The all-new online discovery engine was founded right here in Nottingham. Already featured by some of the UKs leading ‘lads mags’ such as Nuts, Loaded and FHM, the innovative new platform lets its users select a range of categories before they spin, shop and share thousands of the internets coolest products and places in the UK. Launching last month, ‘Spin4’ has turned heads with a huge influx of users which is said to have matched the early stages of social media giant Facebook.

The initial concept for ‘Spin4’ began back in the NTU library whilst the three friends were busy working on their dissertations. After hours of procrastinating (including playing cricket between the book shelves) a light bulb idea struck and the birth of ‘Spin4’ began. The road hasn’t been easy to get to where they are today but it has all been worth it.

Graduate Ball announcement DANIEL ROBBINS Final year at University is synonymous with many things. Whether it is those final great nights out or the dreaded dissertation that leads to all-nighters in the library, final year has it all.

The light at the end of the tunnel is the Graduate Ball, which signals the end to all the work (for now), and especially the acts that will be seeing you out of your University years.

So the final years have been waiting with baited breath to see who will be headlining their last University party and will be happy with the acts that have been announced so far.

The big trio of DJ’s in Fuse ODG, DJ Fresh and Annie Mac will be seeing out the University year in style when the Ball takes place at the Capital FM Arena on Friday June 13.

If that isn’t enough there is still another act to be announced at a later date.

The big acts even got the announcement trending on Twitter throughout the UK with many getting more and more excited as the event draws closer.

University is nearly over for the year (insert fanfare here) and that means that summer is fast-approaching! We are only a few weeks away from late night bonfires on the beach, picnics in the park and other such clichéd summertime activities.

However, for final year students, this summer also signals the last chapter of your university days before you join the illusive ‘real world’, where apparently people wear suits and don’t get drunk on weeknights. We know - we don’t get it either.

Regardless, The University Paper wishes you the best of luck out there and is not at all jealous of your escape from the student staple diet of Super Noodles, tins of beans and internal debates about whether or not to eat that potato that has started sprouting roots…

For first year students, it’s a different story. Savour this summer, freshers, because when you return next year you will not only fall, but nosedive, out of ‘40 heaven’ and crash straight into the realisation that you actually have to attend lectures to obtain a degree classification that doesn’t share its name with a South African bishop!

And as for the second year students - the awkward middle child of campus is growing up and we hope you enjoy the sunny break before your very final year of deadlines and stress eating!

Lights, camera, action for the launch of Notts TV LAUREN LEE A Nottingham-based television station set to launch this month will offer students the chance to gain experience-on both sides of the camera.

Notts TV, which is based within Nottingham Trent’s Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism’s state-of-the-art newsroom, will offer students the chance to work in making programmes as well as production that will all air on Freeview Channel 8 for Nottingham residents.

The channel is set to launch on May 27 and will deliver local news, sports and weather.

After months of meetings and discussions with industry leaders, the trio were able to develop their idea, construct a business plan and set out on their journey with an enterprise grant giving them enough money to get going.

Exams passed and graduate schemes turned down, the boys set up shop in their garden shed and began to formulate what we now see on our screens today. The now ten person enterprise continues to expand and is on the verge of putting NTU and Nottingham on the entrepreneurial map.

The future for ‘Spin4’ is looking undoubtedly bright and only time will tell whether the tenacious trio could really be Nottingham’s answer to Mark Zuckerberg.

Students warned after three men are charged following spate of phone thefts on City Campus RYAN JOHNS Police have issued a warning to students to keep their phones safe after mobiles were stolen on campus.

The warning comes after three men were charged with the theft of eight mobile phones from NTU’s student union that took place on September 23 2013.

The three men are on bail for thefts which took place during Fresher’s week 2013, and will appear before Nottingham magistrates this month.

The thefts have resulted in police calling for students to take better care when using their phones on nights out.

So if you are planning a night out to the Student Union or elsewhere to celebrate the end of term here are the top tips, given by Nottingham police to keeping your phone safe: • Write down your mobiles IMEI number, which will be displayed on your battery or in your phones settings. Writing it down will allow you to block it to stop thieves from accessing your information.

• Immobilise.com allows you to register your phones IMEI number free, so if it does go missing it will be easier to track by police.

• Install an app like Lookout Security, and it will track the location of your phone, lock it down to stop others using it and it can send out a siren sound to make it easier to locate.

• Set a pin number or lock pattern – this will deter thieves from stealing a phone that has a lock.

• Insure your phone, it sounds obvious, but having good insurance can work out cheaper than buying a brand new iPhone!

• Don’t give your phone to anyone else unless you know what they are doing with it and where they are.

• And finally… Simply keep your phone in a zipped up pocket or bag that you will keep with you.

By following the steps above, unwanted theft can be prevented. However, in the event that your phone is stolen, police urge students to contact them on 101.

SimSpot adventure for two students NICOLE COTTRELL

The Cornerhouse in Nottingham has plenty to offer but not many would have ventured as far as the top floor. Lucky for you two of our journalists did and here is their account of their time at SimSpot.

As we arrived on the top floor of the Corner House, we were greeted by our pilot for the day Keith, who was eager to get us on board the Boeing 737 simulator, which was the exact replica of a Ryanair aeroplane.

From start to finish, we were made to feel as if we were on an adventure, from the departure lounge to the boarding tunnel, to the imaginary cabin crew and even surrounded by a plethora of controls and switches.

With the scene set, we were then briefed and with the engines running, Keith took a back seat and it was down to us to fly solo from London Heathrow to London Gatwick, before swapping and jetting around the skyscrapers of Hong Kong.

We were taught the techniques behind steering, direction and maintaining a constant altitude level, which gave us the confidence to take the lead.

The second year designers, who were tasked by Ted Baker to create seven looks inspired by a journey on the Orient Express, designed three collections each and presented them at a fashion show.

And now with a blog covering the emerging talent, Ted

Baker expressed they were impressed with the work.

The blog said, “Nottingham Trent’s renowned fashion and textile departments regularly turns out some of the country’s most promising young fashion designers, bursting with creative flair and technical aptitude.”

The blog, written by Ted Bakers team, added, “When we were asked to set the second year fashion students a project, we jumped at the chance to see what these bright young minds would come up with.”

The students each created a jersey, a trouser, and an outdoor look arranged the catwalk show to impress Ted Bakers team, and were praised for their excellent presentation skills and staging.

The blog also told of how the incentive for the show was a Ted Baker goodie bag and a week’s work experience at ‘Tedquarters’, adding the results of the show were amazing.

I’m in my second year at Trent and think I am in love with one of my lecturers. I find it difficult to concentrate on my work when he is teaching. I’ve started emailing him about my course obsessively to try and spark a conversation, I know it’s silly but I can’t help how I feel!

I think everyone has had a crush on a teacher at some point in their lives!

A common turn on is being attracted to someone in power/ someone you can’t have. The fact that you have written in would suggest that you know these feelings can’t progress - your tutor is in a position of trust and it would be unacceptable if that line was crossed. Try to stop emailing them as much. It’s fine to fantasise but remember how important your degree is.

I’ve really messed up! The other night my friends and I were pre drinking, everyone was hammered and I got left alone in the room with my flat mates girlfriend.

They have been having problems recently so we were talking about that, then somehow we ended up making out. It was a massive mistake but I’m scared the truth will come out. HELP! Oh no! What a tricky situation to be in! Yes you have majorly messed up here, but you can make it better! There are two options, 1) You tell your housemate and hope they can forgive you in time 2) you don’t say anything and hope the truth doesn’t come out.

My honest opinion would be to tell your friend. This secret will probably come out, so put your feelings to one side, for your housemates sake, it isn’t great to build a relationship with someone who has lied to them.

When an announcement was made in November of last year that two of the most loved boy bands of a generation were going to join together, excitement gradually grew. Anticipation reached a crescendo before their arrival in Nottingham on a tour which has had to be expanded to 35 dates (originally 11) due to high demand. One question remained though: would it all live up to the hype?

Even considering that question seemed stupid from the moment you walked in the arena. McBusted ensured none of the packed out Capital FM Arena went home disappointed with a show that kept screaming fans on their feet throughout the hour and a half set. Who could have really expected anything less with the association between the bands beginning ten years earlier?

Back in 2004, Busted were the band on everyone’s lips and when they played the Nottingham Arena in that year they were accompanied by the new kids on the block, McFly, as supporting artists.

The following years for both bands couldn’t have gone any differently. The latter had a Brit Award and numerous hit singles whilst the former had announced their split much to the despair of their fans (even if it made a great start to the show).

Starting with the video

THE LADS PERFORMED A NUMBER OF SONGS ON A UFO HANGING FROM THE CEILING of the press conference announcing the split, the scene depicted Matt Willis and James Bourne eager to go back to the way things were. Why did they need to do that? A DeLorean of course. Lowered from the top of the Arena, the pair joined their McFly counterparts on the stage to kick of the night with a stirring rendition of Air Hostess to get the crowd warmed up.

Five Colours In Her Hair was the first McFly song to be treated with the admiration of the crowd (heavily weighted towards the female side) as the band headed towards the mid-show interval. However this wasn’t any old break in songs. Oh no. Mock footage of an alien invasion gave the six lads time to move to another piece of apparatus coming from the ceiling this time in the form of a UFO. The obligatory Star Girl was performed on the new stage along with Nerdy and Room on the Third Floor before it was time to return to the main stage.

There was still time for Thunderbirds Are Go, Shine A Light and Year 3000 to get their appreciation coupled with a brilliant cover of Jackson 5’s I Want You Back

Rolling back the years: 2004 came round all over again with the lads touring together to keep the crowd on its toes.

With 24 top five singles between the two bands it is clear to see that no love has been lost from the fans for the songs that hit the charts over the past decade.

With another date added for Nottingham due to popular demand there will surely be a majority of the crowd who end up back at the Capital FM Arena once again to see their idols in action.

McBusted return to Nottingham on May 20th where they will once again be supported by up and coming quarter EofE who you can see an interview with in last month’s edition.

Top ten pre-drinking songs for summer LUCY ACTON

As the university year comes to an end, every student must be used to famous ‘Pre-Drinks’ and what it stands for.

They will know cheap vodka and a good playlist are on the cards and maybe even a drinking game if you’re lucky!

But the fun stops soon with disputes

over what songs to put on, that one drunk person playing their favourite song over and over again (me!!) and then the edgy crowd in the corner refusing to have anything but the best. Oh and let us not forget that one person who won’t let a good song finish before putting on their next favourite (you know who you are).

Not everyone is going to agree all the time on what should be played but there has got to be a solution right?

Fear not, here I have a list of top ten songs that must be on your list to stop any trials and tribulations.

1. Beyonce. Everyone loves her. Anything.

2. Sigma - Nobody to love. A good summery tune that no-one can

complain about at the moment.

3. Friend Within - Renegade Master.

A great old school anthem.

4. Disclosure and Ms Dynamite – Boo in the live lounge. Release your inner garage hood rats and shake ya booty whilst holding a cheap bottle of wine.

5. Fuse ODG Anything.

6. Shift K3Y – touch.

A new but summery song that will sure have the whole room singing along.

7. Le Youth- Dance with me.

8. Iggy Azalea – FANCY. (To any boys out there, deal with it, it’s a fab song.)

9. Klingade – Jubel.

10. And of course, pre drinks wouldn’t be the same without

some Spice Girls being hollered out at the top of your voices as the taxi is pulling up.

As festivals roll into town the start of summer is signalled. Peace are one of the bands that will be headlining this month’s Dot to Dot Festival.

We caught up with drummer Dominic Bryce to ask him about the year ahead which will see the four-piece return to Reading and Leeds.

Beyoncé was the big hit last year but this year with the likes of The Killers, Lily Allen and Blondie there seems to be something for people of almost all ages. Although recently it’s been labelled as a ‘chavs paradise’ V Festival has been labelled by many as the best weekend of their whole lives.

If you do decide to go be prepared to get covered in booze as apparently people get so excited drinks start flying! It promises to be a weekend of good spirits and plenty of good music.

Reading and Leeds were a big highlight of last year, so it’s exciting to go back again.

5. How have your experiences of Nottingham crowds been on your trips to the city? Alongside Birmingham, Nottingham has always been great to us. Some of my favourite shows were one’s we did at Rescue Rooms really early on. Good memo-

6. How would you describe your music and who has influenced you in your career? As a drummer, my biggest inspiration has always been John Bonham, and as a band, Led Zeppelin as a whole was responsible for the start of my friendship

with Harry.

7. What do you hope to bring to the music world over your career? That’s a massive question! I don’t know really, I guess it would be nice to think we’ve made people have the same feeling I had when going to see my favourite bands in the past.

With five festivals profiled it would only be fair that we pick out our favourite two wouldn’t it? So here we look at the two that in the University Paper’s eyes have the most to offer and are the best value for money with the first of those being Reading: According to the website this year they have ‘the greatest bands in the world’ including Artic Monkeys, Paramore and Blink 182.

Reading Festival in Leeds takes place over the August

Tickets are priced at £213 for the whole weekend and £99.50 for one day and it promises to be another year of great music and hopefully some good weather to go with it. Blink 182 have said, “we’re getting ready to rock the fine people of the UK. Prepare for the fury”.

Well if that doesn’t get you excited then I don’t know what will! The crowds are described as very music savvy and although again the music might not suit

everyone, if you like the look of the line-up then you’re in for a weekend of absolutely manic music and fantastic performances.

So pack up your things, grab some mates and travel to one of the most successful festivals Britain has to offer.

Bastille are a band synonymous with festivals and this summer is no different. With last year’s successes still keeping the band on their toes for what is to come, lead singer Dan Smith is looking forward to embarking on more festival dates over the upcoming summer.

After the Isle Of Wight Festival, Oceanfest, Glastonbury, Blissfields, Wakestock and T in the Park last year anyone would have thought they might tone it down a little over this summer. On the contrary, they are going one better this time around by visiting seven (yes seven) British festivals over the coming months.

Keeping with T in the Park from the previous year, the band will be heading to Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Parklife Weekender, Somerset House, Longitude Festival, Boardmasters and V Festival.

Just two years on from playing at much smaller venues such as Southampton Juniors and Birmingham’s Rainbow, lead singer Dan definitely feels they have caught the festival bug.

“It’s interesting playing at festivals as it’s a bit of a different ball game,” he said.

“At your own gig you can accept that everyone there probably likes your music and are there because they want to hear you.

“At festivals it is so different.

I have been to so many before and as well as the bands that I love, I’ll also check out the bands I haven’t made my mind up about yet.”

After going to many festivals himself and then playing a number of them with Bastille, Dan is well placed to give his opinions on which one he enjoys most.

“Glastonbury is probably my favourite festival and I love Reading from when I was younger as well.

“As a band we have had some quite weird experiences like when Kyle had to be smuggled into Glastonbury.

“We were playing the venue but his ticket didn’t arrive so he had to be smuggled in inside a sofa.”

Having also played alongside many bands on different stages across the country, Dan has come up with an idea of his perfect gig line up.

“My taste in music is quite broad and I’m often just into the new music that I’m listening to. However, I think it would be nice to have Simon and Garfunkel back and reuniting the Fugees would be cool.

“Add to them Jay Z, Vampire Weekend, Blur, Frank Ocean would be great. James Blake can come along as well.”

Although queuing to get in can take several hours and food

and drink is ridiculously expensive (but where is it not at a festival) Glastonbury will only set you back £210 for the weekend. According to those who have been it will ruin you for all future festivals and you haven’t done festivals until you’ve done Glastonbury.

This year the line-up ranges from Dolly Parton to Kasabian, meaning a range of ages are welcome and will take place between 25th-29th June. However, if you’re thinking of taking

Top summer festival number two: Glastonbury on this giant of a festival do remember to pack for all weather conditions as previous people have highlighted how British weather can dampen any good weekend, especially one as epic as this. Overall Glasto is set to have some legendary appearances and will be one to remember for the rest of your life, you know, the kind of thing you tell your grandchildren about. Definitely a 9/10 (depending on the weather).

The final festival we look at is one much closer to home. Whilst festivals stretch all over the country, none could be better than one that’s on the doorstep of University right? So here is all you need to know if you want to go to Dot to Dot this year.

Dot to Dot is a cheaper option for first time festival goers at just £20 a ticket for the day (plus a £2 booking fee if you purchase online). Dot-to-Dot takes place on Sunday 25th May in Nottingham itself so not far to travel at all! Those appearing so far include; The Midnight Beast, Peace and We The Wild. This unique group of artists is likely to open people up to some great music as well and showcase talent you may not have heard of. The positive aspect of this festival is it’s held in several locations such as Rock City, Jongleurs and Jam Café so you can pick wherever you want to go and see lots of Nottingham at the same time. This event is for over 14s but under 18s will not have access to The Rescue Rooms, Stealth and Bodega. So get along and support the artists who have come right to your doorstep to perform on what will hopefully be a perfect weekend weather wise. This weekend has everything: great bands, cheap tickets and situated just down the road. There is literally nothing you can grumble about and with the University year coming to end for most around the time of the festival, it would be a great way to end the year in style with all the friends you will miss over the summer months.

Raspberry swirl cakes EMILY OAKDEN

C

upcakes are perfect for any occasion, be it celebrating a birthday, giving away as a gift, or just to satisfy your own sugary cravings.

A take on a classic, these cupcakes have a hidden surprise that is sure to make you smile.

Ingredients: 125g softened butter ½ teaspoon vanilla extract 150g caster sugar 80ml milk Pink food colouring Raspberry jam 125g Sugar Method: 1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Line your cake tin with paper cases.

2. Beat the butter, vanilla extract, eggs and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy, and gradually stir in flour and milk.

3. Divide the mixture evenly between two bowls and colour one mixture pink with the colouring. Drop alternate spoonfuls of each mixture into the cases.

4. Place half a teaspoon of jam on top of each cake mixture, then take a skewer and mix the cake mixture in its case to create a swirling effect.

5. Bake the cakes for around 30 minutes and leave to cool.

To decorate, try mixing a few drops of milk with some cream cheese and icing sugar.

Try adding food colouring for a bit of a difference.

Thought the perfect man was hard to find, ladies?

Well, gear up for an even tougher task to tackle with the almighty question of, “What is the perfect shoe?”

It’s a toughie, but with some savvy shopping and a productive elimination process you can figure it out.

When I say perfect ‘shoe’, I really mean shoes.

Because ONE: women need options and TWO: buying shoes needs no explanation/justification.

With spring upon us and summer edging its way closer, you’re going to need a pair of day shoes that are comfortable to spend the day in, keep your toes warm but avoid sweaty feet central.

This season it’s all about the chunky sandals with wide straps that offer that hint of summer with cheeky cutouts but still give your feet that much needed coverage on chillier days. They’ll look amazing with dresses but also spice up a classic pair of jeans.

ASOS are doing great seasonal footwear for the day at the moment so head on over there to snap some of these babies up.

Here is what they came up with: Ashleigh Tuttle: Keep pestering: Be personal but still professional when showing how much this opportunity would mean to you. Show your passion and get involved as much as you can.

CV: Any relevant work experience and skills, no matter how big or small, should be on your CV. This includes achievements that you believe would make you stand out to a future employer. Make sure you personalise your CV and cover letter for each company. On the NTU website there is a service called ‘MyCareerExplorer’s CV Builder’ to help you create the perfect CV and cover letter.

Email regularly: Show you’re interested and find out as much information as you can about the job you want.

Apply to different companies – so you have as many opportunities as possible.

Try and make contacts: In many jobs it’s often about the people you know that are able to help you when getting a job or placement.

Interviews: Try and make a good first impression.

It is said that lasting impressions are made in the first three seconds of meeting someone, so make sure you look smart and ready to do the job at hand.

Darcie Chambers: Keep calm and make a start: When it comes to starting out on your graduate job hunt, it’s easy to feel like everyone else has it all figured out already. But they haven’t.

Build your network: Never underestimate the power of networking. Get your name out there. If you can pick up some work experience from one of your contacts or even an update when a potential position

Be confident, stay positive: This applies, not only to your attitude, but also to your language.

When writing your CV, avoid common mistakes such as ‘I feel I have...’ or ‘I can be good at...’

Remember: you’re selling yourself to the employer.

A little confidence can go a long way.

Consider all the options: Ok. You’ve reached graduation and have absolutely no idea what kind of jobs you’re qualified for. You’re not the only one. Make sure you know all the options before you start writing yourself off.

Sometimes your degree can open more doors than you realise and take your career in a completely different direction.

Lucy Acton: CV: Make sure your CV is interesting, well written and organised.

Enjoyment: Apply for jobs in an area that you enjoy. There is no point

applying to be a nursery helper if you cannot stand children. Your passion will shine through.

Look around: Use every possible way of finding jobs. Online, job centres, ask around, recruitment agencies and walking into places. Your initiative will stand you out from the crowd.

Preparation: Be prepared for interviews and research the company.

Prepare a list of skills you may need for the job you are applying for and get examples of how you can show you have this skill.

And remember the company may be researching you so make sure your Facebook and twitter reflect you in the best possible way.

Relax, ask questions and walk in with a smile. Confidence is key but arrogance should be left outside.

Follow these tips and hopefully secure the job of your dreams.

Placements can be hard work to find but once you have one you must make the most of all the time you have at your chosen company. However, sometimes the placement could be not what you were hoping for so here at the UP we have compiled a list of how to make the most out of both good and bad placements so that you know what to do in either situation.

Good by Georgia Farquharson: Network – This doesn’t mean you have to interrogate everyone you come in contact with (and I don’t suggest you do,) simply be chatty and interact with the people around you. Everyone knows that in most professions ‘who you know’ counts for a lot more than ‘what you know’ so make contacts while you can. They can prove invaluable when you’re looking for work.

Presentation – They say people judge you within the first few minutes of meeting you, so it’s vital you present yourself in the best possible way. Enquire beforehand what you are expected to wear and

be sure to conform to that.

Enthusiasm – You have to remember that it’s a professional industry you’re stepping in to and your colleagues are likely to be busy.

However tempting it may be to sit on your phone, don’t! You need to show that you are proactive, enthusiastic and willing to help. Don’t badger people for things to do, but politely ask if you can help with anything.

Hard Work – Most of all just seem happy to be there. Remember this isn’t compulsory year 10 work experience; you should be there because you want to and because you’re willing to learn. Work hard and you’ll be remembered for all the right reasons. You may even get an invitation back!

Bad by Cassie Shipley: Most of us will have to undertake a placement, but the likelihood is not all placements are going to be good. You generally get out what you put in and the first couple of days will likely test you to see if you’ll stick it out. So here’s how to deal with a bad placement from people who have already

been on one.

You may feel like the tea or coffee maker for the first part of your placement but no one is just going to hand you responsibility on your first couple of days because trust is earned. My advice to you? Stick it out and do the annoying menial jobs at first in the hope you’ll get to do something worthwhile afterwards. Also, volunteer to do anything, even if you think its rubbish because it shows you’re willing, and that’s generally a good thing.

If, after a while things don’t improve then talk to someone and politely ask if there’s anything you can do to help.

The main thing you have to do is show you’re up for anything, both small tasks and big ones too. However, also remember to research the place you’re going to as they may be having problems and someone on placement could be the last thing on their mind.

Overall remember that you’re doing a placement to gain work experience, even if it’s just little bits and pieces so try your best to enjoy it and squeeze out of it everything you can!

Here’s the rundown of what you need if you are heading backpacking this summer!

A backpack that fits: You’re basically going to be carrying your home around on your back for months so you will need to invest a bit of money in a light-weight backpack that fits your body type.

A sheet: Bed bugs: the bane of every backpacker’s life. Some hostels are infested with them. If your bed looks a tad suspect, you’ll be thankful to have your own sheet with you.

Wet wipes: It may seem a bit gross now but sometimes you’ll be forced to forego a shower and have a wet wipe bath instead.

A lock: Some people just aren’t very nice. Stuff does get stolen from backpacks at night/when you’re passed out in the bar after fifteen tequila shots.

The Entrepreneur: A look at Lord Sugar’s ventures WILL WILSON Alan Sugar, better known today as Lord Sugar, is one of the most successful British entrepreneurs and is currently worth £770 million.

Sugar first shot to success with Amstrad, which he founded in 1968. Amstrad, which is short for Alan Michael

Sugar Trading, is an electronics company that specialises in consumer electronics. Amstrad went from strength to strength during the 80s, doubling in size each year on the London Stock Exchange and launching the first mass market dedicated to Word Processor in 1985.

In 2005, Amstrad announced an agreement

with BskyB and is now owned by BskyB. However, Alan Sugar stepped down from his position as CEO and chairman of Amstrad in 2007 and the company was also delisted from the London Stock Exchange.

In 1991, Sugar bought Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, and remained as owner of the club until 2001. However,

he described his years at Tottenham as ‘a waste of my life’. He went on to sell his most of his share in the club for £22 million to ENIC and the remaining shares for £25 million.

Since 2005, Alan Sugar has been recognised primarily for his hit TV show, The Apprentice.

The Apprentice, which is soon to start its 10th

series, helps aspiring businessmen compete against each other.

Here’s how: Get a job in a pub/ bar: Summer is always a time when people want to relax with a drink, so pubs and bars are generally looking for staff. The hours are generally flexible and the pay is quite good, you also might get shifts during other holidays such as Christmas and New Year.

Gardening, washing cars or babysitting: These are flexible jobs that you can do for family, friends or even neighbours.

Although washing cars and gardening are best done whilst the weather is good they allow you to be outside in the sun whilst making money at the same time.

Clean out your room: Getting rid of old toys or gadgets and selling them online or at a car boot sale is a really good way to make money, plus you also know they’re going to someone who might actually use them!

There’s lots of ways to make sure you’ve got enough money over the summer, just remember to give yourself sometime to relax and prepare for next year (oh and maybe fit a summer holiday in).

You step out of University with your diploma in your hand, ready to face the big world. But you haven’t a job, and the prospect of sifting through job advertisements is awful. Worse is the prospect of ‘work’ itself. Were you designed solely for labour?

What if you fall into a 9-5 routine from which you cannot escape?

Unfortunately, travel is not the solution to fearing adulthood. You will eventually have to get a job and, at times, routine will bore you. You will have less leisure time, and the number of friendships you will be able to maintain will fall. You will move in with your long-term partner and start wearing slacks. Travel cannot change this, and to think it would be the last hurrah of enjoyment before a lifetime of routine is cynical.

Even people wearing slacks have fun.

That said, travel is an experience that at some point you should seize. And this is a convenient time to seize it – for a brief moment, you find yourself disentangled from commitments. You can do anything – if you put yourself halfway across the world you will do something. Sat at home, too often we forget to do anything at all.

Helpful tips for the end of term cleaning session OLIVER STAINFORTH For most students, a year that passes by without countless nights of drunken antics, a series of kitchen disasters and a whole host of spillages and accidents is one that is pretty much impossible.

While the year may have been filled with laughter and frolics, have you considered the affect it has had on your home?

It’s time to put a bit of a downer on things – remember that inventory you filled out at the beginning of the year?

When you leave your student property, everything is expected to be left how it was at the start of the year.

Firstly, it needs to be clean.

The oven, microwave, shower, toilet, tables and floor everything needs to be pristine. The best way to do this is to share the duties between you and your housemates. It’s tedious,

but teamwork gets the job done quicker.

Secondly, things that have broken need to be fixed or replaced. Electrical items are not your problem, but any dishes or glasses that have smashed are. Replacing them with cheap and plain copies is a better alternative to being overcharged by landlords.

Thirdly, you will be charged for anything that’s left behind that wasn’t there when you moved in. Make sure everything is taken home with you or put into storage.

If a housemate leaves anything behind it’s important to do something about it or you will all be charged. Get in touch with them to see if they want the item and if not then give it to a charity shop.

Follow these guidelines and there shouldn’t be a problem with your landlords come the end of term.
