Sisters of St Francis of the Providence of God Offer Monthly Soup Take Out Keep warm this November with hearty soup and a healthier take on chili from the Sisters of St Francis of the Providence of God. The Sisters monthly Soup Take Out on Wednesday, November 13 will offer Wedding Soup, Pumpkin Soup, or Chicken Chili for $5 a quart , which includes 2 dinner rolls. Orders must be placed by Thursday, November 7 by calling 412-885-7232 or e-mailing info@osfprov.org. Soup orders can be picked-up on Wednesday, November 13 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sisters’ Motherhouse, located at 3603 McRoberts Road in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. The Sisters host monthly takes outs throughout the year where patrons can choose from three homemade soup selections each month. Using fresh ingredients, Motherhouse chef Doug Brannock prepares healthier versions of soup by omitting additional salt. Wedding, their most popular soup, is offered every month with two other rotating selections that may include Chicken Noodle, Broccoli, Potato, Vegetable Lentil, Chicken and Dumpling, and Acorn Squash, as well as Haluski and Chili. The full soup menu is available on the events page of the Sisters website, www.osfprov.org, or by calling 412-885-7232. Soup patrons looking for unique gifts may visit the Sisters’ Gift Shoppe, which is open during take out pick-up. Items offered include jewelry and accessories, Steelers themed gifts, baby items, holiday decorations, kitchen accessories, and the famous hand crocheted scrubbers. For a limited time, Pumpkin Spice Franciscan Blend fair trade coffee will be available at the Motherhouse and sold during Soup pick-up. Franciscan Blend is $9.99 for a 12oz bag. Other flavors include Regular, Chocolate-Cherry, Hazelnut and French Vanilla. Decaffeinated versions of the regular and hazelnut are also available. All proceeds from soup, coffee and craft sales benefit the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God.

LAOH Seeks New Members Catholic Women of Irish Decent Encouraged to Join The only Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) division in Washington County is looking for new members. The Mary Ellen O'Neill Division #4 of the LAOH has members who live in Elizabeth area, Monongahela, Donora and Charleroi. We know there are many more Irish women who are proud of their heritage, and we would like to hear from you. If you are a female of Irish decent, married to someone of Irish descent, or adopted by someone of Irish decent and a practicing Catholic, we invite you to consider becoming a member of our organization. The LAOH have announced the topics of their 2013-14 Irish History Writing Contest. For grades 6, 7, 8 the topic is “The Giants Causeway – Facts and Folklore”. For grades 9 through 12, the topic is “Book of Kells – Its origin and present day influence”. All students attending public, private, parochial and home schooled are eligible to enter. Top prize for Elementary School is $500 and for High School is $1,000. The contest opened in September and must be turned in by January 20, 2014. South Park Township Library Presents “A Tuna Christmas” While most folks associate Christmas with having turkey and stuffing, the South Park Library will have “A Tuna Christmas”. Since they won’t be really eating tuna fish for Christmas, they will be presenting the sequel to “Greater Tuna”. This is the second in the hilarious series by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard. It’ll be Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. Oh, by the way, you will be getting your turkey and stuffing that night too … Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities for their town and surrounding areas. This includes the yearly infamous hot competition in the annual lawn display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of “A Christmas Carol” is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills ... many colorful Tuna denizens, some of you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun. “A Christmas Tuna” is a total delight for all seasons and will be performed by very well know local players from “The Heritage Players”. Audiences who have and haven’t seen “Greater Tuna will enjoy this laugh filled evening. This fun-filled performance will be held at the Broughton Volunteer Fire Hall, Cochran Mill Rd., South Park Township, on Saturday December 14. Doors open 6:30 PM. Tickets $30 per person includes play, traditional turkey dinner, punch, set ups. The library’s comedy-musical evening is for “adults only” to enjoy before the hectic holiday season is here. BYOB is permitted. Tickets can be purchased and picked up only at South Park Township Library by deadline, Wednesday December 11.
