PEACOCK LEGACY SOCIETY “I joined the United Way Board in 2014 and quickly became familiar with just how vital the Alexis de Tocqueville and other Leadership Societies are to our campaign each year. It was evident that we needed to develop a strategy for ensuring United Way’s sustainability for future generations. In 2015 at the Peacock Palooza, I was honored to announce the launch of United Way’s Peacock Legacy Society. In just a few weeks, $2 million in seed funds were pledged with a focus on allowing Tocqueville members to endow their annual gift in perpetuity and corporations to deepen their support beyond the annual campaign.” – Ken Jackson, United Way Endowment Chair & EVP-CFO at Shaw Industries

VOLUNTEER C E N T E R UNITED WAY VOLUNTEER CENTER 2015 In total, United Way mobilized 4,013 volunteers who gave 41,170 hours of service in 2015. This represents an impact of $957,614 to our community.

United Way Volunteer Center organized 161 hands-on volunteer projects in 2015.

Tandus–Centiva partnered with United Way to host a Day of Service called People of Purpose where 58 volunteers gave 340 hours of service.

BOARDWALK, our board service training program, trained 27 volunteers this year and has provided 320 trained board members to area non-profits since the program’s inception.

Make a Difference Day, sponsored by Brown Industries, mobilized 843 volunteers this year, who gave 3,017 hours of service.

Shaw Industries partnered with United Way to host their LIVE UNITED Week of Service which mobilized 883 Shaw associates who volunteered for 99 projects, giving 4,124 hours of service.

2015 VOLUNTEER AWARD WINNERS Annually, United Way recognizes outstanding volunteer service through the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards, The Connie Woodward Award, and the Elaine Butler Award. Starting in 2014, Shaw Industries partnered with United Way to present two $5,000 Elbert Shaw Memorial Scholarships to area juniors and seniors in high school.

Tim Ausmus (Chair) and members of the United Way Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) are committed to expanding the capacity of non-profits and schools through the Volunteer Center. The CVC is leading this effort by connecting employees, families, churches, and students to service opportunities and organized projects.
