JULY 2016 MEET THE VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN

ongratulations to Union Springs Central School District’s Valedictorian Connor Coleman and Salutatorian Morgan Hand. Connor is the daughter of Craig and Michelle Coleman of Auburn. Morgan is the daughter of Larry and Tara Hand of Union Springs.

During her time at Union Springs High School, Connor thrived in the classroom, on soccer fields, tennis courts, and on stage. Most recently, Connor served as president of the National She turned her cant’s into Honor Society, as cans, and her dreams into well as the district’s plans. first student -Anonymous representative on the Board of Education. A student-athlete, Connor participated on the varsity soccer team for three years and varsity tennis team throughout her high school career. Although she enjoyed her time on both teams, Connor’s passion is theater. She earned a leading role in every high school musical over the past four years. Additionally, Connor performed at the Regional Shakespeare Competition the past two years. Connor credits all of her teachers for helping her achieve success at Union Springs. “I’m going to miss it here.” Connor will attend Clarkson University in the fall and study Chemical Engineering. “I’ve always loved problem solving, as well as math and chemistry,” said Connor. “Chemical Engineering seems like the perfect fit for me.” Of course, Connor plans to become involved with Clarkson’s a cappalla and theater programs.
Morgan Hand Salutatorian Morgan Hand has also demonstrated excellence academically, athletically, and musically. Morgan was a member of the National Honor Society Nothing endures but change. and participated -Heraclitus in Yorkers, the high school’s history club. Additionally, she played on the school’s volleyball and track and field teams. With a passion for music, Morgan was a member of Chorale, All-County Chorus, and band. Performing in several high school musicals was also a favorite experience for Morgan. Throughout her many activities, Morgan always made time to volunteer, whether it was peer tutoring or assisting at school and community functions. Morgan appreciates the support she’s experienced throughout her time at Union Springs High School. “All of the teachers are great and take the time to help,” said Morgan. “It’s been nice to be a part of a small, caring school community.” Morgan plans to attend Nazareth College in the fall and major in physical therapy, with a dual minor in psychology and music.
