Thank you to all who volunteered their time on Sunday mornings during September to welcome our newcomers, friends and our members. It is important work that we do! The landscape phase of the renovation project is well underway. Many tons of earth were moved to create a water retention basin that will help solve major drainage issues with our neighbors to the north. The earth removed from the foot of the hill helped create a flat area near the new patio that will accommodate our existing playground equipment. We will soon have a fence around the pre-school playground on the west side of the building, accessible from the pre-school classroom. Many helping hands have made these changes possible. Curt Donaldson and Harry Heafer deserve special thanks. Both have contributed innumerable hours to the renovation of the church grounds. Curt has been
tireless in his work on storm drainage, with each major rainfall presenting new problems that he has solved. Harry has attended to a million chores from sourcing landscape materials to repairing equipment. Noreen Carpenter, Betsy Shipley, Duane Polzien, Amy Birky, Debbi Barnes-Josiah, Penny Siefker, Roger Day and Bill Genuchi helped keep this season's weeds under control and/or picked up trash. On a steamy Saturday morning in September, Tim Johnson, George Maly, Kathy Disney, Harry Heafer, Mark Shiffler, Penny Siefker, Mary Sommermeyer, Earl Kramer, Jackie Egan, Patsy Vinogradov, Penny and Rick Urwiler, Bill Genuchi, Debbi Barnes-Josiah, and Priscilla Handy showed up to move several tons of mulch onto the new playground next to the patio. There will be many opportunities to help with the grounds yet this season. We will have additional mulch to spread, and shrubbery and bulbs to plant. Then there are the usual leaves and fallen branches. Our regular Fall clean-up on November 8, 11:30AM1:00PM, will followed by a potluck lunch.
