Impact of our 2021 Community Grants

4,245 Children & Teens Kids have a safe and affordable place to go after school and on school breaks at the Boys & Girls Club of Denison and the Boys & Girls Club of Sherman. During their time at the Club or their school site, they receive homework help, a snack, and programming on important life lessons.

The #6 highest need in our community is childcare.

1,186 Housing & Life transformation program participants Programs that provide housing and life transforming counseling and skill building include Texoma Family Shelter, House of Eli, Four Rivers Outreach, and Habitat for Humanity. Affordable housing is the number 1 community in Grayson County.

4,932 Heathcare & Counseling Servies Addressing the #5 top need in our community, access to medical and mental healthcare, are a network of our agency partners. Organizations providing these services to adults and adolescents alike are the Rehabilitation Center, Greater Texoma Health Clinic, Child & Family Guidance Center, Home Hospice, and Women Rock.

14,507 Crisis Services When the worst happens, it's important to have established agencies there to help you navigate the system. The Grayson Crisis Center, the Grayson County Children's Advocacy Center, and CASA do a tremendous job working with our at-risk adults and children, as well as providing prevention efforts for the community as well.

New UWGC Initiatives

What started in 2020 but was quickly put on hold by COVID, was the beginning of a program to create a literary-rich community.

In 2021, 444 books were donated in local libraries in the genre of diversity, equity and inclusion. A partnership with local libraries has also brought fruitful conversations and collaborations.

Seeing an alarming trend of childhood poverty in our community, prompted UWGC to start the Tiny Toes program.

Using a Community Navigator, we accept referrals and conduct home visits that connect parents with community resources and guide them with the hands-on skills they need to help their child and themselves succeeds in school, work, and life.

Notable accomplishments for 2021 $254,000 Raised for local Winter Storm Relief.

Distribution of water, blankets, diapers, and food followed the devasting storm in February 2021. Funds raises were used to assist neighbors with critical home repairs caused by the storm.

Community wide support of our first Day of Kindness, June 21st Engaged 8 High School teens in our Summer Philanthropy Internship, leading to two student ambassadors serving on our Board of Directors
