Intended for utilization by current and prospective university aviation students, their parents, and faculty, this catalog meticulously outlines application procedures for over 200 distinct scholarship awards, the combined monetary value of which exceeds one million dollars. The Freedom of Flight Scholarship was established to honor Dr. DeVore for his contributions to aviation at the local and national levels. His interests have been in promoting aviation education for our youth and providing them with opportunities to enter into dynamic and rewarding careers in aviation.

Scholarship Criteria This scholarship is available to students pursuing an aviationrelated major at both community colleges and universities.

Applicants must be admitted to, and currently undertaking, their major while maintaining a minimum 3.0 overall GPA (on a 4.0 scale). The scholarship is open to students entering or currently enrolled in undergraduate (Freshman through Senior) or graduate collegiate aviation programs, provided the institution is a University Aviation Association (UAA) member with a Part 141 approved program. Enrollment must be active when the award is disbursed. Required application materials include a personal essay (250–750 words) that demonstrates a love for aviation and a commitment to flight training, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member at a UAA member institution. Extracurricular and community involvement may also be considered.

Description The University Aviation Association annually awards a $500 scholarship to applicants who are enrolled in an aviationrelated curriculum at a UAA member college or university, and have achieved sophomore status at the institution. The award will be made to U.S. Citizens without regard to gender, race, religion, or national origin.

Description The Frasca family established this scholarship through the University Aviation Association (UAA) in the name of their son, Joseph Frasca. Joseph excelled as an undergraduate aviation student earning a reputation as a dedicated and competent scholar. His tireless efforts to promote and support aviation resulted in significant worldwide contributions to the industry and his abilities as an aerobatic pilot and ambassador of aviation provided many hours of enjoyment to thousands of people. He was indefatigable in reaching the highest standards of performance and achievement in every challenge he faced.

Scholarship Criteria This award is exclusively available to U.S. Citizens, with selection made without regard to gender, race, religion, or national origin. The core requirement is current enrollment in, and a plan to continue, a college curriculum leading to an aviation-focused two-year, four-year, or post-graduate degree. Applicants must be officially enrolled in an aviationrelated program at a UAA member institution and must include the institution’s UAA number on their application.

To qualify, candidates must demonstrate a strong academic record, having completed 30 or more credit hours (Sophomore equivalent) at the UAA institution, and must maintain a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; these criteria have no exceptions. The application package must also include a 250-word, typed, doublespaced essay on the prompt, “How Can I Improve Aviation Education,” which should be direct and topical. Proof of enrollment will be mandatory prior to the final distribution of the award funds.

Aim of Scholarship The Joseph Frasca Excellence in Aviation Scholarship was established through the University Aviation Association to encourage others to reach the highest level of achievement in their aviation studies and awards $2,000. It is bestowed upon those who demonstrate a commitment and devotion to aviation in the tradition of Joseph Frasca.

Scholarship Criteria This prestigious aviation scholarship recognizes exceptional individuals dedicated to a future in aviation. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate a sustained commitment to excellence in the field, both academically and practically. This commitment should be clearly evident through several avenues, including consistently outstanding performance in aviation-related coursework, active and meaningful engagement in relevant extracurricular activities such as aviation clubs or flight teams, and demonstrable participation in significant aviation events and recognized organizations. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required to ensure a strong foundation of academic proficiency. Furthermore, applicants must hold a valid and current FAA certification or qualification, specifically within either aviation maintenance or flight operations, showcasing a tangible and practical level of professional skill and a commitment to hands-on experience.

Membership in an aviation-related association or professional group such as the UAA. Selection Process A selection committee composed of experienced aviation industry professionals will review all submitted applications.

The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be chosen based on a comprehensive assessment across the following key criteria: • Academic Excellence: Evaluation of educational achievement and scholastic record.

• Aviation/Space Passion: Evidence of a strong, demonstrated commitment to the fields of aviation and space.

• F inancial Need: Consideration of the applicant’s financial circumstances.

• Leadership Qualities: Assessment of potential for future leadership roles.

• Community Engagement: Review of involvement in volunteer work and community service.

Scholarship Criteria A student does not need to be a member of the Vertical Flight Society, but we encourage you to explore the many benefits student membership can provide. Technical disciplines relevant to complex aeronautics engineering or aviation systems, even if not considered, vertical lift engineering will receive equal consideration. There is no military service commitment or obligation, nor does program completion justify acceptance to military service.

To accomplish this, applicants must include a rotation of three (3) week segments every day; which include flight simulator time, academic classroom time (white board and lecture lesson style), and flight time. The students will be assigned into flights and be assigned a wingman within that flight, to study and fly with throughout their time during the program. When students aren’t in structured flight time, the additional hours of the day will be filled with mentorship with their flight commanders and other staff, studying to prepare for the next day, character development, and supplemental “tips and tricks”. Tips and tricks include chair flying, Emergency Procedure practice, and how to conduct “stand ups” to name a few. (Stand ups are the daily briefs conducted by aviators to inform members about daily weather, any NOTAMs, and can include an EP and other relevant information).

Description Don and Carol Bedford were a team. Don had earned his Airframe and Power License and was well on the way to a degree in aeronautical engineering, when he felt urge to join the workforce at Lockheed Aircraft at the outbreak of WWII. Don later joined the Army Air Corps where he eventually joined the Aviation Cadet program. He was transitioning to fighters when the war ended. He returned to Lockheed where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Tony LeVere, Howard Hughes, and worked on the P-80 program. In 1947, Don took a job with Alaska Coastal Airlines in Juneau. He stayed through a series of mergers, to retire from Alaska Airlines in 1993. Carol was from the Chicago area where she attended business school. She traveled to Alaska on a whim, and took a job at Alaska Airlines where the two met.

Description The Aim High Flight Academy (AHFA) is an aviation scholarship for a three (3) week introductory flight program at various universities across the world. All expenses are paid for by the U.S. Air Force!

The mission of the AHFA is to inform, influence, and inspire the next generation of aviators and leaders. After completion of the AHFA, students will understand the pathways to become an Air Force officer, aviator, and earn up to 15 flight hours.

AHFA pairs high school students, USAFA, and AFROTC cadets with current Air Force members who provide mentorship about the various aviation professions and career fields.

Scholarship Criteria Applicants must: Be between the ages of 16 and 23; Be a full-time student in High School, College, or an enlisted member of any service enrolled in school fulltime; Understand they are volunteering for a scholarship to a public flight school contracted by the United States Air Force. College applicants must be currently enrolled in AFROTC or the United States Air Force Academy to be qualified. There is no military service commitment or obligation, nor does program completion justify acceptance to military service.

To accomplish this, applicants must include a rotation of three (3) week segments every day; which include flight simulator time, academic classroom time (white board and lecture lesson style), and flight time. The students will be assigned into flights and be assigned a wingman within that flight, to study and fly with throughout their time during the program. When students aren’t in structured flight time, the additional hours of the day will be filled with mentorship with their flight commanders and other staff, studying to prepare for the next day, character development, and supplemental “tips and tricks”. Tips and tricks include chair flying, Emergency Procedure practice, and how to conduct “stand ups” to name a few. (Stand ups are the daily briefs conducted by aviators to inform members about daily weather, any NOTAMs, and can include an EP and other relevant information).

Description Sponsored by FlightSafety International, this scholarship is awarded to a Whirly-Girl who possesses at least a private pilot helicopter certificate and has landing currency in helicopters. Scholarship available for a female student attending PIA’s main campus in West Mifflin, PA. For a newly registered student whose training at PIA has not yet commenced, the per term award will begin with first term of study in which the student is enrolled on a full-time basis. For scholarship recipients who have already begun their studies at PIA, the per term award will commence with next com- plete academic term in which the student is enrolled following the date of the award. In an effort to carry out its mission that women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men, Zonta International offers the Amelia Earhart Fellowship.

Scholarship Criteria Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree, who demonstrate a superior academic record conducting research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences are eligible. It is imperative that students be registered in a full-time Ph.D./doctoral program and have completed at least one (1) year of that program or have received a master’s degree in an aerospace-applied field at the time the application is submitted.

UAA TIPS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR BEST APPLICATION • Read the requirements and follow all directions paying attention to the details.

• If a certified transcript is required – be sure it is certified.

• Write a great essay AND keep essays within the specified word count.

• Don’t miss the deadline and start early.

• Make sure your application package is complete and ALL requested material is included. Incomplete application will not be reviewed.

• Do not include things that are not requested in the application – i.e. photos, videos, etc.

• Proofread and review thoroughly before submission and having a mentor review for completeness prior to submission.

• Don’t ignore small awards. Small awards can add up. Plus, the larger the award, the more competition you’ll face.
