The Associate Degree of Creative Writing offers a rich mix of creative writing and literary studies across a range of genres in fiction and nonfiction, including life writing, poetry, editing and publishing and writing for young adults. This program is taught by published writers from the Northern Rivers arts community and beyond. It provides opportunities for hands-on experience with the Byron Writers Festival, the Kyogle Writers Festival and other literary events. It can also be a pathway into an Education or Arts degree.

Career opportunities

As a graduate, you could launch a career as a novelist or scriptwriter; a food, nature, arts or travel specialist; feature journalist; critic and reviewer; essayist; poet; editor and publisher; or as a writer in government, corporate marketing and public relations, among other options.

Graduates of the Associate Degree of Creative Writing may also choose to continue to study for a further year and complete their Bachelor of Arts.

Study creative arts as a shared major

You can also study Art and Design, Creative Writing or Digital Media as a shared major in an undergraduate arts, business, Indigenous knowledge, psychological science or science degree. See page 88.
