The Bachelor of Psychological Science provides the first three years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) study and training to prepare you for employment in a range of careers that benefit from knowledge of human psychological factors.

The degree focuses on providing a thorough understanding of the theoretical bases of psychological science, as well as the importance of research and evidence. The course covers analytical skills in solving human, organisational and community-wide problems, core topics such as social psychology, cross-cultural psychology, abnormal psychology, and biological psychology, competency in the design of research and interpretation of research findings and a comprehensive understanding of statistical methods. You can study this course completely online, or with a mix of on-campus and online units.

Career opportunities

This is a pathway to a variety of careers as well as to postgraduate studies in psychology for eligible students.

Psychologists are employed in health, social and disability services, youth services, corrective services, the armed services, research agencies such as the CSIRO and in education. Private industry is also a large employer of psychologists who receive further specialised training for work in management, human resources and corporate consultancy services.

To be eligible for registration as a psychologist, students complete:

Bachelor of Psychological Science + Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours + Master of Professional Psychology = total 5 years academic preparation + 1-year internship

Double degrees

The Bachelor of Psychological Science is also available as a double degree with the Bachelor of Laws (page 61) or the Bachelor of Business and Enterprise (page 23).
