he best place to start when deciding an organization needs training solutions is to understand the business and individual needs that underlie the training initiative. This requires defining the business drivers for training program development and the organizational results needed or desired.

Once that initial, critical first step has been taken, instructional design models and learning theories enter the picture to provide a systematic approach (or plan) to help instructional designers craft effective and efficient training solutions that meet organizational and individual needs. These plans are referred to as instructional systems design (ISD) models.
