Tell us about a pivotal moment or person that shaped your faith journey.
As I have gone from grace to grace, my faith journey has been shaped by many pivotal moments. During my childhood and adolescence, my uncle served as both pastor and mentor. He gave me opportunities to preach, lead in worship and evangelize. During my time as a graduate student at Wheaton College, Dr. Lois LeBar was influential in my formation. She was a master teacher who inspired me to pursue teaching in higher education. My mother-in-law was a Spiritfilled lay woman who, much like Susanna Wesley, taught a large Bible Study group. She was a woman of prayer and discernment.
What are you most excited about in coming to United?
I’m most excited about participating in a community that uniquely blends high academic standards and Spirit-filled life.
What do you like to do for fun?
My husband and I love to camp, hike and flyfish. I also love playing with and spoiling my five grandchildren.
Why did you pick your field of study?
I guess you could say my field of study “picked me.” I love the intersection of theology and the life of the Church, and see myself as a pastor-theologian.
Where do you see signs of hope in the Church today?
I see signs of hope in the vitality of the global Church and expressions of Christianity in the global South. I see signs of hope at United.
Is there a Scripture or other resource that you turn to when you need hope?
Through the years I’ve found life and hope in Psalm 37. It reminds me to “not fret” and to trust in the Lord.
