The Monday Muse is a weekly Graduate and International Student newsletter sent to your inbox every Monday. The Monday Muse covers various topics, such as upcoming events announcements, safety guidelines, and much more.
Graduate Student Council (GSC)
GSC is a student-run governing body dedicated to being your advocate and voice. GSC also works with OGISL and other graduate and hybrid Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) to plan professional, cultural, and social events.
Campus Connectors
The Campus Connector Program provides new international students with strong support during their transition to both the United States and the University of New Haven. As a true mentor-mentee program, Campus Connectors play a crucial role in fostering a sense of community with our students and assisting our students in having a transformative and collaborative experience at the University of New Haven.

Ifest is an annual event celebrating the university community and showcasing diverse culture, food and performances
International Education Week (IEW)
Hosted annually in November, OGISL collaborates with cultural RSOs to celebrate the diverse cultures on campus. If you want to include an event, contact OGISL to propose an event idea before October 1.
Graduate Student Appreciation Week (GAW)
Hosted annually in the spring, OGISL celebrates our graduate students with popular events such as the Graduate Student Showcase, pizza crawl, paint-n-sip, comedy show, a trip to New York City to see a Broadway show, and much more!

GRADUATE STUDENT COUNCIL
The purpose of the Graduate Student Council (GSC) is to advocate and promote the welfare of the student body of the Graduate School, to engage the active participation of all graduate students in the determination of their academic environment, to develop and encourage a school spirit among the graduate student body through social and other activities, and to convey student opinion to the university administration. The Graduate Student Council annually elects one of its members to serve as a delegate to the University’s Board of Governors.

Tutoring & Academic Support Center (TASC) is the main tutoring center on campus, located on the lower level of Marvin K. Peterson Library. Tutoring is free to all students and is available in person and via Zoom throughout the day and on weekends.
The CLR is a past recipient of the Tutoring Program of Excellence Award from the Association of Tutoring Professionals. For more information, students can visit CLR on myCharger (login required).

The Marvin K. Peterson Library includes three floors of quiet study space, an Information Commons, the Charger Café, group study rooms, comfortable seating, stacks and reference areas, eight iMacs, 71 desktop and 10 laptop computers, four iPads, four high-speed black and white printers, a color printer, and two full-color scanners. Wireless networking is available in all areas of the library.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LIAISON TEAM

The International Student Liaisons (ISLs) for The Office of Graduate and International Student Life are responsible for assisting with all aspects of onboarding, cultural, and academic support for our international student population. ISL’s will offer support for the planning and implementation of professional development, training workshops, and expanding students’ Competency Learning Experience via programs for international students. The ISLs will evaluate the needs of graduate and international students through assessments with data analysis and the use of UNewHaven’s information systems (such as Navigate and Canvas). The main areas of support the ISLs provide for our students are Academics, Cultural, and Social Support.

The Dean of Students Office provides opportunities and experiences that foster student learning and personal development. DOS assists students with issues impacting their academic pursuits and their personal life.
THE CAMPUS ASSESSMENT, RESPONSE & EDUCATION (CARE) TEAM engages in proactive and collaborative approaches to identify, assess, and connect with students needing support by partnering with faculty and staff. The Dean of Students Office facilitates the CARE Team with representatives from Student Services, Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs.
ONLINE EDUCATION REQUIREMENT To help create a safe environment for students, the University of New Haven, through the Dean of Students Office, requires all incoming students to complete online education modules for sexual assault and alcohol education. The University will send invitations to complete these courses before students arrive on campus, and they are due to be completed before the semester’s start.

At ChargerREC, we support student well-being by providing opportunities for stress relief, social connections, skill building, and play. You’ll find a variety of options for staying active, including drop-in informal recreation on courts, equipment for strength training, cardio machines, and an indoor track. Additionally, we offer GroupX fitness classes, special events, and collaborative programs with other student service offices to help students feel better and have the energy to succeed in the classroom. To get started, students must activate a membership and bring their student ID card whenever they plan to use the facility or attend programs. The Career Development Center provides complete career development services, resources, programs, and guidance to students. It focuses on educating students on potential major and career options; connecting them with resources for learning about careers; preparing students for experiential opportunities; helping them learn from and leverage their experience into marketable skills; and guiding them through the internship, job, and graduate school process.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides free, confidential consultation and counseling for a variety of mental health concerns. The center is staffed by licensed clinical staff who provide confidential individual and group therapy and 24/7 crisis intervention. CAPS works closely with the Student Health Center on student mental health concerns and with external communitybased organizations for psychiatric services. Students’ insurance is required for students seeking off-campus services campus.

The Nicholson Health Center primarily provides on-campus medical care for student illness or injury cases. Clinicians from Hartford Healthcare, oversee on-site medical care. All students will receive a notification with instructions to set up a MyChart Account. The Health Center is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with select Saturday hours. Students can make an appointment by logging into MyCharger or calling the office at 203.932.7079. Domestic students who are out of state must check with their insurance carrier to ensure that their insurance will be accepted in the state of Connecticut.

The Office of Information Technology coordinates all computing, networking, and telecommunication services for all constituents of the University community. The department is organized into several subcomponents to provide service-specific assistance. For new students, this includes Campus Card and the myCharger Portal.
MEDITATION & SPIRITUALITY CENTER

Open to all campus community members (entry with Campus ID Card), the Meditation & Spirituality Center provides students, faculty, and staff of all faiths and beliefs with use of the space in a manner that reflects the best that their religious or spiritual tradition has to offer the campus community. There is a dedicated space for community members of the Muslim faith, including separate prayer rooms for men and women, and foot-washing stations for convenient ritual washing. The Office of University Immigration Services (UIS) provides document services and visa advising to the university’s diverse international student and scholar population throughout their visa status life cycle, from the issuance of the I-20 or DS-2019 until the end of post-program periods of practical training. UIS helps navigate compliance to complex visa regulations and serves the immigration needs of F-1 and J-1 students and scholars, their dependents, and other nonimmigrant visa holders who seek advice.
