Majors

If you do not choose a specialisation, you will study a single or double major, choosing from Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics and Physics or Biology. You can also combine one of these majors with a shared major from disciplines across the University (see page 88 for details).

Career opportunities

Career opportunities include natural resource management; consulting as an industry adviser or practitioner; research technician; quality control/quality assurance officer; data analyst or science communicator.

Graduates may also pursue secondary science teaching with further study.

The Diploma of Science will prepare you with a grounding in scientific knowledge and skills and a taste of the many opportunities science provides. You will learn the language and nature of science and mathematics and be able to follow your interests in specific areas of science.

You’ll choose a specialisation to tailor your studies and successful completion of the Diploma will guarantee you entry and up to eight units of credit towards linked specialisations in the Southern Cross Bachelor of Science.

The Diploma of Science is offered through SCU College, which provides students with a highly supported learning environment and extra academic support.

Career opportunities

The Diploma is a pathway to the Bachelor Science with up to eight units of credit, depending on units taken. Graduates of the Diploma of Science may also find work in para-professional roles, including positions as field assistants, laboratory assistants and environmental monitoring officers.
