There are not many 14-year-olds these days who could be described by these superlatives, but Monongahela resident Jason Beck, son of Robert and Andrea Beck, is one who can. For Jason’s required Eagle Scout project, he tackled a difficult task. He decided to replace the roofs on two baseball dugouts in Mounds Park. The City of Monongahela had obtained a contractor’s estimate of $6,000 to do the job. Instead, Jason’s bill of materials amounted to only $2,600, of which the City had to pay just $600. Williams with a certificate of appreciation. Williams introduced Jason and provided some background on the project, then Jason gave a presentation about the details of the 2month project. While listening to these compelling stories, several women in the room reacted emotionally and wept; they were extremely proud of Jason’s determination and sacrifices. In addition, Jason noticed that the flagpole at the Park needed a paint job, so that was added to the work done. PA Senator Pat Toomey provided a U.S. flag, which had been flown over the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on the 175th anniversary of naming the City of Monongahela.
