PT is proud of the men and women who make up our team of professional drivers. We know they are the best the industry has to offer, and we were proven correct in March, when three of our UPT Family members – Carl Andrew, Luis Estrada and Garry Northrup – were nominated for the Oklahoma Trucking Association’s Oklahoma Driver of the Year.

While our guys didn’t take home the top award this year, the fact that one quarter of the nominees came from our company is proof positive that UPT drivers are the best in the business.

Our drivers are the foundation of our company’s success, a fact my father realized more than five decades ago when he founded our company. He knew then, and we know now that the success of the company as a whole is dependent on the success of each individual driver. We hire the best in the industry because we strive to be the best in the industry. But the professional skills of our drivers are just one part of the equation. We must also continue to invest in technology and equipment so that our drivers have the tools necessary to ensure a Seamless Delivery ... every time.

CONTINUED INVESTMENT Delivery of 40 new trucks begins this month, replaces older units Forty new trucks are on their way to UPT, upgrading the company’s fleet and continuing the Price family’s investment into the company they own.

Deliveries of the new trucks will begin this month, with the addition of 20 Freightliners. Another 20 Macks will follow, with the company receiving 16 day cabs and four sleepers from each truck manufacturer.

“We re-introduced Mack’s into our fleet last year, and they’ve proven to be a great addition,” UPT Chief Operating Officer David Price said.

“We look forward to adding even more to our fleet.”

All new trucks in 2020 will replace existing vehicles currently owned by the company, with the older units scheduled to be sold as surplus.

“The new trucks will help us diversify our fleet, give us added flexibility and reduce our maintenance cost by eliminating older models,” Price said.

UPT added Mack Anthems to its fleet in 2019. Another 20 new Macks will be added to the fleet in 2020, along with 20 new Freightligners. Delivery of the new trucks begins this month.

“We’re excited to get them on the road.”

Price said the addition of new trucks this year is part of a longterm strategic plan of continued investment in the company’s fleet.

Top drivers named for first quarter UPT Vice President of Risk Management Joe Hill has announced the Professional Driver of the Quarter Awards for the first quarter of 2020. One driver from each of UPT’s four regions is selected as a Professional Driver of the Quarter based on their accident/incident rates, CSA scorecards, customer service level and positive representation of UPT. For the first quarter of 2020, the winners are: • Northern Region – Carl Thederahn, Oklahoma City • Southern Region – Jesse Turman, San Antonio • Central Region – Tony Mai, Dallas-Fort Worth • Western Region – Jose Velazquez, Albuquerque Congratulations to these four outstanding professional drivers for their hard work and dedication to operating safely each and every day.

“Our professionals drivers are the best in the industry, and they should have the best equipment available,” Price said. “The Price family is committed to investing in our company, today and in the future.”

PERFECT 10 Updated 10 Step Process decals reinforce UPT delivery standards UPT’s Back to Basics program designed to re-emphasize the company’s standard safety practices has left no stone unturned.

In March, UPT trailers received new 10 Step Process decals with updated verbiage and a bright yellow border, making the decals easily visible during the unloading process and ensuring all products are delivered safely and seamlessly.

“The 10 Step Process is UPT’s ten commandments,” said company Vice President of Maintenance and Facilities Tim Gallagher, who spearheaded the creation of new 10 Step decals in conjunction with UPT’s risk management department. “Seamless delivery starts with consistency. Delivering each load the same as the last reduces the chances for preventable accidents that can jeopardize the safety of our drivers and can be costly to our company and our customers.”

Gallagher noted that the updated decals include a significant change to Step 7 of the 10 Step Process driven by feedback from UPT professional drivers. The update now requires that drivers close the API head and then walk hoses to the ground before moving hoses at the ground.

Gallagher said that the revision of Step 7 ensures all product has been delivered, eliminates the possibility of a spill from product left in the hose and is a practice commonly conducted by veteran professional drivers, who suggested making the act a part of the 10-step process.

Oklahoma professional drivers nominated for OTA award Three UPT professional drivers were nominated for the Oklahoma Trucking Association’s Oklahoma Driver of the Year. The winner was announced March 4 during OTA’s Safety Awards Banquet.

Nominated drivers from UPT were: • Carl Andrew, Oklahoma City • Luis Estrada, Oklahoma City • Garry Northrup, Oklahoma City Carl was UPT’s 2018 Professional Driver of the Year. Both Luis and Garry were nominees for UPT’s 2019 Professional Driver of the Year.
