Cons You must be committed from high school Committing to a program at such a young age may be daunting for some students. You are planning out the next 7-8 years of your life and essentially your entire future which may not be something you might not be ready to commit to just yet.

Not many options for flexibility in education This can be seen as a pro or a con as some students like creating their own education pathways and explore different options. However, in a program, you are essentially tied down to the set pathway for all program students.

Programs are difficult Believe it or not, program students are held at a higher standard than regular students. You are expected to be the smartest students who are the best in classes because you were selected for a program for a reason.

List of few colleges offering BS/ combined program : Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (7), Union College (8), Siena College (8) in conjunction with Albany Medical College Description: These three colleges have a joint program with Albany College that lasts for 7 years, 8 years, and 8 years, respectively, as indicated in the parenthesis. Students are only allowed to apply for one of the three program paths. The differences between the schools lie in the main focus of each school.

RPI has a strong focus on science and research, Union has a strong focus on leadership, and Sienna has a strong focus on the humanities, so applicants should apply to the school that matches their focus and experiences. All three undergraduate schools are about twenty minutes from each other.

B oston University in conjunction with Boston University College of Medicine (7) Description: Boston University has a direct 7-year program with Boston University College of Medicine where the first three years are spent at the College of Arts and Sciences followed by matriculation to Boston University College of Medicine. Students are required to maintain a 3.20 GPA and complete a 12 week summer session. Location: Boston, Massachusetts MCAT: At or above the 80th percentile on the four numerically scored sections 3. Penn State in conjunction with Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) College of

Medicine (7) Description: Penn State University has a direct 7-year program with Sidney Kimmel Medical College where the first three years are spent at Penn State, followed by four years at the medical school. Students are required to maintain a 3.50 GPA and score the minimum requirements for the MCAT exam.

Location: Centre County, Pennsylvania MCAT: The current MCAT requirement is a minimum composite score of 504 with no less than a 126 on any subsection of the exam.

New Jersey Institute of Technology, The College of New Jersey, Stevens Institute of echnology, Caldwell University, Drew University, Rutgers-Newark, St. Peter’s niversity in conjunction with New Jersey Medical School (7) Description: These seven colleges have a joint program with New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) that lasts for 7 years as indicated in the parenthesis.

Students are allowed to apply for any and all of these undergraduate schools and there will be two conducted interviews for every undergraduate school. Each undergraduate school will have a preliminary interview where applicants will be filtered out and potential candidate files will be forwarded to NJMS. There, NJMS will conduct their interviews based on their potential candidates and then a decision is made. Location: N JIT: Newark, New Jersey T CNJ: Ewing, New Jersey S Peter’s: Jersey City, New Jersey MCAT: All seven of these programs in relation to NJMS do not require students to take the MCAT. This is a direct program where after the respective 3 years, all students will matriculate to New Jersey Medical School for their remaining 4 years.

Drexel University in conjunction with Drexel University College of Medicine (8) Description: There are some colleges that have an 8-year program instead of a 7-year program, as in the case of Drexel University’s program. This program has students complete 4 years at Drexel followed by matriculation to Drexel University College of Medicine for the remaining 4 years. Students must maintain a 3.60 GPA and score the minimum requirements for the MCAT exam. Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania MCAT: Students must receive a minimum MCAT score of 513, including: 128 or better in chemical and physical foundations of biological systems 127 or better in critical analysis and reasoning skills 128 or better in biological and biochemical foundations of living systems 128 or better in psychological, social, and biological foundations
