Manufacturing Process of Crankshaft

The crankshaft is an important component of the engine; it is composed of carbon structural steel or ductile iron and consists of two major components the main journal and the connecting rod neck (and others) The main journal is attached to the cylinder body, and the connecting rod neck is attached to the connecting rod big head hole Atypical crank slider mechanism is the connecting rod's small head hole, which is attached to the cylinder piston

Crankshaft lubrication primarily refers to the lubrication of the connecting rod's big head bearing bush and crankshaft connecting rod neck, as well as the lubrication of two permanent points. The rotation of the crankshaft is the source of power for the engine and the complete mechanical system

Working of the Crankshaft:

The crankshaft is a component in an engine that converts linear motion from the pistons into rotary motion, which is then used to power the wheels of a vehicle or turn a generator in a power plant The crankshaft has a series of offset crank throws, or "crankpins," to which the connecting rods from the pistons attach As the pistons move up and down in the cylinders, the connecting rods cause the crankshaft to rotate This rotation is transmitted through the transmission and drivetrain to turn the wheels of the vehicle or rotate the rotor in a power plant. The crankshaft is typically supported by bearings located in the engine block to minimize friction and wear

Crankshaft Manufacturing Process:

Forging is a process in which a heated piece of steel is shaped under high pressure using a press or hammer The steel is heated to a temperature where it becomes pliable and is then placed into a mold and shaped into the final crankshaft shape This process results in a very strong and durable crankshaft, but it also requires expensive equipment and skilled labor.

Casting is a process in which liquid steel is poured into a mold and allowed to solidify The mold is typically made of sand, and once the steel has solidified, the sand is removed and the crankshaft is cleaned and finished. This process is less expensive than forging, but the resulting crankshaft may not be as strong or durable

Both methods can be used to produce crankshafts of different sizes and shapes. Some crankshaft manufacturing companies also use a combination of both methods to achieve the desired strength and cost efficiency

After the crankshaft is manufactured, it is usually heat treated to increase its strength and durability This is done by heating the crankshaft to a high temperature and then cooling it quickly It then goes through a process of grinding and polishing to make it smooth and ready for installation
