and internally, which includes building moves, various department iterations, and leadership changes. We’ve completely changed how well-informed employees are about the store’s dynamics whether it’s positive or negative. The mission of the Co-op is defined where all employees have an understanding of what the store wants to convey to the UT, the community, and all those who support the Co-op. Being an alum is definitely special to be a part of the giving back to the students and to see how much of an impact on saving them money has been accomplished through the scholarship programs provided by the Co-op and UT for Me – Powered by Dell Scholars.
What is one thing that you’re excited about for the future of the Co-op?
The future can be summed up pretty easily... SEC. Being here for the new store updates to make us the best place to shop for the best university is extremely exciting. I can’t wait to see everyone wanting to visit and shop here as UT and the Co-op venture into what’s considered the best conference.

What do you do in your internship?
As a buying intern, I complete projects assigned to me by the buyers which help support the department. Some of these projects include building item matrixes, creating purchase orders, and using Excel to input product information. These are only some of the things I’m tasked with but they’ve all been integral to my professional growth.
What’s been your favorite part about the internship?
My favorite part of the internship is being able to work with so many different people, not limited to just my department. I love being able to collaborate on different things or even just sit in on vendor meetings and be able to contribute my own thoughts on the products.
How do you feel the internship has set you
This internship has given me the opportunity to deep-dive into the world of buying/merchandising in the retail world. I was able to have ownership of my own projects and also be given tasks which actual assistant buyers in the industry would accomplish.
Would you recommend the intership to another student and If yes, why?
Yes, I would recommend it because you get to have the opportunity to learn so much about the field you’re interested in! This internship offers a flexibility that not a lot of other internships provide whether it be through hours or being ork with other departments that interest you There’s a lot of opportunities for growth here!
