Dear Parents, Guardians, and Unitians,
Welcome to the 25th Anniversary Edition of our Term 2 Newsletter! As we celebrate our school’s silver jubilee, we reflect on our beginnings and the journey that has brought us here. Since its inception in 2000, Unity has been committed to providing a holistic education for all students. Under the leadership of our First Principal, Mr. N Satianathan, the school laid a strong foundation, offering ample opportunities for students to develop into visionary leaders anchored in integrity.
In those early years, students played a pivotal role in designing the school motto, uniform, badge, and song, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie. The strong leadership of my four predecessors — Mr. N Satianathan, Ms. Tan Siew Piang, Mr. Chan Ying Yin, and Mdm Aini — has been instrumental in nurturing the holistic development of our students. It is my honour to continue this legacy, striving to further develop Unity Secondary into a School of Opportunity, where students lead themselves, serve others, actualize their potential, and inspire those around them.
Our guiding philopsophy, “Every Unitian is Unique, has Potential and can be an Inspiration” continues to drive us as we create opportunities for our students to act independently and take an active role in shaping their educational experiences at Unity.
This year, we have abundant reasons to celebrate as we commemorate our numerous achievements and firsts.
In April 2024, Singapore hosted the 14th International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) for the first time. Jointly organised by the Singapore Ministry of Education, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the global teacher union Education International, this summit brought together education ministers, union leaders, and teacher leaders from high-performing and rapidly improving education systems.
We were deeply honoured to be selected by MOE as one of the schools to host the delegates on Day 2 of their visit, focusing on the topic of “The Role of Technology in Transforming Education”. At Unity, we actively integrate technology into our teaching and learning practices, employing Active Learning pedagogy to engage our learners. The delegates praised our systemic approach to leveraging technology to accelerate learning.
As the School of Opportunity, dedicated to creating and seizing opportunities for our Unitians to become lifelong learners and inspiring leaders, we take great pride in the achievements of our students. Our Unitians have excelled in holistic and leadership development, reaching new heights in the 2023 Singapore Youth Festival Competitions, earning 4 Distinctions and 1 Accomplishment across our 5 Performing Arts Groups. Our Uniformed Groups also delivered exceptional performances, securing 4 Gold or Distinction and 1 Silver Award in their respective Unit Proficiency Awards.
Renowned for our basketball prowess, our teams have consistently brought honour to our school at the National School Games. Last semester, our 'B' Division Basketball team fought valiantly, securing 4th place in the competition, adding another accolade to our basketball legacy.
Continuing our spirit of exploration and innovation, three Sec 2 Higher Chinese students achieved 3rd place in the recent Young Reporters News Challenge, surpassing over 500 students from 53 secondary schools, a testament to their linguistic and journalistic talent.
At Unity Secondary, we intentionally seize and create opportunities to develop 21st-century competencies in our students. Our teachers serve as role models to deepen their teaching and learning practices and they meet bi-weekly in their professional learning teams to engage in collective inquiry and learning process to hone their craft.
Indeed, we would not have come this far without the support from our parents, School Advisory Committee Members, Parent Support Group, Alumni and Partners who serve as our cheerleaders and active supporters in all our endeavours. Thank you for standing by us every step of the way.
Warm regards, Mdm. Adel Ong Principal, Unity Secondary School

During our 25th Anniversary celebration and Awards Week 2024, we honoured outstanding Unitians from the 2023 batch of Secondary 1 to 5 students, who excelled in their subjects in the endof-year and GCE Examinations 2023. These students have made us all proud, and they serve as exemplary role models for the rest of us to emulate throughout the year. We also celebrated allround excellence and outstanding achievements of our fellow Unitians!
The CCA Boys Brigade has woven a tapestry of impact, not only for the students but also for us parents.
Their thoughtfulness — inviting parents to involve into children’s CCA, helping our children don their first badges, and capturing precious memories through photographs — have left an indelible mark. Unity Secondary School — a haven where students are allowed to make mistakes, where teachers (and BB officers) are very tolerant and patient with their unpolished skills, and where perseverance is celebrated. Love and care permeate the halls, nurturing growth and resilience.
Teachers at Unity are different from those in other schools — full of love and caring. Thank you for creating an environment at Unity Secondary School where children can learn, grow, and find joy in their education. The balanced and nurturing atmosphere, along with caring teachers dedicated to character development and academic learning, makes Unity truly special. Unity Secondary School, yo n a school; you are the cradle of character, sh ds into better individuals. We value you.
