Entry pathway Students with a Diploma of Early Childhood Education receive 8 units advanced standing. Other pathways include the Diploma of Education (see below).

This is a cutting-edge course that draws on the University’s leading research in early childhood education and care. Core units cover early childhood principles and practices, child development theory and application, how to best support children’s learning and pedagogical approaches for early childhood education.

Students will investigate contemporary issues in early childhood education, leadership and management, the arts, and health and wellbeing in the early childhood environment.

Career opportunities

Graduates will be trained Early Childhood teachers with a three-year qualification. Good career prospects exist in early childhood centres, preschools and other early childhood services. The course is accredited by ACECQA, the Australian accrediting authority for early childhood teacher programs. Check requirements in your state or territory for recognition as an early childhood teacher as it varies across jurisdictions.

Diploma of Education

The Diploma of Education is a one-year entry level course that provides students with the opportunity to prepare to study for a professional career pathway in education. The course develops students’ knowledge, skills, and capabilities for further education and can also serve as a pathway to direct employment in various paraprofessional contexts.

Diploma of Education graduates are eligible for entry and up to 8 units of credit towards the Bachelor of Education and the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.

Graduates will be eligible for employment in various paraprofessional contexts, such as teacher support roles and library assistants.
