Six Book Challenge 2013 in the Workplace www.readingagency.org.uk/sixbookchallenge “I’d encourage other businesses to run the Six Book Challenge. It’s a stepping stone to better morale, improved skills and a reading culture that everyone can take part in.” Andy Thornton, Merseylearn manager, Merseytravel “It’s never too later to start reading. I’m a perfect example of how reading can change your life. I had the reading age of an 11 year old when I was 17 and I only became a confident reader when I joined the Army. But once I started I couldn’t stop – and that’s what the Six Book Challenge is all about.” Andy McNab, author, former SAS soldier and Ambassador for the Six Book Challenge 2013
We’re delighted to announce that print materials for the Six Book Challenge 2013, our sixth year, are now available to order featuring a call to action from Andy McNab, author, former SAS soldier and our Ambassador for 2013. Plus we are offering specially branded materials in partnership with the Rugby League World Cup 2013 in order to reach a new audience of rugby league fans in the build-up to the championships in Oct/Nov 2013. And we have bilingual materials for use in Wales for the first time this year thanks to support from the Welsh Government and Welsh Books Council. Order now through the new Reading Agency Shop and take advantage of a special Early Bird offer! Please pass this message on to all colleagues who might be interested in participating in the Six Book Challenge 2013. The process is very simple. You just add what you want to your basket, go to the checkout, and at the end you can set up a new account, so it stores your information for future use, or you can buy as a guest if that suits. A new account will save you time for future purchases and only requires a small amount of extra information – add a password, nothing too onerous! The Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge invites adult literacy learners and less confident readers to read six books such as the Quick Reads and to record their reading in a diary in order to receive incentives, a certificate and the chance to enter a national prize draw. Launched nationally by The Reading Agency in 2008, the Six Book Challenge is helping to tackle the UK’s continuing skills deficit. Recent Government figures show that 15% (5.1 million) of the working age population in England are still at or below the literacy level expected of an 11 year old.
