Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Meet the 2013 Clairton High School Homecoming Court Clairton Elementary supports breast cancer awareness month. 5th graders Jonea Hicks, Jaleah Puryear, Kyra Frankert, and Cerenitie Carper.

Students And Teachers Practice Emergency Evacuation Drill

The 2013 Clairton High School Homecoming Court (l-r) Noaha Berry, Breanne Shaw, Sacren Gaynor, Asia Lloyd, Ivy Meachum, Irelynn Jones, Jaylynn Sanders and Nicole Nelson. On October 4, 2013, the homecoming queen was crowned during the annual halftime homecoming festivities. Noaha Berry was named the 2013 Royal Queen and Sacren Gaynor and Ivy Meachum were named the Royal Princesses.

Clairton Student Pitch in for "Fall Clean Up Day" On September 27, Clairton City School District participated with the Clairton Police Department and Clairton Chamber of Commerce in the Fall Clean-Up Day. Students from the following organizations participated: National Honor Society, GATE, Cheerleaders, Varsity Football Players, Bears Against Bullying, Student Leadership, and the Student Council. Students cleaned different designated areas of the community with the following staff members helping and supervising; Ms. Trubiani, Ms. Yeager, Ms. Conley, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Sirbaugh, and Ms. Porter. On Tuesday, October 15 Clairton City School District practiced the mandatory emergency evacuation drill. Students and staff evacuated Clairton Education Center and went to the safe area at the Clairton Municipal Building. The drill is designed to help teach students and staff what to do if an emergency situation would arise.

Homeschool Outdoor Classroom in Mingo Park: Dissecting Owl Pellets The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a Homeschool Outdoor Classroom at Mingo Creek County Park on Thursday, November 14 at the Park Office. Two sessions are available; Session I will begin at 10:00 AM and Session II will begin at 1:00 PM. We will have a hoot of a time learning about these majestic, predatory birds. Students will learn about the types of owls that live in our area, listen to calls, and dissect their very own owl pellet. Owl pellets and materials will be provided. Please note that this program is designed for homeschooled children ages 5 to 11. Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation office at 724228-6867. There is a fee of $2 per pellet. Mingo Creek Park is located 12 miles east of Washington, PA off of Route 136.
