A message from the CEO

With winter firmly entrenched and the awards season in full swing, I take this opportunity to look back at some key developments in our sector.

Master Pool Builders Association Australia (MPBAA) and SPASA Australia have now merged to form one entity with enormous upside for the industry and members. Over the last 12 months, both teams have been working diligently behind the scenes to come up with a workable solution that enhances the best of both organisations. As such, the MPBAA brand was deemed a critical component in servicing and driving the pool-building sector across Australia. With a dedicated team and division of SPASA Australia, MPBAA will continue to champion the needs and aspirations of pool builders who look to elevate themselves as master craftsmen in their chosen field.

We look upon this opportunity with enormous excitement, and as the year progresses, we will be launching at dedicated members’ forums across the country. SPASA CEO Lindsay McGrath says, “The amalgamation will be a positive result for all members and will allow SPASA to deliver more benefits now and into the future. Amalgamating resources will add efficiencies to our services, which in turn will increase the value to our members.”

Here at MPBAA, we feel that the merger is a great opportunity to combine resources and work on the strategic elements of the industry to future-proof members’ interests. With greater resources for advocacy and promotion of the industry, this opportunity will drive new initiatives and enhance the position of the swimming pool and spa sector.

For many years now, we have been lobbying the government at various levels, and having the combined resources of both organisations will help deliver positive outcomes to members across Australia. This merger will allow for further training programs for future professional development and deliver on planned strategies across a range of pillars that

support the aspirational objectives of members and the wider industry.

July also saw the Melbourne Pool & Spa Show, together with the Backyard & Garden Show, deliver a consistent message to consumers through TV, radio and social media. These events are critical in the marketing mix to allow us to keep in front of consumers. We understand that the leisure dollar is scarce, and the current economic climate is challenging, but solid marketing efforts that are used today will ensure the industry benefits in the not-too-distant future as we come out of this testing economic environment.

A big thank you goes to our exhibitors who reaped the benefits of the several thousand consumers who visited the

Melbourne Convention Centre on a cold Melbourne weekend.

The Australian Pool & Spa Awards are upon us, and we wait with excitement to see the incredible projects constructed by our members. They truly are world class, and we encourage all in the industry to engage with the awards program into the future as it is a fabulous way of promoting your achievements.

As a combined industry with a team of dedicated professionals across a range of divisions, with clear objectives to grow and promote the health and wellness of the community and by extension the swimming pool and spa sector, we look forward to the remainder of the year and into 2024 with excitement and purpose.

THE AUSTRALIAN POOL & SPA AWARDS 2023

Master Pool Builders Association Australia (MPBAA) held this year’s Australian Pool & Spa Awards at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Master Pool Builders Association Australia (MPBAA) held the Australian Pool & Spa Awards at the fabulous Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) last night. This celebration is the largest annual industry event of its kind in Australia and the most anticipated across the sector. The night was a glorious salute to the best of the best in Australia, with pool and spa builders, retailers, service technicians, barrier inspectors and industry associates gathering.

The Sovereign Room came alive as winners of the 2023 Australian Pool & Spa Awards were announced. The night was expertly compared by former AFL commentator Shane Healy and guests were treated to some fabulous entertainment by TUSK – The Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band.

With a total of 44 award categories making up the MPBAA program, Gold and Highly Commended award winners were announced, including the winners of the three major awards:

The 2023 Remco Australian Pool of the Year was awarded to Apex Pools and Spas, the 2023 Australian Spa of the Year was awarded to Aqua Dreamz, and the 2023 Product of the Year went to Walkston Pty Ltd for the Walkston Pump.

A total of 82 Gold and Highly Commended awards were presented to well-deserving Master Pool Builders Association Australia members.

CEO of MPBAA, Chris Samartzis, said, “The swimming pool is an intrinsic part of the Australian way of life. Due to this we are constantly reminded of the importance of the pool industry in the lives of Australians and our master pool and spa builders have once again taken the humble backyard swimming pool and spa to a new level. Not only is the dream of owning your own backyard oasis more achievable than ever, but these design projects from our members embrace a level of bespoke construction that adds enormous value and enduring quality to both home and lifestyle.

“The ability to provide a backyard sanctuary for your family is within the reach of everyone. Choosing an ethical and competent builder has never been more important. Our members are the most highly sought after, and no other group of pool/spa builders and retailers can deliver an artisan product to these high standards.

“Master Pool Builders Association Australia, part of the SPASA organisation, is a progressive member association that drives high standards across the sector. Australian builders and designers are at the forefront of innovation and lead change from the front. We set a high bar for outdoor living that the rest of the world aspires to. Investing in a pool or spa is a lifestyle and family choice,” Mr. Samartzis said.

The Australian Pool & Spa Awards are designed to:

• Promote achievement in design, construction, innovation and professionalism across the industry;

• Encourage a high degree of competency and professionalism by members; and

• Provide the means and opportunity for consumers to identify award winners.

With images of the best that the pool and spa industry has to offer on prominent display, our members again proved that they are among the very best in the world in terms of craftsmanship, standards and ingenuity. They have again demonstrated their undeniable skill to deliver on the great Australian dream of pool and spa ownership.

A fabulous night was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to all the winners and entrants! mpbaa.com.au/awards-ofexcellence

seven years and during this time he says the quality of pool designs has improved dramatically. Some years are better than others, he notes, but each year there are some standouts. This last year, Patrick commented several times on the particularly high quality of the entries and expressed his pleasure in the achievements of the builders.

Brad is the owner and managing director of Award Pools Group in Sydney. Award Pools Group has been building swimming pools in Sydney for more than 35 years and has designed and built over 2000 inground concrete swimming pools and surrounding landscapes. Brad and his team have received over 180 state, national and international pool builders’ awards and are considered to be Sydney’s most-awarded swimming pool builders. One of Brad’s proudest moments was when Award Pools Group won the first Innovation award in pool construction.

Georgia Harper is the principal of Georgia Harper Landscape Design (GHLD) and is dedicated to working collaboratively with her clients. GHLD’s projects range from small residential courtyards to large commercial developments. Their aim is to create an outdoor space that will work well with your home and your lifestyle. The company’s philosophy is that good design is a great investment, and well-designed landscapes enhance the value of the home as well as the owners’ quality of life.

Working on many design projects that feature pools, Georgia will get a pool builder or two involved early on to give the benefit of their experience.

“It’s great to see the interesting things that MPBAA members are coming up with and how they are pushing the boundaries in both design and engineering. There is so much skill involved in the execution of the projects. The judging is intense but also very enjoyable,” says Georgia.

Patrick is the principal of Jost Architects, which he started in 2005, and is based in St Kilda. Since he began his firm, he has worked mainly in residential architecture but he also does some commercial work when offered. He is very proud of what he believes are great projects and clients since the inception of his firm and says these relationships have developed for the better over the years. APEX POOLS AND SPAS

This exciting project was the result of many months of meticulous planning, design and coordination to meet the client’s extensive brief and to not only create a resort-style atmosphere, but also embrace the amazing natural views that extended out over Wilsons Promontory in the distance.

The pool sits 3.3m above natural ground level, is supported by 90 bored piers, and the concrete shell component was executed over three concrete sprays. It is framed by outdoor pavilions at either end of the pool that add another layer of luxury and resort vibes.

Just shy of 200,000 litres of water, this natural freeform, resort-style pool measures 16m by 8.8m and includes key features such as an infinity edge, a large rock grotto waterfall, a 25 lineal-metre, commercialgrade water slide, and a 3m internal round spa with wet deck details.

Construction challenges included but were not limited to:

• The rural location of the property, making it a logistical challenge

• COVID-19-implemented travel restrictions, site restrictions etc

• Building materials shortage at the time of construction

• Site conditions; the length and gradient of the driveway alone made it difficult for concrete trucks to access the site with full loads etc

• Constructing a natural rock grotto using local granite boulders

The pool is finished with glass mosaic waterline tile and a rendered interior, while the spa and infinity edge are fully tiled in glass mosaics. The gently sloping beach entry is a continuation of the autumn-brown granite paving to the surrounds of the pool area.

The impressive plant room was meticulously designed with functionality in mind, and the attention to detail in the execution is a true testament to all involved.

It houses two Viron Connect 10 automation control units, two independent filters and salt chlorinators, two solar heating systems giving 200 per cent coverage to the pool, and three LPG gas heaters, to name just some of the key considerations that are included in operating the pool.

There were 12 pumps in total, which included push-button air switches for the waterslide and spa jets (both for the spa and inside the grotto).

2023 AUSTRALIAN PRODUCT OF THE YEAR

THE WALKSTON PUMP

The Walkston pump is designed to remove ground water from below any inground structure. The pump lives underneath the pool and is controlled by an automatic controller that switches it on every day to sense for water. If water is there, it will pump it out and if not, it will simply switch off

The benefits include:

• Protection of your investment: installing the Walkston pump system ensures your inground structure, whether it’s a pool, foundation or other structure, is safeguarded from the detrimental effects of groundwater. It helps maintain the structural integrity and longevity of your investment, preserving its value over time.

• Prevention of damage: groundwater can cause a multitude of issues for inground structures, such as structural instability, cracking, or water infiltration. By installing our system, you proactively address these potential problems, preventing costly repairs or the need for premature replacement.

• Peace of mind: the system provides you with peace of mind, knowing that

your inground structure is helping protect against the damaging effects of groundwater. You can have confidence in the stability and reliability of your structure, regardless of the groundwater levels in the surrounding area.

• Enhanced usability: by eliminating the risks associated with groundwater, you can fully utilise and enjoy your inground structure. Whether it’s a pool, basement, or any other structure, you can use it without the constant worry of potential damage caused by groundwater.

• Long-term cost savings: investing in the system upfront can save you significant expenses in the long run. By preventing damage caused by groundwater, you avoid costly repairs or the need for premature replacement, ultimately saving you money in years to come.

The Walkston pump is 100 per cent designed and assembled in Australia, has a unique compact design and can be installed without the use of an electrician. With the ease and safety of the 12V pump, the Walkston system can be installed by registered pool builders.

2023 AUSTRALIAN SPA OF THE YEAR

AQUA DREAMZ

Featuring Bisazza tiles with epoxy, angled seats and three separate spa zones, this elegant spa by Aqua Dreamz has impeccable features.

Designed by Michael Falduto of Falduto Design, this large spa, situated next to a tennis court, features 24 jets in total and six blowers, two of which are imported Italian stainless floor grates. It has custom polished granite coping and a wet-edge face in four huge slabs.

Special considerations include converting the old pond (demolished by the designer and his gardeners) into a wet-edge spa with an angle and filtration times set around, ensuring water flows over the black wet-edge wall when in the sun to avoid excessive heat on the stone.

Challenges faced included the distance from the street to the work site, working with a very eccentric designer in Italy with a unique approach, a town planning issue, all pipe work to exit the spa in one small area with limitations of pipe run heights to make way for concrete steps and pathway, and using automation with LVRs to act as HVRs to gain enough AUX to avoid two separate control systems, which is trickier than once thought. One of only two in Australia to do this, according to Hayward.

Accurate and reliable water leveller

Reputations are hard-won in the pool industry, and the Water Witch has certainly earned its enviable standing among pool professionals, with almost 30 years of reliable performance.

The first Water Witch was produced in 1994, and from quite humble beginnings it has gone on to become Australia’s most trusted auto leveller, protecting expensive pool equipment and maintaining the water level in pools, ponds, tanks and any other application where an accurate water level is required.

The Water Witch has been installed into tens of thousands of pools across Australia and New Zealand, and with the team at Cooke Industries priding themselves on supplying the world’s most feature-packed auto leveller, the future will be even brighter.

The Water Witch is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. It is easy to install, with the option of hard-plumbing the fill line into the pool equipment by using the Watermark-approved backflow prevention valve. The control box features a protected LCD screen for easy programming, as well as a smart sense auto shut-off feature to prevent water wastage.

An innovative feature of the Water Witch is a manual fill timer so builders or service technicians can continue filling a pool for a set period after leaving the site, eliminating the need to return to check

the water level and turn off a tap. There is also a pump-out function that can be used to activate a pump when infinityedge troughs and balance tanks approach capacity and are at risk of overflowing.

From an installer’s perspective, the Water Witch ticks every box. It is reliable, accurate, includes several adjustments and settings to ensure the Water Witch can be tuned to the requirements of the pool or project, and provides in-built run time and fault logs to provide important onsite data when required.

For all the advantages enjoyed by installers, it is the end user that gets the most benefit out of a Water Witch. Top tips for acreage pools

Designing a swimming pool requires a careful balance between form and function to ensure it remains an asset for years to come.

While your average pool requires numerous elements to come together — location, dimensions, materials, finishes, filtration, landscaping, just to name a few — acreage pools demand extra considerations due to their larger scale, higher operational costs and surrounding landscape. We asked multi-award-winning architect and acreage pool design specialist Sarah Waller, and pool equipment manufacturer, Waterco, for their top acreage pool tips.

1. Consider the overall aesthetic theme or style of the property when designing the swimming pool, ensuring it complements the architectural style of the house and the natural surroundings.

2. Establish a strong visual and physical connection between the pool and the home, treating the pool as an extension of the living space.

3. Integrate landscaping elements strategically around the pool area to create privacy and define boundaries, ensuring the pool space feels intimate and secluded within the vastness of an

acreage property. This can be achieved through the use of hedges, trees or privacy screens.

4. Consider incorporating bold and distinctive pool shapes to make a striking visual statement within the expansive landscape, creating a focal point that adds character and uniqueness to the property.

5. Design outdoor gathering areas near the pool, such as a firepit or alfresco kitchen, which embrace the tranquil hinterland setting, allowing for memorable entertaining and relaxation opportunities while enjoying the pool and scenic surroundings.

6. Create distinct pool zones within the larger property by incorporating different features, such as a shallow lounging area or swim-up bar, to enhance functionality and provide recreational options for different purposes.

7. Incorporate outdoor living spaces adjacent to the pool, such as a patio or lounge area, to provide comfortable seating and entertainment options,

further strengthening the connection between the pool and the home.

8. Carefully consider the surrounding foliage on an acreage property, strategically positioning the pool to minimise the impact of fallen leaves and other debris, reducing maintenance requirements.

9. Nestle the pool within the natural contours of the land to enhance its aesthetic appeal and avoid a disconnected, alienated look.

10. Utilise terracing techniques to minimise the need for pool fencing, creating a seamless integration between the pool and the surrounding landscape.

11. Build a strong connection between the pool and residence, treating the pool as an extension of the living space to seamlessly integrate both areas and enhance the overall functionality and aesthetic appeal.

12. Create freshwater swimming conditions while maintaining water balance. Oxiswim is a world-first

Australian innovation that not only gives you the option to switch between chlorine and hydrogen peroxide in combination with an Advanced Oxidation Process (the former best suited for colder months), but also produces a freshwater swimming experience that is ideal for acreage settings.

13. Choose an energy-saving variable speed pump that allows you to lower the speed of the pump’s motor to perfectly match the flow requirements of the swimming pool — significantly reducing the energy requirement of the pool pump to maximise energy savings.

14. Invest in an in-floor cleaner during the construction of the pool shell. Infloor systems with 360° rotating heads fitted into the pool floor automatically remove debris, enhance circulation, and evenly distribute sanitisation chemicals

— useful for acreage pools with design features such as beach entries and sharp corners. They also eliminate the clutter of automatic cleaners and their hoses.

15. Install a pool heater to expand the swimming season and add value to the investment. Renowned for their durability and reliability, Waterco heat pumps offer an energy-efficient way to heat pool water year-round. For acreage sites, Waterco’s Electroheat ECO-V Inverter Heat Pump delivers a massive heat output for larger-than-average-size swimming pools. And while only effective during the warmer months, solar is another option for property owners wanting to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.

Chemical reaction!

What happens when you mix chemicals containing reactive chlorine with other sanitising systems?

Commonly used chlorine sanitisers include chlorine gas and hypochlorites of lithium, sodium and calcium. Here is what happens when you mix chemicals containing reactive chlorine with other sanitising systems.

Potassium Monopersulphate

Potassium Monopersulphate (PMPS) is often used as an oxidiser or shock in a lithium hypochlorite spa. Lithium is the most stable hypochlorite in warm water, as seen in heated spas and pools.

Part of the action of PMPS is to oxidise chloride or bromide (halide ions) to the sanitising chlorine or bromine molecules. To achieve this, the spa or pool must contain a reasonable concentration of halide ions.

This function of PMPS with lithium hypochlorite (eg Liquid Lithium) is limited because, unlike the old solid form of lithium hypochlorite, which contained approximately 33 per cent of chloride salt, Liquid Lithium contains essentially no halide ions.

Another function of PMPS is to oxidise the nitrogen content of ammonia and urea. PMPS oxidises ammonia and urea to nitrates which, unfortunately, are food for algae, whereas the chlorine in Liquid Lithium oxidises the nitrogen in ammonia and urea to elemental nitrogen, which is safely released as gas from the pool or spa.

Aside from these limitations, PMPS is a good oxidiser for organic contaminants and can be used as a shock treatment in spa and pool water.

The sulphate content in PMPS may cause some cloudiness (calcium sulphate) in water treated with Liquid Lithium.

Nature 2

Lithium hypochlorite works well with Nature 2 (Product of Fluidra Group Australia Pty Ltd).

Nature 2 contains metallic silver, which exhibits biocidal activity and, when used in conjunction with Liquid Lithium, forms a very effective sanitising system.

When using Nature 2, some users have been able to limit chlorine addition (e.g., Liquid Lithium), thereby eliminating the slight odour associated with chlorine while still achieving satisfactory sanitation.

UV

Ultraviolet light is widely used for pool and spa sanitation and can inactivate bacteria and viruses. However, some bacteria can repair such damage to their DNA.

UV light, when used on its own, suffers from the disadvantage that it does not provide a residual sanitiser concentration in the main pool or spa water, and this is where Liquid Lithium is helpful.

After a period of UV treatment, the pool or spa can be dosed with Liquid Lithium to provide residual sanitation until the next cycle of UV treatment.

UV/Ozone

Ozone can be generated from oxygen in the air by ultraviolet light or electric discharge (corona discharge).

The half-life of ozone in water at 20 degrees Celcius is less than 30 minutes and is markedly reduced by higher temperatures and sunlight. Like straight UV treatment, Ozone suffers from the disadvantage that it cannot provide a residual in the main pool or spa water, and again this is where chlorine (Liquid Lithium) is helpful.

When the UV/Ozone system is shut down during the daily treatment regime, Liquid Lithium should be dosed to about 3 ppm of available chlorine to provide sanitation until the ozone treatment is re-established.

Ozone is toxic, and if a residual concentration was established for it to be an effective primary sanitiser, the concentration of ozone above the water will exceed the permissible human exposure limit (for an 8-hour exposure) of 0.1 ppm (OSHA 1975).

Thus, ozone requires an additional safe primary sanitiser and is typically used in conjunction with chlorine, of which the most stable form at higher spa temperatures is lithium hypochlorite.

Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB) PHMB is an organic compound. It is composed of a quaternary nitrogen compound (quat), hydrogen peroxide, and an enzyme.

Like most organic compounds, it is readily oxidised by the chlorine containing sanitisers.

Bromine

Most compounds containing chlorine will oxidise bromide ions to elemental bromine.

As a result, mixing these species does not enhance sanitation and, more importantly, could be dangerous.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Do not mix Hydrogen peroxide with chlorine oxidisers. It could be unsafe. Chlorine may oxidise the peroxide and liberate oxygen, which could be explosive.

Ancillary Chemicals

Chlorine is a strong oxidiser and will react with the following chemicals: Quaternary ammonium compounds, chelates (copper citrate and copper triethanolamine), scale and stain inhibitors (poly acrylates and hydroxyethylidinediphosphonic acid), clarifiers (polyelectrolytes), defoamers (silicones) and enzymes.

UV

UV/Ozone

Most ancillary chemicals (especially organics) have chlorine demands and will lower the free chlorine content of the pool or spa water.

In summary, chlorine (Liquid Lithium) can provide additional safe sanitation power when used together with other carefully selected sanitising systems. bondchemicals.com.au

Designing a desirable swimming pool

Marketing terms like “low maintenance”, “automate your pool” and “more time swimming, less time cleaning” have long been used in the industry to sell the dream that owning a pool — arguably one of life’s biggest investments — can be easy.

There’s no doubt that automation and advances in pool technology have transformed the way we maintain our pools. What used to require a trip to the plantroom can now often be achieved with a flick of a switch, or download of an app. These innovations enable homeowners to enjoy a resort-like swimming experience in the comfort of their own backyard without the level of maintenance and attention required just a few years ago.

Waterco, which started as a pool equipment manufacturer, is at the forefront of this movement. The technologically savvy company has evolved from creating durable plastic and fibreglass products to developing a suite of equipment, chemicals, minerals, and electronic components that make pool maintenance easier — and owning a pool more desirable.

“Ray Morgan research estimates 2.7 million Australians live in a house with a pool — equivalent to 13 per cent of the population — and our goal is to provide them with a suite of products and systems that simplify maintenance while creating a sough-after, sustainable lifestyle,”

explains Waterco Chief Operating Officer Bryan Goh. “From variable speed pumps and sanitisation equipment to mineral chlorinators and heat pumps, Waterco’s innovations, many of which have Climate Care Certification, create optimum swimming conditions with minimal water and energy consumption.”

MultiCyclone Dual Filtration System

Waterco’s dual filtration system, which features its MultiCyclone Centrifugal and Opal Cartridge filters, is engineered to reduce water consumption and maintenance. The innovative technology uses advanced centrifugal water filtration, meaning there are no moving parts and no filter media to clean or replace.

Furthermore, the installation of a MultiCyclone as a pre-filter to a cartridge filter can reduce cartridge maintenance to approximately once per swimming season, resulting in significant savings of water.

Electrochlor Plus Mineral Chlorinator

Electrochlor Plus Mineral Chlorinator makes your pool smarter by automatically

taking care of sanitisation, pH management, filtration, and auxiliary equipment so you don’t have to. This one device monitors and displays everything you need to know about your pool in real time.

It also automatically controls the pool’s pH balance through feedback from inline sensors. Maintaining correct pH levels (7.4-7.6 pH) is essential for many reasons: ensures you get the most out of your sanitising chemicals, protects pool surfaces and equipment from corrosion or scaling, and creates a more pleasant swimming experience.

Hydrostorm ECO-V 100 Variable Speed Pump

Equipped with the latest three-speed permanent magnet brushless DC motor, the 5-star energy-rated Hydrostorm ECO-V 100 Variable Speed Pump can be operated on its low (ECO) speed setting for a majority of its running time, leading to 80 per cent energy savings. This allows pool owners to take advantage of off-peak electrical tariff periods, without disrupting neighbours.

Oxiswim Hybrid Sanitisation System

Waterco’s Oxiswim is a revolutionary breakthrough in water treatment technology that combines the use of electrolysis with hydrogen peroxide to create freshwater conditions that feel luxurious to swim in.

It not only simplifies how a swimming pool is managed, but is also the first of its kind ever offered in the swimming pool sector that prevents biofilm from flourishing. While not generally recognised as a key factor when maintaining a pool, it does contribute to increased sanitiser demands and poor water quality.

Energy-efficient pool heating

Using energy-efficient pool heating solutions such as solar and heat pumps can provide a range of benefits, from cost savings and environmental friendliness to improved comfort and increased home value. Advancements in technology are capable of heating pool water far more economically than they did just a few years

ago, enabling users to enjoy their pool for more days throughout the year — making better use of their investment and the lifestyle benefits it brings.

Pool owner friendly in-floor cleaning system

Finally, don’t waste hours cleaning your new pool when Waterco’s Blue Square Q360 in-floor pool cleaner can do it for you. Virtually invisible, the Q360 system is fully automatic and can handle high debris levels so there is no need for an additional cleaner with hoses and cords to become tangled in.

“Whether installing a new pool or refurbishing an outdated one, a little bit of research in the beginning can go a long way in mitigating the ongoing maintenance and energy requirements of a swimming pool,” says Goh. “For example, installing an in-floor cleaner means you never have to vacuum the pool. There are so many options that make it possible to create a desirable pool.”

Redefining Swimming Pool Efficiency

Clear pools make for happy customers

Pool builders are always looking to provide their customers with the most enjoyable pool experience. Davey makes achieving that goal easier than ever with the Davey Lifeguard. As a complete pool and chemistry controller, it caters to the needs and wants of both pool builders and owners, according to Pool & Spa Category Manager, Sharon Tucker.

“Pool owners want builders to offer them more than just a pretty backyard centrepiece. They want a pool that is easily maintained and, more importantly, ready for swimming in any season.”

Nothing disappoints a pool owner like coming home after a long day at work, dreaming of a refreshing dip, only to fi nd the pool has turned green. However, the Davey Lifeguard, equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth capability and a range of clever sensors, can solve this problem.

The Lifeguard offers pool owners the option of a fully integrated app-based dashboard for remote monitoring. To ensure effortless pool balancing,

the Lifeguard includes a pH sensor and acid dosing, temperature and salt measurements, including ORP control. It even features a low-salt cut-out to protect the cell and a boost mode for additional chlorination during heavy bather load periods.

Additionally, the user-friendly app gives owners complete control over their pool system, allowing them to view and adjust schedules, modes and set points as required. It can also be controlled locally for customers who prefer not to connect to their Wi-Fi.

“Basically, the ChloroMatic Lifeguard is an easy way to manage pool maintenance,” Sharon explains. “Activating winter settings or preparing the pool for a summer party is quite simple. For day-to-day maintenance, the Lifeguard manages all the work.”

The ChloroMatic Lifeguard controller seamlessly integrates with Davey’s compact saltwater chlorinator, the Nipper. It is available as a set or can be used individually. The controller can be offered

as a standalone product for customers who already have a Nipper and wish to upgrade.

“An easy-to-install manifold houses the probes that enable the Lifeguard to automatically adjust the pH and chlorine to optimal levels. The Lifeguard will send alerts when the pool chemistry is out of range, prompting the customer to add more pool salt or check the level of the acid drum.”

The Lifeguard controller communicates with other Davey pool equipment, which can be easily connected through plugs on the back of the unit or through Wi-Fi connection. If there is a Davey heat pump connected to the system, the ChloroMatic Lifeguard unit maintains the pool temperature to a set point during the filtration cycle.

The ChloroMatic Lifeguard is suitable for pools up to 175,000 litres and can be used for salt, low salt or mineral pools.
